Chinese brush calligraphy is one of the most important art form in China.
It origin is unknown, but local tales say it goes back over 4000 years to the time of Yellow Emperor, when characters carved on animal bones or tortoise shells. Then Qin Shi Huang united China and set regular rules for Chinese characters, making it easier for people to learn. Later cursive script (草书) appeared. It is written freely, but it’s not easy to be read.
Today it’s once again the subject in schools and an art form high appreciated across the world. Anyone can practise it and that is required is a simple set including a brush, ink, or paper. Practise this art consistently can develop personal character and is of great beneficial to health.

It was The Dragon Boat Festival on last Thursday. My parents and me visited my grandparents and spend the day with them. When we arrived, they were making Zongzi, what is kind of traditional food for the festival. I was such curious about it that wanted to have a try. So my grandma taught me how to wrap glutinous rices in bamboo leaves as well as tell the story of Qu Yuan to me. I was moved because Qu Yuan was true loyal to his state. The wrapping job was difficult, and I managed to make some.
Not only did I enjoy a great time with my family but also I learned a new skill. How exciting experience it was!

Let me share with you the meaningful day I had. I took Jack, a student from England, experience some Chinese cultures on last Sunday. In the morning, Jack and I visited a museum in the center of the city, which many cultural relics in the Ming Dynasty was on show. In the afternoon, we went to the cinema to watch a Chinese animated film naming Ne Zha, which deep moved us. In the evening, I teach Jack to make dumplings at my house. He learned very quickly that he mastered the skill in no time. Tasting the dumplings made by ourselves, they felt a great sense of achievement.

As the traditional Chinese folk art, the shadow play has been existed in China for centuries. It dates back to the Han Dynasty, where Emperor Liu Che lost his beloved wife Li. Depressed about his death, he even ignores the state affairs, worrying his officials. Then they made a puppet with the image of Li but performed before the Emperor. He was too pleased that he asked them to spread the art form.
Unfortunately, it is becoming more attractive due to the impact of modern media. Both Chinese artists and the government are making joint efforts conserve the ancient art form.

Ted, a British boy, along with his parents was invite to visit a Chinese calligraphy exhibition in London on last Saturday. They were exciting to have such a good chance to have a close look at the traditional Chinese culture. On the show they enjoyed various fine work with great admiration. To their joy, they saw some Chinese artists giving live performances with brush pens. Ted couldn’t help approach an elderly Chinese artist, which was writing attentively with a big brush pen. Ted watched with great interest but asked the artist to show her how to use the brush pen. The artist agreed and gave him some instruction patient. Then Ted couldn’t wait to have a try. He admit he was deeply attracted by the Chinese calligraphy.

On New Year’s Day I went to a stamp exhibition, what proved to be an unique experience. At 9:30, I arrived at the exhibition with my precious stamp album, eagerly and excited. To my delighted, there gathered crowds of stamp lovers. I joined them immediate and studied the stamps one by one. The artists’ delicate design appealed to me but I wanted to learn more. Then, some of us got together to share with our collections, chatting cheerfully about the stamps. We even told stories behind it like old friends. Time permits, I would have communicated more with the friends. On the whole, not only I appreciate beautiful stamps, but also I made new friends with the same interest. This was really a special celebration for the New Year.

There are many differences in eating habits among China and western countries. Firstly, Chinese people ate rice, noodles, vegetables and meat when western people prefer bread, milk, salad and steak. Secondly, westerners used to eating with a knife and a fork, but the Chinese eat with chopstick. Thirdly westerners usually eat quiet instead of making a loud noise during meals. They think it is very much impolite. However, this is common for the Chinese to talk with family members and friends while have dinner. Anyway, it is considering bad manners in both China and western countries to talk with our mouths full.

Before I started my winter holiday last year, I made a thoroughly plan. I make a list of what I should do during the holiday. Then I put them up on the wall in the room. Whenever I wanted to play with the mobile phone like I had done before, it reminded me to do what I supposed to do. As a result of, I spent a meaningful winter holiday. I finished my homeworks on time, read four novels or learned how to skate.

Last Thursday was the day where I paid a visit for the museum of tea together with some foreign students and showed them around there.
I led them to look through the relics about tea at the exhibition in beginning. They were curious about the stories behind those old mysteriously things. Then I showed them what to make tea. All of them learned carefully and one of them even took out his camera to make a record of every step. Had watched for some time, they tried making tea by themselves. At the end of the activity, we had a photo was taken together. Exhausted and delighted they expressed their gratefulness to me for my detailed explain.
The activity impressed me deeply because it not only helped me improve my skills of communication but also allow me to know more about our traditional culture that day. I enjoyed it very much.

With the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day come together, there will be a long holiday. Therefore, as for me, I am not going to travel anywhere, because I don’t want to join in the crowds. Instead, I just wanted to stay in my home and enjoy the family hour. I am so happily that my grandparents will come to stay with us for a few days. So my parents decide to having a family barbecue and invite more relative to spend the holiday with us. It is such a great reunion that everyone will have good time. What’s more, we will drive to our hometown, what is near to the city. There will be fewer people or we can appreciate the beauty of nature.
