A Summer in Shanghai

Going to Shanghai for a summer is truly a remarkable experience. Way back    1    the summer started；I was thinking what I should do for the summer. It turned out that joining a summer program was a wise decision which brought me a    2    （mean）summer. As a junior    3    （major）in Electric Engineering, I chose to take a Thermodynamics course at a university in Shanghai in the summer of 2016. I had never been to Shanghai before and    4    seemed to me that it was worth a visit. As I could speak a little Mandarin，there would be no difficulty    5    （fit）into Shanghai’s life. Without much    6    （hesitate）, I chose Shanghai as a start of my adventurous journey. There could only be one word    7    （describe）my first impression of Shanghai: Impressive. When I first set foot in the Shanghai airport, I was impressed by how modernized it was. I took the magnetic train（磁悬浮列车）,    8    was so fast and speedy that I felt as if I was riding on a roller coaster. It was    9    （actual）430km per hour！As I approached the heart of Shanghai, I    10    （astonish）by all the high-rise buildings. The beautiful night view of the Bund（外滩）certainly took my breath away.

During my recent travels in China, I went from the top to the bottom of the country. I was astonished at     1     different the weather was in different cities.

The weather was     2     (freeze) cold in Harbin, but felt much warmer in Shanghai, Guilin, Qingdao and Yangshuo. Each place has a different feel and allows you     3     (experience) different things.

In Qingdao, we ate seafood, drank beer and even swam in the sea. In Harbin, we wore our warmest jackets and saw the     4     (amaze) ice and snow sculptures (雕塑).

Shanghai reminded me     5     a city in Europe or America. There are lots of Western cafes.

Guilin was a good place to be touring around during Spring Festival. Fireworks     6     (fill) the sky and the streets were busy with happy people. I visited several old buildings and walked around a beautiful lake.

But Yangshuo     7     (be) my favorite place so far. I could not stop taking     8     (photo) of the beautiful mountains and the Lijiang River. I rode a bicycle along the Yulong River in the warm sun. I ate strawberries and drank tea that came from farms in the mountains.

Now, I am back in Beijing. I am looking forward to     9     next trip. I think I     10     (go) to another warm place!.

Through travelling you can enjoy beautiful views and     1     ( broad ) your horizons. In summer, you’d better get on a cruise in the city of Chongqing which will take you to the Three Gorges, for those Jiangyou ships are usually too     2     ( crowd ). Near Yunyang, at the steep edge of the hills     3     ( stand ) the famous Zhang Fei Temple     4     ( surround ) by trees. Because smoking     5     ( forbid ) in the cabins, you have to go to the deck to smoke,     6     you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. You can see some fishermen     7     the distance. First, you will go through the Qutang Gorge, which narrows to 350 feet. Then you will sail through Wu Gorge and Xiling Gorge. However,     8     impresses you most may be the Daning River in WuShang. There is immense     9     ( mountain ) land on both banks of Yangtze River with only small areas of flat     10     ( plain ).

My mother and my brother were taking a trip to Washington, D.C. They came back with the most       1     (amaze) story I have ever heard!

When they passed by New York, their train failed to work       2     (proper), the conductors asked everyone to move forward to another train. When everyone     3     (seat), my mother realized she didn’t have her handbag, in     4     was her money, tickets, credit card and license. She rushed to a conductor. “Excuse me, I left my bag on the other train. Can you stop the train?” The conductor replied, “ Oh, I’m sorry,     5     we cannot let you off.” My mom quickly picked up her cellphone,       6     only thing she had, and started calling someone     7     help but in vain.

Luckily, when the train finally stopped in Delaware, a man left the train and handed my mom $ 112. My mother thanked him and felt grateful for his     8    (kind). She got the man’s address and promised     9     (find) a way to pay him back. My mother and my brother finally arrived in Washington, D.C., but did not get to do all the things as     10    (plan). They got to take a few bike rides, buy souvenirs, and more. They made the best of the worst vacation!

I have never had a     1     (frequently) trip to Sichuan before , but there was a time     2     it kept me spellbound . Now this is the first time that I     3     (be) here . We were very     4     (excite) . The guide （导游）asked us     5     we like hotpot and of course we said yes . He suggested that we     6     (taste) it because Sichuan is famous     7     it . He also said that it was not difficult     8     (find) some     9     (place) of interest here . I took some pictures of pandas and I had a good time . As far as I     10     (concern) , I will never forget the trip .

8 . Zhangjiajie,    1     (locate) in the northwest of Hunan province, is famous for its beautiful and unique scenery. It consists     2     the district of Yongding and Wulingyuan, and counties of Cili and Sangzhi. Also within it is Wulingyuan Scenic Area which     3     (name) a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Senior experts from UNESCO were amazed at its unique natural scenery, near perfect biology system, and creative     4     (combine) of nature and humanism.

It has     5     area of 9653 square kilometers, and an average rainfall of 1200 - 1600 mm. In Zhangjiajie area, Huanglongdong and Longwangdong are caves known for many natural rock formations and     6     (they) underground cataracts (急流). Each year, Zhangjiajie hosts the International Country Music Week Festival,    7     (feature) international acts such as American country music group Lucy Angel.

The city     8     (build) 12 state-level tourist areas by now, of     9     one is 5A class scenic spot and four sites are 4A level. It attracts visitors from all over China and some Asian countries, and is     10     (increasing) popular among other international tourists.

10 . Each year, thousands of people come to Shaanxi, China, to visit the Terracotta Army, which shows the life of Qin Shi Huang,    1    country' s first emperor.

As one of the most famous tourist sights in the world, the Terracotta Army is a form of funerary (葬礼的) art    2    (bury) with the First Emperor in 210 to 209 BC. It was designed    3    (protect) the emperor in his afterlife.

Since their     4     (discover), experts have questioned whether the life-size models of soldiers    5    (base) on real warriors (勇士) or whether they came off a production line.

In October a BBC documentary ( 纪录片) the Greatest Tomb on Earth: Secrets of Ancient China, suggested the inspiration for the Terracotta Warriors may have come    6    Ancient Greece, about    7    Archaeologist Li Xiuzhen said, “We now have evidence that close contact did exist between the First Emperor's China and the West.”

On the 41st International Museum Day, it was    8    (official) announced that new technology has just made    9    possible for visitors to be guided. Thanks to an interactive(交互式) 360-degree video, visitors can choose either to view the    10    (figure) close-up or from a distance.
