1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一片完整的短文。

“Wow, these trees are so tall!” William shouted excitedly, while walking with his classmates in a forest near his school. They were on a field trip to the forest as part of a science lesson.

Over there, they met the forester (护林人), Victor. When William learned Victor lived in a simple wooden house there for years, he laughed at him with his friends.

Then, they passed by an entrance to a cave. William wanted to explore inside the cave, but his teacher didn’t allow it. “I’ll come back here,” he thought. On the way back to school, he remembered the exact location of the cave.

The next day, William asked his four friends to the cave together. They told their parents they would go to the library and return home in the evening. None of the teenagers told their parents about their plan to visit the cave.

When the teenagers reached the cave, they left their school bags outside to reduce the burden. One by one, they entered the cave. Just when they took a few steps inside, some rocks from the cave wall fell and blocked the entrance.

“How are we going to get out now?” one of the teenagers Sarah shouted. William had an idea and said, “Maybe we can try digging through the fallen rocks with our hands to reach the entrance.” But realizing getting out of the cave only by their hands was impossible, they had great fear. The sun was about to go down. The teenagers started calling for help, but nobody could hear them. The teenagers were losing hope.

Victor happened to pass by the entrance to the cave, and five school bags caught his attention. He also heard some sounds coming from inside the cave. “Who’s in there?” Victor shouted.

“I’m William! We came here yesterday with our teacher!” William replied instantly.

“Help us, please! We are stuck! Sarah can’t breathe here because of fear.”

“Okay, calm down, children!” Victor said. “I’ll help you get out!”

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了《哈利波特》丛书的作者JK Rowling即将出版新书,并对此作出了评论和说明。

3 . J.K. Rowling, the Harry Potter’s author, has signed a deal with Little Brown Company to publish her first ever novel for adults, which is set to become one of the most anticipated (被期待的) books in years.

The deal means that Rowling’s long-standing relationship with Bloomsbury, the London-based publisher that launched (发行) the Harry Potter books, has come to an end, at least in terms of new works by the author.

Rowling is keeping her fans guessing about the characters and plot of her new book. She only said that the new novel will be nothing like the Harry Potter series, which was sold over 30 million copies in the UK alone. She thought that with the move from children’s to adult fiction, a switch to a new publisher seemed like a natural and reasonable step.

She said, “Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, this book will be very different from the Harry Potter series. The freedom to explore a new field is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me.”

Ian Rankin, the Edinburgh-based author whose highly-successful detective novels are also set in the city, suggested Rowling’s book will be a crime novel.

“Wouldn’t it be funny if J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults turned out to be a crime story set in Edinburgh?” he said. Industry insiders guessed that the deal is worth more than £5 million and the new book is expected to come out later this year.

A spokesman said, “J.K. Rowling’s audience is vast and her position is unique. Harry Potter books were a global success and her fans are very loyal. Children that were eight, nine, or ten when the books first came out in the 1990s are now in their 20s. Plenty of adults, loved the books regardless of whether they had children, so the potential market for her is huge.”

1. J. K. Roling’s new book for adults ________.
A.has been sold 30 million copies in the UK alone
B.is poorly thought of by the London-based publisher Bloomsbury
C.has nothing in common with the Harry Potter series
D.is expected to bring her more money than the Harry Potter series
2. We can learn from the text that ________.
A.Little Brown Company is specialized in publishing adult books
B.the author has no doubt about the success of Rowling’s new book
C.J.K. Rowling will be a crime novelist as good as Ian Rankin
D.it was in Edinburgh that Ian Rankin got to know J.K. Rowling
3. What does the underlined phrase “come out” in Paragraph 6 probably mean?
A.Be published.B.Turn out.C.Result in.D.Be withdrawn.
4. What the spokesman said in the last paragraph tells us that ________.
A.J.K. Rowling’s fans are so loyal that they don’t care what she will write at all
B.children won’t have any interest in J.K. Rowling’s new book
C.Rowling’s vast audience and unique position will guarantee the new book’s success
D.only readers of Harry Potter series will be interested in Rowling’s new book

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。迪士尼乐园受到全世界的欢迎,其中迪士尼对为客人服务的重视起到了重要作用。

6 . Millions of people pass through the gates of Disney’s entertainment parks in California, Florida and Japan each year. What makes these places an almost universal attraction? What makes foreign kings and queens and other important people want to visit these Disney parks? Well, one reason is the way they’re treated once they get there. The people at Disney go out of their way to serve their “guests” as they prefer to call them and to see that they enjoy themselves.

