The fairest woman in the world was Helen.
So matters stood when Paris gave the golden apple to Aphrodite. The Goddess of Love and Beauty knew very well where the most beautiful woman on earth was
Menelaus returned to find Helen gone, and he called upon all of Greece to help recover her. The chieftains responded
Army had arrived, the King was plowing a field and sowing it with salt
Achilles was kept back by his mother. She sent him to the court of Lycomedes and made him wear women’s clothing, hiding him among the maidens. Odysseus was dispatched by the chieftains to bring him out. Disguised as a peddler he went to the court
So the great fleet made ready.

“Bye, Mom; bye, Dad; don’t worry. We’ll take care of everything!’’ Carly waved from the front door of the shop as her parents drove off. They were headed for a well-deserved vacation from their candy store, and Carly had promised them she’d be able to run it by herself. Her parents didn’t quite agree, however, so they gave in to each other by having Carly Aunt Maggie come over and help. Her parents often called her aunt “uniquely creative’’, but it didn’t matter; Carly always had fun when her aunt was around.
Maggie blew into the store happily. “All right, Carly my love, what do we do first?” she smiled at her niece. Carly knew clearly the main job was to serve customers, so she could hardly wait to make her best candies. Seeing them on display, Aunt Maggie bit a bite of the chocolate mint-flavored candy. “It’s good, but… unoriginal,” commented her aunt. “We can do better.”
Before Carly could question what Maggie meant, the woman had gone to investigate the kitchen in the back. Shortly, she came back, hands full of items. “We need to add some of these to better that basic taste.” “Brussels sprouts? (芽甘蓝粉)’’ Carly looked at her aunt, surprised and puzzled. She couldn’t be serious! But she was. Carly’s eyes grew wide as she watched her aunt mix it together. “And some spicy sauce (辣酱汁)? That’s definitely an ice cream flavor. The cold will perfectly make candies less spicy!” Carly shook her head as Maggie continued her strange candy combinations: lemonade-flavored candy, barbeque-flavored candy...
Carly looked up as the bell over the front door rang, announcing some customers. Three boys came in and approached the counter. “Try something new!” insisted Maggie, offering the first boy a piece of the Brussels sprout candy she had made, the second boy a spoon of hot sauce one... Puzzled, but too polite to argue, the boys left the store.
“There go our customers. Nobody will want to shop here!” Carly said to herself. The store was quiet. Carly sat behind the counter, not knowing what to wait.

Reflecting on the experience of being trapped in a yacht(帆船)and saved later, Tony told reporters, ". . . Now that Fm getting a bit older, there is one thing that I don't mind telling the world: In these last six days, I'm a different person. I won't be so rude to people, not that I was, but I’ll be much more of a gentleman and I’ll listen to people a lot more. And as a dear old friend of mine, David, once told me when he got over the heart attack and smelt the fresh air again, he said, 'God, it was like being born all over again; life was great! "Well, that's how I feel now, like being born all over again. "
In January 1997 British yachtsman Tony was sailing solo deep in the Southern Ocean. A gale(大风)was raging. The waves, reaching the height of a five-story building, rushed on him with a sound like roaring thunder. As his yacht fell down the face of a wave, it hit something in the water and turned upside down.
Tony, who had been sheltering in the two-meter by three-meter cockpit(驾驶舱), found it had become his prison. As giant waves buffeted the boat, water poured in and out a broken window, knee high at one end, waist high at the other. The air temperature was down to 2 degrees Celsius, and it was pitch black-the sun couldn't go through the upturned yacht.
Twelve times Tony left the cockpit in a vain attempt to release his life raft. Then he had to take refuge in his little cabin. Sitting inside the cold inky darkness, Tony only had some chocolate and a device for making fresh water from the salty sea. With his fingers becoming frostbitten, Tony thought that he v/as going to die. The odds of being rescued seemed impossibly small.

