文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了Ann Arbor的游玩攻略。

1 . Ann Arbor Travel Guide

When you think of Ann Arbor, you likely think of the University of Michigan. In some ways, the two are the same. But Ann Arbor has an identity of its own. That is the unique festivals like Apple Daze in the fall and FestiFools in the spring. And the town is known as the “City of Trees”: visitors can paddle (划船) and hike their way down the lush (茂密的) Huron River Water Trail or appreciate flowers at a local garden in early summer.

Best months to visit

The best time to visit Ann Arbor is between May and September, when temperatures rest comfortably and lots of activities are held there. For example, June is a perfect time to go outside and experience Ann Arbor’s outdoor spaces, like the Huron River and Mathai Botanical Gardens. If a fall or winter trip amuses you, you will still find plenty to do. College football season runs from September to November, so that’s a great time to visit if you’d like to catch a game at Michigan Stadium. In the colder months, you can spend time in Ann Arbor’s many indoor museums or enjoying special holiday events, like Kindle Fest.

Tips for saving money

Eat where the locals do. Many hole-in-the-wall restaurants are frequented by college students and therefore keep their prices reasonable to attract the public.

Walk, walk, and walk. Downtown Ann Arbor is a very walkable area. In fact, driving and parking a car is often annoying. By getting around on your feet, you will not only get a better feel for the town, but save money that would have otherwise been spent on a rental car or taxi rides.

1. What is the special feature of Ann Arbor?
A.Its good location.B.Its special festivals.
C.Its famous restaurants.D.Its educational environment.
2. What may be the best time to visit Ann Arbor if you are a football fan?
A.Early spring.B.Late winter.C.September.D.June.
3. What’s the author’s advice on saving money when visiting Ann Arbor?
A.Asking for discounts while buying tickets.
B.Having meals in the college dining hall.
C.Renting a car to visit the city.
D.Traveling around on foot.

7 . Amazing Train Journeys

The Beijing to Lhasa Express, China

Departs daily; Distance—2,330 miles; Duration—40 hours

Linking the royal wonders of Beijing with the dreamlike palaces of Lhasa, the Z21 train travels from the modernity of urban China to a once-remote land. Running westward, the train climbs nearly 16,400 ft (5,000 m) on its journey to the roof of the world: the Tibetan Plateau.

London to Fort William on the Caledonian Sleeper, UK

Departs daily; Distance—509 miles; Duration—13 hours 30 minutes

This overnight train journey is filled with the romance of rail travel. It’s just a pity that the whole experience—from dining-car chatting and light beer, to being carried into a la-la land by the rhythm of the rails and waking to bedside views of towering peaks—feels like it’s over in a flash. Though it may be short, the Caledonian is surely Britain’s best train ride.

Tazara Railway, Tanzania and Zambia

Departs twice a week; Distance—1,160 miles; Duration—46 hours

Few trains offer the chance of spotting big game from your seat, but the Tazara Railway does exactly that. Perurails Lake Titicaca Railway, Peru

Departs twice a week; Distance—241 miles; Duration—10 hours

Traveling across the Altiplano, from the shores of Lake Titicaca to the beating heart of the Inca capital, the railway from Puno to Cuzco cuts a picturesque path through the snow-dusted peaks and fantastic valleys of the Andes. 8 . Would you like to know something that our ancestors knew? Here is a chance to take a trip back in time to the following places and discover it.

Great Orme Copper Mines, Wales

The discovery of the copper mines changed much of what we knew about our Bronze Age ancestors. It was believed that metalworking had come to England with the Romans, but this Welsh discovery proved that the British were already working metals 4,000 years ago. The mines are made up of five miles of passageways. Some are so small that historians think they were dug by children as young as five years old.

Jurassic Coast, Dorset

Spreading an impressive 95 miles between Exmouth and Dorset, the Jurassic coast is frequently described as a “walk through time”. It’s perfect for looking for fossils after a storm. Several beach towns along the way make for a much-needed short break. The clean water is perfect for swimming and the Clock Tower Café which is typical of the countryside has beautiful views and delicious cakes.

Cheddar Gorge, Somerset

There’s something other-worldly about this limestone gorge, where caves carved out by an underground river were once used by our ancient ancestors for maturing cheese and other foods. Visitors to the Gorge can also explore a cave where Britain's oldest human skeleton, the 9,000-year-old Cheddar Man, was first discovered back in 1903.

Compton Bay, Isle of Wight

Compton Bay hasn't always been a wonderful place. Some 130 million years ago it was occupied by dinosaurs both great and small. Take a walk along Compton Bay's sandy beach, and you may have a chance to find new fossil dinosaur footprints, preserved in rock.
