2 . As a long-time resident(居民) of Beijing, I had always wanted to travel around and see more of China. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, I never found the right opportunity to go traveling. But, in May 2021, I finally found my big chance.
During the week-long Labor Day holiday, there happened to be few restrictions(限制) on travel, so I took this as my chance to go to Shanghai. What made this trip special was that not only was it my first time traveling by train, but also high-speed train. Many Americans are unused to taking public transportation, instead mainly using cars to get around.
For me, riding to Shanghai by train was especially nice since I could get a good look through the windows at the different kinds of beautiful scenery and towns as they rushed past me. In particular, I have always been a fan of the uniquely-shaped mountains of China, enjoying their beautiful curves(曲线) and slopes as they match the peaceful horizon. Another benefit of riding on trains was the spacious legroom which allowed me to relax more easily during my trip.
After arriving in Shanghai, I could not help but wonder why the US could not build a similarly useful and convenient railway system. Considering how cities are so spread out in the US, it is easy to see how the US would benefit from this kind of public investment(投资). This could lead to less reliance(依赖) on car ownership and have a positive impact on both the economy and environment.

3 . Some websites help make our travel easier! The following are some of them. You may find one very useful before you start your journey.
Home Exchange
You list your house on the site, find another house where you’d like to stay, and contact the house owner to see if he or she wants to exchange homes. This exchange system lets you live like a local in a comfortable house or apartment instead of a tiny and expensive hotel room. In addition, you needn’t pay any accommodation fees!
Tripadvisor
It is the biggest online community of travelers and also the first stop for vacation planners. Not only can you book flights, hotels, car rentals, and get tickets for scenery spots here, but you can also get reviews and tips from other travelers. The destination guides on Tripadvisor are often much better than the expensive guidebooks in a bookstore.
Yapta
Yapta stands for Your Amazing Personal Travel Assistant. Yapta reminds you when the price for a particular flight drops. It can do it even after you purchase your tickets, giving you a chance to get a refund (退款) of the difference from the airline. If you prefer, Yapta will bargain (讨价还价) with the airline on your behalf for a $15 fee.

4 . I was born in Venice, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, and studied designing at university here. Though I have also spent time away, I have always come back because it’s my home.
In Venice, there are no roads, only canals, so you have to get around on foot or by boat. I live on a canal in the Rialto area in a house that was built in 1588 for the Muti family, who were businessmen in the silk trade. In the mid-eighteenth century, it was home to the Vezzi family, who made things like plates and bowls in fine china and became rich by sending these around the world. These businessmen’s houses in Venice are like palaces. Their owners had to have space to show off their goods, but the building also had to be an office, a factory, a store and a home. My house came into our family in 1919, when it was bought by my grandfather. He died before I was born but he was the director of a museum where I often do research on old documents. On some of these, I’ve seen notes in his handwriting, so, in a way, I met him through these documents.
Sadly, the population of Venice has dropped from 120,000 in the 1950s to about 60,000 now. This doesn’t include the thousands of tourists who come to visit. I welcome the tourists but unless something is done to stop everyday shops like bakeries from disappearing, the city will die. I want people who love the city to come here to live and work and give Venice back a life that is not just about tourism.

But there are serious problems in big cities too. The cost of living is high, and there are too many people in some of big cities. Every year many people move to the cities because there are some chances to find jobs, to study at good schools, and to receive good medical care.

6 . Many people travel to enrich and enjoy themselves. As a Persian writer said:“Travel brings power and love back into your life.” However, their travel methods may be different each year.
Traveling alone
Traditionally, travel seems to be a group activity to have fun together and avoid loneliness. But traveling alone has become popular, especially among young people.
Traveling on your own means that you are the boss of everything, choosing wherever you want to go, whatever you eat and whenever you go out. For some people, it also offers a chance to find themselves a more confident person that is ready to deal with anything.
Virtual(虚拟的)reality
World travel can be expensive. But virtual reality, or VR is giving more possibilities to travel for little cost. With ever-improving headsets(头戴式视读器), smartphones and Wi-Fi connections, people can have a 360-degree experience of museums, theme parks and historical places.
There are always some “must-see” places anywhere you travel. But traveling in such places always brings problems like overcrowding and noise. In order to have a better travel experience, many tend to visit less famous places. With less transportation and fewer things to do, hitting up a little town gets people to slow down and notice the little things.
