For the past 10 years I     1     (be) crazy about cycling on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (高原). Every summer vacation, I spend a month     2     (bike) across the plateau.

In 2014, I set out     3     a cycle route with five other people. Our 2,000-kilometer route started in the east, and     4     (end) in the west.

The Plateau has     5     (drama) landscapes. Travelers can see the snowy mountains, clean blue lakes, lots of animals during the day, and clear, starry skies at night.

The high altitude (海拔) and low level of oxygen make cycling     6     (extreme) challenging. With a sharp temperature difference between day and night, and unexpected rain,     7     is easy for cyclists to lose body heat.

The route consists of dirt, even broken stones, and paths, which have been formed over time by countless passing     8     (vehicle). One night, we had to camp near a forest     9     there were possible animal attacks, especially from wolves. We found a house in a     10     (lock) yard, but no one answered our calls from the gate. It was the time of the seasonal migration, so maybe the people had moved to another place for better water and grass.

Sunshine, beaches and coconuts... these may appear in our minds    1    we discuss Hainan province. But this land is more than    2    place on the bucket list of travellers and foodies(美食家). It’s also a key area for ecosystems.

In April, Chinese President Xi Jinping inspected(视察)a section of Hainan Tropical(热带的)Rainforest National Park in Wuzhishan city,    3    (say)that “Hainan is a province of ecological resources and the work of building Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park    4    (be)top priority”.

Covering a total area of 4, 269 square kilometres, Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park has the most concentrated and well-preserved tropical rainforests in China.    5    (know)as “nature’s regulator”, rainforests can not only provide locals    6    rich soil and a constant supply of water, but also reduce the effects of climate change by taking in carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. The park is famous for    7    (it)rich biodiversity.

Though only occupying(占有)0.045 per cent of the country’s area, Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park is home to    8    (thousand)of special plants and animals.    9    (maintain)the ecosystem, the Hainan provincial government has promoted the construction of the park.    10    (lucky), their efforts paid off.

It’s almost time for me to say goodbye to Australia. I’ve enjoyed my time here very much. After being here for a while, my     1     (big) impression is the complicated mix of peoples and cultures     2     make up the nation. Although the main cultural influence since 1788     3     (be) Western culture, minority cultures have also played     4     part in shaping the unique Australian culture, with many of the new cultural influences     5     (contribute) by immigrants. It is said that now nearly half of all Australian citizens were either born overseas or have parents who were born overseas.

China Post issued a set of stamps showing the paintings of famous structures in the Forbidden City on Saturday     1     (celebrate) the 600th birthday of the ancient palace.

The set includes four stamps, each     2     (present) a single construction (建筑物). The total face value of the set     3     (be) 11.4 yuan.

The stamps are designed like paintings, and in the four paintings, the Forbidden City’s sceneries (风景) are presented in different seasons. At     4     same time, to present the stamps with different charms (魅力) of the ancient buildings, a special set with digital information was issued. By taking a photo of the stamps with a special WeChat program or scanning a QR code (二维码) alongside the stamps, more content about the Forbidden City could     5     (provide).

Construction of the Forbidden City was started in 1406, and the whole project was completed in 1420, during the Ming Dynasty. It is the     6     (large) and most complete wooden-structure palace in the world.

Having served as the imperial palace for the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Forbidden City was changed into a museum and has been open     7     the public since 1925. So, it is also     8     (know) as the Palace Museum, which not only houses millions of cultural relics,     9     is itself also a living archive (档案馆) of imperial history.

This year also marks the 95th year of the Palace Museum’s     10     (establish). Many celebrations have been promoted, with the stamps being part of them.

On my first Saturday in South Korea, I decided to climb Mount Bukhansan. I enjoy hiking, and everyone told me about Bukhansan National Park. They mentioned its beautiful forests, clean air,     1    historic temples. They didn't tell me about the huge     2     (crowd) that go there every weekend!

After following the crowd for an hour, I asked a group of hikers     3    far the summit was. The leader of the group Mr Choi saw I was alone and introduced me to his friends. We hiked together for an hour until the group decided     4     (stop) for lunch. I tried to get a sandwich from my backpack, but one of Mr Choi's friends said, “No, no, no. You will eat with us.” After they shared their meal     5    me, the group decided they     6     (walk) enough. They began walking back down the mountain.

I continued climbing, and finally arrived at the summit. A man     7     (stand) on the mountaintop introduced     8     (he) as Mr Kim. Together we shared a bottle of makgeolli, a     9     (tradition) Korean drink, and enjoyed the view. “In Korea,” he said, “we say that the people you meet on the mountain are     10    best people.” I thought about my day on Bukhansan, and I knew he was right.

The 2021 (22nd) Hainan Island Carnival kicked off in Haikou, capital city of Hainan province, on Dec 10, 2021.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will continue to support Hainan in     1    (deepen) reform and opening up, support Hainan’s aim to become an international tourism consumption center, and provide     2    (assistant) for the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port.

The festival     3    (joint) organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the People’s Government of Hainan province     4    (become) a vital platform in the past 20 years for Hainan to increase cooperation and exchanges in the fields of tourism, culture and sports     5     the world. This session of Hainan Island Carnival digs deep into all the possible “joyful elements” and fully displays the rich and unique tourism and     6    (culture) resources of Hainan so as to engage both tourists and residents to actively participate and interact in building Hainan Island into     7     joyful destination for visitors around the world.

Apart from the opening ceremony, a series of exciting activities     8    (schedule) to be held during the festival. In terms of tourism, resources of fine scenic spots, rural tourism, and shopping tourism are fully integrated. Seven thematic tourism routes will be launched     9    (attract) more visitors to travel to Hainan,     10     will stimulate tourism consumption and facilitate the construction of an international tourism consumption center.
