文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者去爱尔兰的科克留学,体会到了当地的风土人情,感到十分愉快。

1 . As most people would be, I was very nervous about studying abroad in a foreign country. Luckily, Ireland is English-speaking and any contact with program advisors, housing, or the University was nothing short of excellent.

I chose to study abroad in Cork, Ireland. One of the greatest gifts Cork gave to me was a course I took at University College Cork. It was called Irish Folklore (民间传说) with Shane Lehane who was very nice. This lecture changed my world. I got to learn about the old fairy legends, unique Irish and Cork festivals and celebrations, traditions, and much about butter and potatoes. This class taught me so much about tradition and the importance of it. Although I met some difficulties due to the difference in cultural background, these didn’t stop me from moving forward.

Similar to Shane, the local people of Cork were very nice and they were what made the city so wonderful. Con and his family who ran the fruit and veg store that was by my apartment became my source of local information about Cork, Ireland, and all the people in it. They waved to me when they saw me walking along the road and those were moments that I felt most at home.

I could go on and on about how much I loved Cork and why, but to round it out, the live music was special. The Cork Jazz Festival was the most unique and exciting weekend in town, but every night and every weekend there was a band, singer, or guitar player somewhere in the City Centre. I have always enjoyed music, but it is clear to me that after my time in Cork wherever there is live music, I’m going to be there.

With its nature, sights, traditions, cities, towns, and coastlines, Ireland has so much to offer. I am glad I chose it.

A.Live music is very popular in Cork.
B.Live music events are limited to special days.
C.The Cork Jazz Festival attracts a lot of foreigners.
D.The Cork Jazz Festival focuses on traditional Irish music.
4. Which of the following can best describe the author’s stay in Cork?

3 . If you have a big test coming up or want to do well in class, studying is one of the best things you can do. Here are some tips on forming the best study habits so you can do your best in class.

Study in 1-hour blocks.     1     Set aside an hour for each of your subjects so you have time to review them completely. During each block, only focus on 1 subject at a time so you don’t get information mixed up between classes.

Plan regular breaks. Since studying takes up a lot of energy and brain power, it’s a good idea to schedule 5-10 minutes of relaxation every hour.     2     Listen to music, take a walk, or go get a snack to give yourself some space from your schoolwork.

3     Working with your classmates can help keep you motivated (有动力). Ask other students that you’re in class with if they want to review with you. Try quizzing (测验) each other on concepts (概念).     4     Try teaching other people in your study group the concepts you’re learning. That way, you’ll be able to learn easier and more effectively.

Rewrite your notes in your own words. Organizing your notes helps you remember information a lot easier.     5     Rewrite them on a separate page so all of the similar information is organized and easy to read.

A.Form a study group.
B.Stay organized and work somewhere quiet.
C.Avoid working through the breaks you’ve planned.
D.Find places that work best for you so you can focus.
E.Keep your study time shorter so you don’t get worn out.
F.Solve problems independently before comparing answers.
G.Even if you took notes in class, the information may be all over the place.

One afternoon in August, five years after Mom passed away, I was unpacking my groceries(食品杂货) in my kitchen. When I lifted my left hand out of a grocery bag, I suddenly couldn’t breathe. Looking at the ring on my finger, I found the star sapphire (蓝宝石)was gone. Mom had given me the ring on my twenty-first birthday. I had worn it every day for twenty-nine years. It was a reminder of Mom and a symbol of our love.

“No! No! No!” I yelled, hurrying to check the bag and the floor, and then my car, but the star sapphire was nowhere to be found. Feeling helpless, I called my best friend, Marie. “The star sapphire in my ring fell out. I don’t know what to do,” I said, extremely worried.

Marie replied, “Please don’t be anxious. Try to stay calm and positive. You can go back to the places you just visited and take a look.” But how could I keep hope in seemingly impossible situations? Anyway, I started my car and drove to the grocery store again. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was little chance that I could find my stone.

Back at the grocery store, I pulled into the same parking spot and looked everywhere for my star sapphire. My hands and knees felt the hot ground as I searched crazily around and under my SUV car. Then I rushed inside the store, searching for a familiar face for more help. I spotted Amanda, a staff member whom I had met on previous shopping trips, and urgently tapped her on the shoulder. “I was just here twenty minutes ago and lost the stone of this ring. It’s very special to me. It’s from my late mom. Could you please help me look for it?” I cried, unaware that many other people around also heard my words.

Amanda’s eyes softened and she nodded understandingly. She immediately took a large mop(拖把) and started carefully sweeping it back and forth down the first aisle (过道) of the huge store.

In tears, I called after her, “It’s light blue and small.”

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了中国自主研发的导航系统——北斗卫星导航系统(BDS)。

7 . How do people find their ways? At first, people did it by looking at the sun, the moon and stars. Later, we started to use the compass. Today, there are navigation(导航) satellite systems.

A navigation satellite system uses groups of satellites. They send information to a receiver, such as your smartphones. Then they can find where you are.

The earliest navigation system is the Global Positioning System (GPS) of the United States. The US has put 24 satellites into space to make sure GPS can locate a person correctly and globally. Russia’s GLONASS and European Union’s Galileo can also work globally.

The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) is China’s homegrown navigation system. It was set up in 2000. With it, China became the third country to build a navigation system after the US and Russia.

BeiDou can find you wherever you are. It helps you go faster by finding shortcuts and using correct directions. When you are in trouble and call the police, they will know exactly where you are if you have a smartphone that uses BeiDou.

Today, there are more than 20 BeiDou satellites above our heads. And the system is able to offer open services to the Asia-Pacific area.

China plans to send more BeiDou-3 satellites into space. BeiDou-3’s position accuracy (精确度) is less than five metres. By 2020, BeiDou system has had 35 satellites and begun serving globally.
