The following tips might help boost your self-confidence so you can feel more comfortable with whom you are.

    1     Sometimes people’s criticism can be severe, but our criticism of ourselves is likely the hardest. We all know that no one is perfect, yet most people tend to expect more from themselves than is realistic. To stop this habit, it may help to write down all your strengths and remind yourself of them each time you begin to criticize yourself.

Think about what makes you feel attractive. Make a list of things that make you attractive. You might begin with qualities that make you a good friend, parent, or co-worker.     2    

Set goals for yourself.     3     You don’t have to set large goals; you might begin with small goals that you can easily achieve. It may be helpful to keep a list of the accomplishments(成绩，成就) that have made you feel proud. You can use this list as a motivation to get you to achieve your bigger goals.

Be grateful and helpful. Doing good things for others can make us feel good about ourselves. The smallest gestures, like smiling or holding the door for someone, can make a big difference to someone.     4     Being able to make a positive difference for someone may make you feel good and improve your self-image.

4 . Public Invited to Volunteer for National Public Lands Day Projects

The National Park Service is seeking volunteers for a work project that will occur in the Mammoth (猛犸) area of Yellowstone National Park on Saturday, September 28th. On the National Public Lands Daywith the largest single-day volunteer effort on public lands, the park’s entrance fees won’t be charged for all visitors.

Volunteers will participate in trail (路径) restoration work across the main road from the Mammoth Campground. Work will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., including removing social trails, planting native vegetation, defining a trail, etc. This work requires the use of hand tools, lifting heavy rocks or bags of rocks, and working in variable weather conditions.

Drinks and snacks will be provided. All volunteers should bring lunch, sunscreen, and footwear. Weather is unpredictable and can be cold and very windy in late September, so bring clothing suitable for a range of conditions.

If you’re a fast runner, you’ll want to take part in the 5th Line 5K organised by OhioHealth, which will begin at 10 a. m. Sunday outside of Nationwide Arena. The race will include a 3.1-mile tour of downtown Columbus and the Arena District before finishing inside Nationwide Arena. The race is limited to the first 4,000 runners and walkers who have registered.

9 . Wildfires are common nowadays. Lightning, campfires, power lines or other sources may lead to big wildfires.     1     But when they break out on populated places, wildfires can endanger human lives and property.

Still, wildfires have always been a part of some forest ecosystems.     2     For one thing, wildfires can get rid of trespassers(入侵者). The native animals often know how to escape a wildfire. But harmful species may not, so they could get wiped out.

Fires can prevent trees from overcrowding each other, which allows smaller plants and animals that need sunlight to grow below. Plus, wildfires burn up a lot of leaf litter, pine needles and other dead matter on the ground. This clears out junk that may stop new plants from growing and releases nutrition back into the soil.     3    

There are also species that have evolved (进化) to depend on regular wildfires. Banksia trees in Australia, for instance, only release their seeds in the heat of a wildfire.     4     And birds such as the black-backed woodpecker prefer to live in recently burned areas, because newly burnt trees may offer easy access to a feast of insects.

    5     They set these fires only in areas and under weather conditions where they're sure they can control the flames. Specific burns are meant to provide the benefits of natural, low-intensity fires. So, one important way to protect against fires is professionals setting them.
