文章大意:本文是应用文。文章主要介绍旧金山历史爱好者们的最佳博物馆。

1 . The Best museums in San Francisco for History Buffs

The Cable Car Museum

This museum displays hundreds of artifacts and interactive activities related to San Francisco’s cable cars. Visitors can explore how cable cars were constructed, operated, and later restored during the 1970s, or a behind-the-scenes tour to look at how electricity is generated to power the cable cars. Admission is free and guided tours are available throughout the week, though the museum is closed every Monday.

Fee: Free, but donations accepted.

Address: 1201 Mason St.

Hours: 10 AM-4 PM, closed Monday.

Alcatraz Island

You’ve probably heard of Alcatraz, the 22-acre island about one mile off the coast of San Francisco. It’s famous for serving as a prison for criminals. Today, it’s one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, partially because of the fascinating museums on the island.

After taking a self-guided tour of the prison, stick around to explore the many museums and exhibits in the island’s various buildings. Exhibits range from collections of prisoner’s hand-made items and historical items to exhibitions on the history of crime in America to exhibits on the island’s Native American occupation of the 1970s.

Fee: Accessible only via cruises; prices start at $ 28 (for kids).

Address: Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing.

Hours: Changes seasonally, open daily.

Musée Mecanique

This small-but-packed museum is the best in SF for going back in time as the collection has more than 300 items. The museum started as one person’s personal collection back in the 1930s, but has since ballooned into the impressive spread visitors can see today.

Admission to the Musée Mecanique is totally free, but because it sits near Pier 45, it’s likely that you’ll end up spending some money in the area, anyway - the popcorn carts on the pier are hard to resist.

Fee: Free, but donations accepted.

Address: Taylor Street at Pier 45.

Hours: Daily, 10 AM-8 PM.

Last summer, I went to Djerba, Tunisia. It was true one of the most attractive destination I had ever visited. I must admit that I have never seen such a beautiful coastline before. I spent most of my days walking on the beach but enjoying the sun and the peaceful sound of the waves. On my four day there, I took a tour and visited some local attractions, included the El Ghriba Synagogue. And that was unforgettable experience. Overall, I felt so lucky to be there because of everything was good than I could ever imagine. I’m looking forward to explore more of this beautiful country next time.

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一种新的旅行方式——慢旅行,这种旅行方式不会那么累,而且还能更好地感受当地的文化。

8 . In the rush of day-to-day life, we don’t always have the time to slow down and move at our own speed. Even on vacation, we always try to visit, do and taste as many things as possible in a new place or many places.

“I’ve heard countless times how tired people are when they come back from their vacation and feel like they ‘need a vacation from their vacation,’ and that’s because many times we pack so much into a very short time,” said travel blogger Esther Susag. “We want to see everything, do everything, and not waste a minute.

There is, however, another method that many experienced travelers suggest: slow travel. But what exactly is slow travel, and how do you take full advantage of this kind of trip? Below ,travel experts break it down.

As the name suggests, slow travel generally needs travelers to slow down and enjoy each moment, rather than rushing to check off the list items. “Slow travel may mean different things to different travelers, but I define (定义) it as staying in one place for longer and going deeper into the local culture,” said Paul Jacobs, general manager and vice president of Kayak North America. “It’s taking the time to make real connections with locals instead of packing a schedule full of tours.”

For travel expert and author La Carmina, slow travel allows people to stop and smell the roses-quite directly. “It’s about being fully present in the moment and experiencing the sights, sounds and sensations (感觉) around you completely “letting the experience develop at its own speed and without expectations,” she said. “To me, slow travel doesn’t have a strict definition or certain things to do, but rather focuses on the feeling of being a visitor to a place.”

Slow travel is becoming more and more popular now, because it can do good to us in many ways.

1. Why are people tired when they return from their vacation?
A.They have no place to rest.
B.They are on a busy schedule when traveling.
C.They travel to some places far away.

2. What does La Carmina think of slow travel?
A.It can let travelers experience the place deeply.
B.It can make travelers save a lot of money.
C.It can allow travelers to explore more places.
D.It can save travelers much more time.
3. What might the author continue talking about?
A.Other ways of travel.
B.The definition of slow travel.
C.The proper places for slow travel.
D.The advantages of slow travel.
4. In which part of a newspaper can you probably read the text?

文章大意:这是一篇应用文。文章主要说明了游览伦敦的一些建议。

10 . London, with countless famous sites and all manner of food, drink, shopping, history, and culture, is definitely a wonderful city to visit.

Time Zone

Greenwich Mean Time during the winter, British Summer Time during the rest of the year (starting at Daylight Saving Time).

Best Time to Go

The best time to visit London overall is in spring, when the temperatures have warmed up, the sun has started to shine and London’s gardens and parks are looking their best. However, the reality is that the best time to travel to London depends a lot on what you’re looking for. If you’re all about taking a look inside Queen Liz’s palace, you’d better make it in summer, while winter is beautiful and festive for those looking to get their fill of Christmas markets and traditional cheer.

Things to Know

Londoners, and English people in general, have a much different manner of interacting with one another than Americans do while an American might think nothing of smiling at a stranger they pass on the sidewalk or asking about work in the first few minutes of a conversation, Londoners might consider it impolite or strange. Don’t mistake this for unfriendliness ;it’s just a cultural difference. Instead, talk about things like movies, TV shows, books, your travels, and the like, instead of work or family.

How to Get Around

Getting around London is unbelievably easy thanks to the well-maintained and extensive Underground. The Underground, unlike American transportation systems which often pay per ride or pay per length of trip, are paid in zones. Fare also varies based on time of day and the method you use to pay. It’s worth getting an Oyster card to make your life that much simpler.

1. Where is this text most probably taken from?
A.A survey.B.A travel journal.C.A research paper.D.A guidebook.
2. When is the best time to visit London for people who enjoy a lively atmosphere?
A.Spring.B.Summer.C.Autumn.D.Winter.
3. Which of the following is a suitable topic for starting a conversation with Londoners?
A.Daily entertainments.B.Future plans.
C.Personal relationships.D.Annual incomes.
