Yesterday, I went to an amazing Chinese art festival. There were different stands artists could demonstrate their skills and teach the visitors! It was definite an exciting experience. What caught our attention first was a 18th-century qinghua bowl. It vividly illustrated two dragons’ playing with a ball, which were typical of Chinese porcelain. Then I try some paper cutting, namely, making images out of papers. It was difficult, but a lot of fun! With the help of an artist, and I managed to make one in the shape of a fish. Another man seating next to him showed me how seal cutting worked. He made one for me with my name on Chinese — pretty awesome!

This afternoon, our handicraft club held a lantern making activity when a famous folk artist was inviting to teach us how to make lanterns by hand. He first introduced the history and origin of lanterns and the various materials formed them. After that, he showed us the basic step and skills of lantern making. Then came the time for me to have a try. With the guidance of the artist, all of us finished our works successful.

As we all know, world heritage sites are significant in history. However, at present, it’s reported that some world heritage sites are in the danger, which has aroused public attention. In the Chinese lunar calendar, Jingzhe, or the “awakening of the insects” is one of the 24 solar term, which were used to keeping track of agricultural cycles in ancient China.

I am from Wisconsin, and while we meet someone for the first time, we usually shake hand. Well, I had big surprise in Belgium. When I was introduced to my friend ’s brother, something was happened, which made me felt uncomfortable. I said “Hi” to him, extending his hand and he came up to me and kissed me on the cheek, not once, and three times, going from one cheek with the other! Last year I was the exchange student in the UK, and attended one of the Chinese culture course there. When I walked into the classroom, I was welcomed by curiously faces.