My grandparents’ house is in Rosewood and they have a small house with a lovely garden. “Grandpa has gone to visit his brother and Grandma is staying alone at home,” I said to my friends Melissa and Rocky, both of whom were more than willing to go to give her a surprise. After we got ready, Dad drove us there.
When we arrived, my grandma was so surprised and happy. She gave me a big hug. “Won’t you introduce me to your friends?” said Grandma.
My friends were introduced and Grandma gave them each a warm hug. Dad stayed for a while and left for his own work. Then we enjoyed talking and playing in the garden. Lunch was served. Grandma prepared a tasty meal of vegetable soup chicken sandwiches and strawberry ice cream for us. After lunch, we sat in the garden in a semicircle facing Grandma, and listened to her telling interesting stories
We were interrupted by a sudden and urgent knock on the door. I jumped up to open the door. It was Janet, Grandma’s neighbor.
“Mrs. White, my daughter Eva went to walk our dog Bruno, and hasn’t returned home yet. She always comes back in ten minutes or so. I’m very worried that something has happened to her. She usually walks on the main street outside our home but I can’t see her anywhere. I called out her name, but there was no answer. I have hurt my foot and can hardly walk, so I want to ask you for help,” said Janet.
“Aunty Janet, please don’t worry. My friends and I will go and look for Eva. I’m sure we will find her soon,” I said.
Grandma stayed with Janet and looked after her. We left the garden immediately to search for Eva and Bruno. We called Eva’s name and looked everywhere but couldn’t find her. I thought we would have to go back in vain.

Are People Unique?
It is human beings' pride that we are the only species on the Planet that can speak and think. However, recent research casts doubt on that common belief.
Zuberbuhler, a psychologist at St Andrews University, and his colleagues recorded thousands of calls made by Diana monkeys and noticed that the monkeys adapted their calls to change the meaning to warn one another about different situations. For example, they made a "krack" alarm call at the sight of a tiger. However, when they merely repeated calls made by other monkeys they added an "oo".
The researchers found that the same calls would be recognized by other species, like Campbell's monkeys. So they are communicating across species."And since then we have found that hornbill birds can understand these calls and they too can understand all the different meanings, said Zuberbuhler. What is also surprising is that signs of intelligence have been found in birds whose small brains were long assumed to be a complete barrier to intelligence. However, all that is changing fast. A few years ago, Irene Pepperberg of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology taught a parrot to recognize and count up to six objects, which couldn't have been achieved if birds were unable to memorize.
Last year that was topped by Alex Kacelnik, a professor of behavioral ecology at Oxford, who discovered that crows (乌鸦) are capable of using tools in complex orders, the first time such behavior had been observed in non-humans. In an experiment seven crows successfully grabbed a piece of food placed out of reach using three different lengths of stick. Crucially, they were able to complete the task without any special training, suggesting the birds were capable of a level of abstract reasoning normally associated only with humans.
All this is powerful evidence against the idea that people are unique.

Kilimandjaro was a popular place for soccer fans who went to watch Middlesbrough F.C. play over the weekend to eat after the game. Waka Waka Chicken was one of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
Everything seemed normal for the owner of the restaurant, Apollo, who always values the virtue of honesty, and his waiters. Customers were flocking in, and service was running smoothly that day. Apollo, to be honest, wasn’t even there. He was having a good time with his family, completely unaware of what was going on in his restaurant. He had no idea that something unexpected was about to happen and that he’d be getting a rather awkward phone call from the waiter.
At about 11:00 a. m, three guys walked in, clearly interested in sitting down and eating some food. There’s a good chance they came from out of town and were fans of the away team. At the very least, the staff could detect a difference in their accents. It wasn’t long before they were attended to by a waiter who took their orders. After that, everything appeared to be going well…The three friends were glad they had chosen Kilimandjaro. Waka Waka Chicken with cheese was enjoyed by them. From their expression, the staff could tell these three guys were very satisfied with the food.
About one hour later, the three friends were prepared to pay for their meals. The total cost of the food was £35. They reached for their credit cards and handed them over as the waiter approached their table. However, they were shocked when the waiter informed them that they could only pay in cash. None of them carried cash with them. At this time, the waiter was asked to go to another table to take orders. Realizing the last train back home was to depart in an hour, the three friends had other ideas…
