I had a great time during my last camping trip. Actual, I didn’t plan to go but some friends ring me at the last minute and invited me. Mykonos, Greece
Mykonos is usually very crowded with visitors in July and August, but the Greek meltemi winds can be a real problem in high summer. Later in the season, they are much calmer and you can spend your time lying on the beach without being angry with the sand. The best address is the Hotel Belvedere, but the cheapest hotel is the Grace Mykonos, which is good value in September, but even better a month later.
Aeolian Islands, Italy
Silily’s beautiful seven islands often attract Oscar-winners like Robert De Niro and Russell Crowe. September is the time to visit the Aeolian Islands, as the tourists have gone. Don’t miss Panarea, where the only way of getting around is on foot, and make sure you include the greenest island, Salina.
St Tropez, France
St Tropez in high season is full, but come the end of August, it soon returns to being the French Provencal fishing town of the 1960s. You can walk through its streets in peace and drop into its popular stores without the crowds. It’s also much easier to get a meal at places such as Alain Ducasse’s Spoon, or to drop into bars like Nikki Beach for a drink. The best places to stay are Hotel La Ponche or Le Beauvallon, a 10-minute boat ride across the bay in St Maxime.

4 . During Amsterdam’s chaotic rush hour, nine -year-old Lotta Crok cycles to a very busy junction. “Look,” she says. “There’s traffic coming from everywhere. Four trams from four different directions. For a child on a bike, that’s really confusing!”
Lotta is the first junior cycle mayor in the world and her working area is the Dutch capital. You would think this challenge would be superfluous in a city known as the bicycle capital of the world. The number of bicycles in Amsterdam is estimated at 800,000 — more than the city’s 750,000 inhabitants. According to an estimate made 5 years ago, 490,000 bicyclists take to streets daily.
But children who cycle in Amsterdam face challenges. Lotta says, “The three biggest problems for us are cars, cycling tourists and scooters (小型摩托). The cars take up too much space, the tourists are always swinging side to side and stop when you least expect it, and the scooters simply run you over.”
Lotta became junior cycle mayor in June last year when she won a contest in which school children were asked to come up with plans to make cycling safer and more fun. Her idea was to add children’s bikes to the popular bike share programme.
Since Lotta was appointed junior cycle mayor, she has been busy, giving interviews, opening cycling contests in the city and being a jury (评审员) member during the Amsterdam Light Parade, an event in which Amsterdammers decorate their bikes with lights.
She is now planning a meeting with the city’s mayor to discuss ideas that children have come up with: “One of our proposals is a bicycle park where children can learn how to cycle. Right now, most of us learn it in the street, which can be quite busy. Another idea is to create an app for tourists to teach them the rules of cycling, because most of them really don’t know.”
Following the success of the Amsterdam scheme, cycle mayors around the world are now planning to appoint junior colleagues. “They see it works really well,” Boerma, the senior mayor, says. “I talk to the parents. Lotta talks to the children. And if you look at the city through the eyes of a child, you will also make it accessible for others. A city that’s good for an eight-year-old is also good for an 88-year-old.”

One night, I was in a workshop with my colleagues. One of them was much old than us, and had just recovered from an illness. He didn’t like Asian food, so he stayed in the hotel while a rest of us went out for dinner. When he came back, I told him which I wanted to take him out wherever he wanted to eat. 10 . It'll be Easter soon, and time to think of how to spend a few days' holiday. Let's look at three of the best.
Budapest
Budapest is the capital of Hungary. It's actually made up of the twin cities of Buda and Pest, which are separated by the mighty River Danube. The city is famous for its cafes. There are several good ones to choose from, but you must try either Gerbeaud, or the famous New York Cafe. Order a “somloi galuska", a very rich chocolate dessert. Finally, you can' t leave the city without visiting one of its amazing Turkish baths. Some of them date back to the 16th century.
Bucharest
A fourteen hours train ride east will take you through Transylvania to Bucharest, capital of Romania. Once there, you should visit Mamie's Inn, which is a 19th century caravanserai (an inn built around a large courtyard, which is big enough for caravans). It's located in the Lipscani district (the heart of the city), and it's also a great place to have lunch and a drink.
Sofia
From Bucharest it's only 300 kilometres to Sofia, the Bulgarian capital. The city sits below the massive Vitosha Mountain. Sofia is an ancient place, and parts of the city walls date back to the 7th century BC and can still be seen. It' s also a holy city, and two of its major tourist attractions are churches. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is well worth a visit, but you should find time for the Boyana Church, a small medieval Bulgarian Orthodox chapel. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has incredible wall paintings dating back to 1259.
