1 . It is always said that China is the homeland of tea, which has a very long history of tea.     1     However, unlike the western custom of using a convenient teabag, Chinese go to a lot of effort and time to prepare good tea for their guests, using tea leaves, natural spring water and a special kettle etc. to create worldwide famous tea culture. Tea is not just a drinkable beverage(饮料), but also a taste of Chinese traditional culture and inheritance(继承) of spirit. Unsurprisingly, there are various tea leaves in China.     2

Color

3     Good green tea leaves have jade green with fresh vitality. Twisted pan green tea shows glossy gray green. If some of the tea leaves have dry, dark and brown colors, it means it is old tea. If the leaves have mixed, large contrast colors, it is believed that the tea is mixed with yellow leaves, old leaves and even old tea, which does not live up to the standard of good tea.

Flavor(味道)

New tea is extremely clear and transparent with strong aroma(芳香), while old tea is characterized by brown color and weak fragrance. Take green tea and black tea for example, new green tea tastes a little bitter first, and then the fresh sweet taste begins to surface gradually, leaving a long and memorable after taste in mouth.     4

Place of origin

There is great gap of quality among various places of origin.     5     For example, it is well-known that Yunnan produces the best quality Pu'er tea and premium Oolong tea can be found within Fujian Province.

A.Every tea leaf has its own shape.
B.Some varieties are identified by tightness of the leaves.
C.It is always advised to select tea from its main producing areas.
D.While you’re selecting tea, you should pay attention to following aspects.
E.For foreigners in China, drinking tea may seem like simple refreshment(提神).
F.Generally, new tea leaves look fresh and pleasing, with light green or dark green.
G.On the contrary, if bitter taste takes the lead and fresh sweet taste subsides(减弱), it is black tea.

2 . On Sept. 21, 2020, scientists announced that Arctic sea ice has already lost two-thirds of its amount over the past four decades. It is part of a shocking trend in polar heating that is already seeing impacts across the globe.

Throughout the spring and summer, Arctic sea ice melted away faster than it usually does, causing the largest loss of Arctic sea ice cover since satellite records began in the 1970s. This year's minimum was reached on September 15, at 3.74 million m² compared with the previous low—4.17 million m²—set in 2007.

What's causing this loss of sea ice? The short answer is our heating climate. A recent study showed that the influence of heat has more than doubled over the past decade or so, which means the melting of nearly a meter thickness of sea ice each year.

The biggest effects of the loss of Arctic sea ice, of course, will be felt locally: from the more possible snowfall to more storms with stronger winds. These will also cause waves as well as rising temperatures. In fact, the increased temperatures transformed northern forests into tinderboxes ready to burn. That melt also means polar bears are losing critical habitat and Inuit hunters are losing ice to preserve their traditions and culture.

On a larger scale, the greatest impact may be the changes in the Arctic 's ability io function as a cooling system for the global ocean. A warmer Arctic will affect the temperature differences between the northern polar region and areas further south. That may, in turn, create stronger heat waves, droughts, floods and potential impacts on farming. And all of us will be more exposed to the disastrous effects of climate breakdown.

We need to hit the reset button right now on how we look after each other and Arctic sea ice to help our planet cope with the climate breakdown.

1. What do the figures in Paragraph 2 show us?
A.The ways of sea ice melting.B.The reasons for sea ice melting.
C.The big fall in the amount of sea ice.D.The great damage of sea ice melting.
2. What may happen due to the Arctic sea ice loss?
A.The reduction of snowfall.B.The global climate emergency.
C.The direct outbreak of forest fires.D.The disappearance of Inuit hunters.
3. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Stressing the importance of oceans.B.Warning people of the possible risks.
C.Putting forward some useful measures.D.Appealing to the public to protect Arctic sea ice.
4. Which can be the best title for the text?
A.The earth is facing a catastrophe.B.Climate breakdown is on the way.
C.Global heating sees Arctic sea ice loss.D.Arctic sea ice is important for mankind.

