1 . Attitude actually is mental energy and from the moment you awake in the morning until you fall asleep at night, you are continuously producing this mental energy, or attitude. There is never a time when you can have a neutral attitude. Your attitude right now is either positive or negative.
Your attitude determines your altitude. For example, as a plane is in the air, it has an altitude indicator. The indicator tells the pilot in which direction the plane is going, up or down. Just like the plane, you too have an altitude indicator and you’re the pilot of your plane. The feeling that you gain when something is wrong or what you are doing is not right serves as your altitude indicator. We all have an attitude to our thinking which determines our destiny.
In fact, attitude is a matter of choice. It determines the size of our dreams and influences our determination when we face new challenges and the thing is, no one can control your attitude but you. No one can make us angry. We make ourselves angry when we give in to that control of our attitude and when people do things to anger us. All it does is put our attitude to the tests. We have that choice every morning of what kind of attitude we are going to have for the rest of the day.
Attitude is everything. To begin with every problem is an adventure. To fall, rise and try again is what we call adventure and that’s the real fun of life. Failure is not a bad thing but another chance for success. Dreaming of becoming successful is not enough. There’ ll be a lot of things you hate doing, but you have to do them all and that’s a success.
With a positive attitude, you’ll have the ability to be happier every day, make others around you happier, and live a good life.

3 . Over the last decades, we have witnessed an ever-increasing use of electronic devices, leading in turn to electronic waste (e-waste) becoming the world’s fastest growing waste stream. In 2019, a total of 53.6 Mt of e-waste was generated globally, only 17 percent of which is documented as having been managed in an environmentally sound manner, which has been pushing researchers to address the e-waste problem.
Now researchers at the Cellulose & Wood Materials Laboratory have crafted a water-activated disposable (一次性的) battery made of paper and other environmentally friendly materials.
The new paper battery has the same key components as traditional standard batteries. Like a traditional chemical battery, it has a positively charged side called a cathode, a negatively charged side called an anode and a conductive material called an electrolyte between the two. Instead, in the new battery, the anode and cathode are inks printed onto the front and back of a piece of paper. That paper is filled with salt. It will dissolve when you add just a couple of drops of water to the paper. The resulting saltwater solution acts as the electrolyte, which allows electrons to flow. About 20 seconds later, the battery will produce a stable 1.2 volts of electricity until the paper dries out. (For comparison, a standard AA battery provides 1.5 volts.)
The researchers demonstrated that their battery could present a sustainable alternative to the more harmful batteries that are common in low-power devices, such as an alarm clock. Nyström, head of the research, even pictures a bright future where these batteries are applied to diagnostic tests in hospitals and environmental sensors, ideally with other sustainable components such as screens and packaging. “That future may not be so far off.” Nyström said hopefully.
It is hard to predict a time line for producing such items on a large scale, but Nyström says he is in contact with potential industry partners and believes these batteries could make their way into products within the next two to five years.

7 . You’ve reached that special time — you are getting ready to leave your job and move on to the next step in your career. But the end of an employment relationship is not necessarily the end of the relationship — with either the leader or the company.
I learned this relatively early in my career. At first, I was concerned I might lose my relationship with my now former boss, as I truly liked him.
That isn’t to say it always goes like this. When I left another role, in spite of my desire to maintain communication, my former supervisor seemed indifferent and the relationship ended. Sometimes your boss was a nightmare and you want to end the relationship.
But for the good bosses and organizations, the ones that invested in your talent and celebrated your achievements, things are different.

B.So the way I left contributed to this breakup. |

8 . Electricity has started flowing from the Hornsea 2 wind farm, which will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm when it is complete. Located in the ocean off the UK’s east coast, it is unlikely to hold the title long, however. The expansion of onshore wind has flattened out, but offshore is in the rapid growth phase, and some huge projects are under development and consideration.
When complete, Hornsea 2 will consist of 165 wind turbines (涡轮机), each with a peak capacity of 8 MW. At 1,320 MW, Hornsea 2 will take the title of world’s largest from the neighboring Homsea 1, which has smaller but more numerous turbines, for a total capacity of 1,218 MW.
The project came in the fortuitous-timing. The possibility that limitations in gas supply and a cold winter could seriously disturb electricity networks in the UK, causing anxiety for months. Even a small part of Hornsea’s eventual production will help reduce that danger. On its first morning, it contributed to almost 50 percent of Britain’s electricity.
Meanwhile, the development coincides (类似) with China’s largest offshore wind farm, Jiangsu Qidong, which reached full operation a day later. At a total of 802 MW, Jiangsu Qidong is behind either Hornsea stage, but it is twice the size of the existing offshore wind farm outside Europe. North American wind farms usually standardize with a single size of turbine, but Jiangsu Qidong uses seven models.
Neither Hornsea nor Jiangsu Qidong compares to the giant wind farms being developed by Denmark and South Korea, and the more potential giant off Iceland. Even before those come to fruition, Hornsea’s third stage—with 2,400 MW soon to start construction—will leave them well behind.
Even with operations beginning at these wind farms, offshore wind accounts for less than 10 percent of global wind production. It’s also currently more expensive. However, prices are falling faster for offshore, as turbines get larger and experience grows. It is anticipated that the next round of UK wind farms, instead of requiring subsidies (补贴), will return money to the public.
1. What is Britain trying to do to provide more energy recently?A.Expand more onshore wind power farms. |
B.Produce more electricity from fossil fuels. |
C.Develop wind power from the land to the sea. |
D.Build the world’s largest turbine off the coast. |
A.At a high speed. | B.In a wide range. |
C.At the right moment. | D.Ahead of schedule. |
A.By making comparisons. | B.By following time order. |
C.By listing some statistics. | D.By giving some examples. |
A.Skeptical. | B.Tolerant. | C.Favorable. | D.Objective. |
9 . How to Respond when Someone Judges You
Dealing with judgment from other people can be tough, especially when it’s coming from a friend, family member, or colleague. Judgmental people are unavoidable, but you can easily deal with their criticism using positivity and compassion.
Rid yourself of the judgment. Remember that a judgmental person’s words are a reflection of their own beliefs-and not yours. Critical people criticize themselves more than anyone else.
Be sympathetic. Practice sympathy to understand the source of this person’s judgment. It could be that they were judged by parents, family, or friends, in which case this person’s critical attitude would be something they learned(and not necessarily intentional). While that doesn’t excuse their behavior, having sympathy can inform your response. Say things like “
Ask for clarification.
A.Stop talking like this |
B.Set boundaries in the conversation |
C.I understand why you feel that way |
D.I feel like I need to deal with this in my way |
E.I know you want to talk but this is a sensitive subject for me |
F.Judgmental people may not know they’re being rude or unreasonable |
G.So the judgment they pass isn’t actually about you, though it can feel personal |
