Looking after a group of teens at our state's annual youth meeting kept me busy, so I looked forward to relaxing by doing crafts. That's when I first noticed Jenny. It was hard not to notice her. As she walked, she moved her legs difficultly. Even when she tried to stand still, muscle spasms(痉挛)seized an arm and threw it into the air or pulled her head to the side. Kids would glance up and then look away quickly. My heart ached at the sight of how cerebral palsy(脑瘫)affected her life.
Before long, Jenny settled on a wood-burning project and began gathering her supplies. I sat across from her, picking up a thin board and penciled my last name on it with a little flower in the corner. That was the limit of my creative abilities. Meanwhile, Jenny drew on her board carefully. Soon, a beautiful girl sat under a tree surrounded by flowers.
“Pretty,” I said. She smiled with a little shy. I picked up the hot, wood-burning tool to begin. How would Jenny complete her project without burning herself? Oh, she didn't. Surprisingly, her unexpected movements but amazing skills began to cause “Great”, “Wonderful” from kids who were also attracted by surprise from time to time. A few minutes later, under Jenny's hands, a beautiful image took shape.
So interested at such a gifted girl with disability, we began a free talk. “What project area are you in?” “Clothing.” “Oh, do you love sewing?” “How many years do you spend on your practice?” “Will you feel tired and want to give up?” Even her voice trembled from the effects of her disorder. But slow answers with determination from Jenny really moved us again and again. “I sew some, never giving up, for many years. Also, I'm here, to compete in the clothing selection contest. I'll model suit, made by myself this evening at the gathering.”
Model? I took a deep breath. The night before, some of the youth had made rude noises at talent contest participants. Was she going in front of that group?
I gave her my best encouraging smile. “I'll watch for you.”

4 . London—A few hundred regular customers and pedestrians(行人)offered to help October Books of Southampton in England move books along the street last Friday. The shop had been struggling to afford the rising rent prices of the building that they had occupied since 1977 and decided to move to an old bank building down the block.
But how would they be able to move their books to the new location without having to pay for expensive moving services? October Books put out a call for volunteers to form a “human conveyor belt” between their old store and the new location 500 feet down the street.
They expected maybe a few dozen people to show up, but to their surprise, over 200 people lined up on the sidewalk to pass each of the store's 2,000 books to their new home. Amy Brown, one of the store's employees, said that she was astonished at so many people. “I was handing books to people without actually seeing the entire of it,” said Brown. “So it was only after about 20minutes that I actually went out into the road and saw the extent of the people.” When passing pedestrians asked what people were doing, they would join in to give a hand. Nearby restaurants even brought hot teas and coffees for the volunteers.
“It was really sort of surprising and positive, and just a really moving experience to see people joining in because they wanted to help. And they wanted to be part of something bigger,” Brown said. Now this small independent book store in England isn't just surviving—it is growing thanks to the city that adores its literary services.

5 . When you arrive on campus, you'll face a tough task: to live peacefully with a stranger for the rest of the academic year. To make this task easier, most schools use some type of room-assignment survey.
When considering privacy, think about how you and your roommate will arrange for private time. If your class is canceled, consider going for a cup of coffee. Privacy also relates to giving your roommate space when he or she has had a bad day or just needs time to think.
Two other potentially issues are chores and borrowing. If cleaning chores need to be shared, make a schedule and stick to it. When it comes to borrowing, it's important to set up clear rules.
Living with a roommate can be challenging at times, but the ultimate rewards will serve you well later in life.