4 . Researchers have solved a long-standing mystery: why rocks on a flat lakebed in Death Valley National Park in California sometimes move. Racetrack Playa, the waterless lakebed, is named for the long trails (痕迹) that the rocks, some of which weigh hundreds of pounds, leave in the earth.

What was one of the world’s natural wonders now appears to be the perfect combination of rain, wind, ice and sun, scientists have found. Dr. Norris and James M. Norris, a cousin and co-author, actually saw the rocks moving in December when they went to check on the project.

For their study, they used special global positioning system tools, designed by James Norris, in rocks of various sizes brought from outside the park. They were not allowed to move or change anything of the existing playa (盐湖) stones.

No river flows into the playa, though rainwater sometimes fills part of it to a depth of a few inches. It’s when this happens, and the nights are below freezing and the days are fine, that the rocks may “sail”, the researchers said. On those occasions, the cold night air leaves a sheet (薄片) of ice only an eighth of an inch thick. Then the warmth of the sun causes the sheet to break up. As more ice melts (融化), some of these lesser sheets have room to move. Driven by light winds, the sheets push up against rocks. The wind drives the water, too, which also helps push the ice to some degree. The movement is slow, no more than about 15 feet a minute.

The movements are episodic — the conditions may be just right for a few minutes, and then the sun causes more ice to break and the movement stops. And once the water disappears, it may be years before the rocks move again, even if the playa floods again, because the right temperature and wind conditions may not occur.

1. What do we know about Racetrack Playa?
A.It has flat rocks in the earth.B.It is covered by rocks.
C.It has some valleys.D.It is usually dry.
2. What was the park’s attitude to using GPS in the lakebed’s stones?
A.It doubted the method.B.It was against doing so.
C.It felt it was worth a try.D.It thought it was useless.
3. Why do the stones “sail” according to the Norrises?
A.They are moved by big floods.
B.They move just because of strong winds.
C.They are mainly pushed by wind-driven ice.
D.They move very slowly on smooth ice sheets.
4. What does the underlined word “episodic” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Amazingly big.B.Extremely slow.
C.Happening sometimes.D.Going on without stopping.

5 . Barcelona’s famous Segrada Familia is finally set to get a building license to work on the still uncompleted church.

This UNESCO World Heritage basilica(长方形基督教堂),which is Barcelona’s most visited tourist attraction, began building in 1882 based on a design by architect Francisco Lozano. However, when he stepped down, architect Antoni Gaudi took over the design in 1883.The building won’t be finished until 2026—one hundred years after the architect was killed by a streetcar in the city. His body was buried in a room under the floor of the Sagrada Familia.

To get its paperwork rubber stamped, the church authorities have agreed to finally pay the government a 36 million fee for a building permit. Gaudi was told to get the paperwork processed, but the architect failed to do so—proceeding with construction. The money from the church’s permit will be used to upgrade transport links and beautify the area.

Gaudi played an active role in directing the construction of the Sagrada Familia until his death in 1926.He would often request that work be modified and adjusted until it was exactly what he had in mind. However, interpretation of the designs by present day architects is particularly challenging because of the nature of the existing designs.

Gaudi and his works have become symbols of Barcelona, the capital city of Catalonia, northeast Spain. The unfinished building is called a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and it is perhaps the most unique and mysterious building in the style ever constructed. The popularity of the site with tourists has helped fund the push to complete the church and pay for the paperwork.

1. What do we know about the Segrada Familia?

C.It will get a building permit in 2026.D.It began to be built 138 years ago.
2. What can we infer about Antoni Gaudi?
A.He wished to be buried in the church.B.He is remembered as a great architect.
C.He didn’t know a permit was necessary.D.He is to blame for the unfinished church.
3. What makes the Segrada Familia so popular?
A.Its unusual design style.B.Its two famous architects.
C.Its special building materials.D.Its illegal construction paperwork.
4. The church managed to pay for the license _________.
A.in the support of the governmentB.by reducing construction costs
C.with the aid of tourist incomeD.through donations from architects
