文章大意:这是一篇说明文。短文介绍了“当我们善待自己时,有时会让我们感到内疚”这一观点的相关信息。

1 . You might have heard of the expression “a guilty pleasure”—maybe it’s the chocolate bar you buy on the way home from work, or the new clothes that you don’t really need. It comes from the idea that when we treat ourselves, it can sometimes leave us feeling guilty. Perhaps we don’t feel we deserved it, or we don’t think it was a responsible way to spend our money. But should we feel like this?     1

Perhaps not. Psychologists have suggested that buying things for yourself can make you feel better as it provides an opportunity to take control of your situation. It can give you social contact as well as a confidence boost from changes you make to your self-image.     2     When you buy a treat, you might just be looking after yourself.

Of course, there are also examples of people turning to destructive behaviour when faced with stressful circumstances.     3     Psychologist Leon Seltzer considers the difference between self-indulgence (放纵) and self-nurturing. Self-indulgence can have negative consequences, while self-nurturing is described as the result of taking responsible decisions to look after ourselves.

4     Many universities publish guides with advice for coping with pressure. Reflecting the difference between self-indulgence and self-nurture, they recommend rewarding yourself for your efforts. Do things that you enjoy and are good at so that you can feel accomplishment and to avoid things that may make you feel worse afterwards.

So perhaps,     5     we shouldn’t feel guilty about our guilty pleasures. Indulging in those guilty pleasures that bring us joy is sometimes okay.

A.It can also be a great way to lift your mood.
B.as long as we make responsible decisions,
C.Do we really have to feel guilty about treating ourselves?
D.when guilty pleasures are getting in the way of our goals,
E.One stress that people may need to deal with is exam stress.
F.Is it because we’re afraid of being judged or teased by others?
G.People might spend money that they don’t have or turn to dangerous addictions.

文章大意:这是一篇应用文。旨在介绍冷水疗法的益处,以及如何更好地运用这一疗法。

8 . With many people setting health goals as part of their New Year’s resolutions, here are the reasons why you should include cold water therapy (冷水疗法) in yours.

Improved sleep

The calming effects of cold water therapy extend to the field of sleep. Some individuals report enhanced relaxation and improved sleep quality, particularly when engaging in this practice before bedtime.

Stress reduction

The stimulation of the body’s stress response during cold water therapy holds the potential to enhance one’s tolerance to stress over time. Regular exposure to this practice may contribute to an increased adaptation to stressors, developing a more adaptive response to life’s challenges.

Skin and hair health

Cold water’s ability to constrict blood vessels (收缩血管) can lead to reduced puffiness (浮肿), contributing to healthier-looking skin. Furthermore, exposure to cold water may impart benefits to hair health and shine, adding beauty to the overall well-being promoted by this tradition.

Increased endurance

Exploring the fields of physical fitness, regular engagement in cold water therapy is suggested to improve endurance. This enhancement is due to the positive impact on cardiovascular (心血管) strength, ultimately increasing the body’s tolerance to stress on the cardiovascular system over time.

While the benefits are convincing, it is crucial to acknowledge that individual responses can vary. Therefore, consulting with a healthcare professional is advisable before starting cold water therapy.

Additionally, a gradual approach and proper adaptability are essential to avoid subjecting the body to extreme cold exposure without due preparation.
