From this year’s trip through Southeast Asia, last year’s Central America adventure and traveling within Canada, travel has been a(n)     1     (wonder) part of my life. Whenever a friend or family member comes back from a trip, they always can’t wait to tell you about the highlights (最好的部分)! Research from San Francisco State University has shown that people feel     4     (comfortable) when they spend money on experiences than on other things and they feel the money is better spent.

Experiences are something I truly value. Your     5     (happy) increases with experiences, but the impact of people you meet along the way also matters. 文章大意:本文是说明文。文章介绍了如何计划与好友一起的旅行。

4 . The best trips with friends are the ones that are well-planned. Here are a few tips on planning an incredible trip with friends and making memories that last.

1     Someone might be looking to rest and relax on a beach, while another person might be looking to enjoy as much nightlife as possible. Figure out what everyone wants and find out what everyone’s top three destinations are, and research places that have all of your common interests.

Nothing puts a damper on (使扫兴) vacation planning with friends than arguments over money.    2     Meeting at a friend’s house or talking over dinner can reduce what can sometimes be an awkward discussion by group texts or emails.    3     When the major (主要的) costs are out of the way, don’t forget about smaller joint (共同的) expenses like taxis and tips.

It’s fun to get lost in the excitement of booking things and crossing off your checklist of to-dos.    4     It’s important to provide a window of opportunity for everyone to comfortably share their opinions and concerns about trip decisions.

Despite all the late-night planning and lunchtime meetings, some situations will be totally out of your hands.    5     Remind everyone not to focus narrowly on a few dollars, and whatever you do, don’t ever let arguments get out of control.

A.Pick the right destination.
B.Book a cheap flight or hotel.
C.It’s important to choose the right group of people.
D.You need to discuss big costs like flights and hotels at first.

文章大意:本文是记叙文。作者在悉尼旅游时用相机记录了旅途风景,尤其是落日美景。

5 . During our four days in Sydney, the first thing on my wish list was to record the symbols of this city, the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, at sunset (日落). Thankfully, my family was very patient with me, as we watched the sunset over and over again while I recorded the exciting moments on my camera.

We first arrived at the Queen Victoria Building, or QVB, which has been called one of the most beautiful places to go shopping. From the QVB we walked down to the Circular Quay, our first look at the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Then the next day, we went to the Taronga Zoo, located across the harbour (港口) from the Circular Quay. There are many Australian animals as well as lions, tigers, and Asian elephants. The best part of the zoo is the ferry (渡船) ride to get there and the view along the way.

For one of the best sunset views, we paid a visit to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair, a famous viewpoint of the Sydney Harbour. I felt like a true photographer, making my very patient and understanding family wait in the cold for almost two hours while I filled my memory card with photos of the wonderful sunset.

Our time had to come to an end. We spent our last night at the Sydney Opera House café, playing cards, drinking wine, and watching the sunset.

If you would like to know where not to stay in Sydney, then do not go to the Central Railway Hotel. This hotel, one of the few that were cheap enough to fit into our budget, was loud, dirty, and crowded. We were always checking the windows, since so much noise was coming in from the streets. The only good thing was its location, being a five-minute walk from Central Station, a hub (中心) of Sydney.

1. What did the author want to do most in Sydney?
A.Go shopping with his family.B.Visit the Sydney Opera House.
C.Watch unique animals in Australia.D.Photograph famous structures at sunset.
2. What did the author think of his trip to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair?
A.It was record-breaking.B.It was a waste of time.
C.It was worthwhile.D.It was very painful.
3. What made the author choose the Central Railway Hotel to stay?
A.Its good location.B.Its quietness.C.Its low price.D.Its cleanness.
4. Which was the author’s travel route in Sydney?
A.The QVB → the Sydney Opera House → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair.
B.The QVB → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair → the Sydney Opera House.
C.The Harbour Bridge → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair → the QVB.
D.The Circular Quay → the QVB → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者追随鲸鱼的一次旅行。

6 . The whale, as big as a locomotive(火车头) jumped out of the water, spinning(旋转) as though for joy, before jumping back under the waves. We watched the scene(场景) silently in astonishment, never having been so close to such a huge, fast-moving creature. It seemed almost possible to count the small shellfish on the whale’s skin.

In early December, gray whales, blue whales, and others had just started heading around the tip of Baja California, Mexico, moving as a community from the Pacific Ocean to the Sea of Cortez. It’s in that protected waterway that pregnant whales give birth to their babies. Other whale babies, born the year before, could be seen sailing behind. All whale babies get two trips like this with their mom before they’re ready to start having babies of their own and making the journey on their own.

We’re in one of several small powerboats, sent out by Scuba Caribe, which carries on such tours in Cabo San Lucas. The whales seemed to be, at times, less than 100 feet from our boat when they rushed out of the water. At other times, they would get much closer and swim beside the boat.

“What if one lands on us?” a woman next to me wondered. Fernando Del Toro, the Destination Manager of Scuba Caribe said, “We haven’t had any incident (事件) of whales jumping over our boats as we always keep our distance. We’re sure they themselves are probably careful not to crash into boats. Such an accident would probably also cause them much harm.”

“Everyone can enjoy this magical trip,” said Del Toro. “However, we do not recommend(推荐) it for kids under 5 years old,” he added.

Though conditions on the water vary, our trip was wonderful. Even when the boat sped up to catch up with the whales, there was little need to “hang on”, and some of us remained standing throughout most of the trip. Still, you may want to pack medicine for those who might get seasick while bouncing(颠簸行进) along the waves.

1. How does the author start the text?
A.By telling a story.B.By asking questions.
C.By describing a scene.D.By giving background information.
2. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.A description of the author’s journey.
B.A list of best places for whale-watching.
C.An introduction to the travelling of whales.
D.A suggestion on taking a whale-watching tour.
3. What does Del Toro say about whale-watching?
A.It is suitable for all ages.
B.It is much too dangerous.
C.It may cause serious damage to wildlife.
D.It should be done from a proper distance.
4. How was the author’s trip?
A.It was smooth in general.
B.It was tiring in particular.
C.It was destroyed by a storm.
D.It was terrible due to his seasickness.

10 . I've been really lucky this year. Not only did I have the opportunity to live in France, but 1 was able to see some other countries with my girlfriend. Now she is studying in Essen, a large city in Western Germany. I recently went to stay with her----it was my first visit to Germany! Essen is a very large city. It has all the conveniences of any large city so I felt immediately at home. I love the variety of shops, restaurants, shopping malls, cocktail bars, nightclubs, parks and even a lake. There is also a city-wide network of trams(有轨电车), which makes getting around a piece of cake!...

I found the people to be really friendly, and most Germans speak very good English, which made life easy for me. I was surprised by the casual attitude to alcohol in Germany, where it seems normal for people to drink beer on the street or on the tram. My girlfriend and I visited two famous local cities. Dusseldorf and Cologne, which are both on the Rhine River. Dusseldorf is an urban metropolis with a great variety of restaurants. We took a boat tour on the river and went up the Rhine tower, a really tall building which offers great views across the city. Cologne, as you might know, is world famous for its perfumes. The cathedral(大教堂)there is an unmissable landmark. We made the effort to climb to the top of one of the cathedrals tower, The spiral(螺旋的)stairs seemed endless. but it was worthwhile for the impressive sights from the top.

We also went in a cable car over the river and tasted a German delicacy called "Spaghettieis” which is ice cream with strawberry sauce! I also got to try the famous German sausage. I must admit, I really enjoyed the food! The only disappointment was the grey and rainy weather, which proves that Britain does not have the worst weather in Europe!