All new employees, from vice presidents to part-time workers, begin their employment by attending Disney University and taking “Traditions I”. Here, they learn about the company’s history, how it is managed and why it is successful. They are shown how each department relates to the whole. All employees are shown how their part is important in making the park a success.

After passing “Traditions I”, the employees go on to more specialised training for their specific jobs. No detail is missed. A simple job like taking tickets requires four to eight hours of training a day. When one ticket taker was asked why it took so much training for such a simple, ordinary job, he replied, “What happens if someone wants to know where the restrooms are, when the parade starts or what bus to take back to the campgrounds? We need to know the answers or where to get them quickly. Our constant aim is to help our guests enjoy the party.” Even Disney’s managers get involved in the daily management of the park. Every year, the managers leave their desks and business suits and put on special service clothes. For a full week, the bosses sell hot dogs or ice cream, take tickets or drive the monorail and take up any of the 100 jobs that make the entertainment park come alive. The managers agree that this week helps them to see the company’s goals more clearly.

All these efforts to serve the public well have made Walt Disney Productions famous. Disney is considered by many as the best mass service provider in America or the world. As one long time business observer once said, “How Disney treats people, communicates with them, rewards them, is in my view the very reason for its success. I have watched, very carefully and with great respect and admiration, the theory and practice of selling satisfaction and serving millions of people on a daily basis, successfully. It is what Disney does best.”

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了在面试中如何恰当地使用肢体语言。

9 . As soon as you meet, or even see, a person, you form an impression of him based on his postures, gestures and facial expressions. This is why it is important to make a good first impression on the person who will be interviewing you. Within the first 60 seconds of meeting you, the interviewer will have formed an impression about what type of person you are and what kind of employee you would become, and 55% of this will be based only on your body language. Here are some tips to make that impression a good one.

First of all, relax. Think positive thoughts and you are more likely to come across as a positive, confident person during the interview. Dress smartly, as your appearance is one of the first things an interviewer will notice you. Stand up straight, and walk in with your shoulders back and your head up. Try to avoid slowing down as you walk into the room because this suggests fear and uncertainty. Shake hands with the interviewer firmly. You should have a positive handshake and a warm smile. Opening your coat or jacket as you sit down shows that you, too, are open.

Posture is important. You should be sitting well back in your seat. Sit up straight and lean forward slightly, but not too much. Sitting at too much of an angle expresses discomfort and distrust. Two of the most common defensive(防卫的)signals are crossing your arms and legs, so try to avoid them.

Another important issue is eye contact. Looking someone in the eye shows confidence in yourself and trust in the other person. However, don’t overdo it, as too much eve contact or staring will make the other person uncomfortable. Use more eye contact when listening than when talking, and when you look away, look down. Looking up at the ceiling will make you seem bored or rude.

1. The purpose of the first paragraph is to tell readers          .
A.what a good first impression is
B.how to make a good first impression
C.how long it takes to make a first impression
D.the importance of making a good first impression
2. Which of the following does the author advise you to do when you are being interviewed?
A.Cross your arms or legs.
B.Open your coat or jacket when sitting down.
C.Go into the room more slowly than usual.
D.Avoid looking at the eyes of the interviewer directly.
3. If you lean forward too much, it means        .
A.you are very thrilledB.you are really comfortable
C.you don’t trust othersD.you don’t have confidence
4. Where can we read this passage?
A.In a newspaper.B.In a biography.
C.In a chemical paper.D.In a fiction novel.
