John Snow was a well-known doctor in London. Cholera was the most deadly diseases of its day. Neither its cause nor its cure were understood. So many thousands of terrified people died every time when there was an outbreak.
At that time, there were theories explained how cholera killed people. John Snow suspected the second one. As the disease spreaded quickly through the poor neighborhoods, he began to gather the information. He marked on a map the exact places all the dead people had lived. The map gave a valuable clue about the cause of the disease—the water from Broad Street pump seemed to be to blame. However, he found the water came from the polluted river.
With other two cases, John Snow announced for certainty that the polluted water carried the disease and suggested that the source of all water supplies was examined. Finally “King cholera” was defeated.

Yesterday, one of my colleague expressed her wish to reading The Little Prince. This is the five year that we’ve worked together. So I decide to make her wish come true. I went to a bookstore after work to look for book, imagining her reaction when she discovered it on her desk the next morning. The next morning, I arrived early at the office than usual so that nobody would see me secret leaving the book on her desk. This small gesture really made me happy. She thanked for everyone in our office. How a pleasure it is to help her realize her dream!

When I was a little boy, I was always hoping to visit Tian’anmen Square. My dream finally comes true last summer vacation. Although there was a shower, but the rain stopped soon and the sun came out quickly. More and more people came to the square to breathing the cool and fresh air. Suddenly some people shouted excited. I noticed much of them were looking up into the sky. I did same and saw a beautiful rainbow, what was like a seven-colored bridge, hanging in the sky. See a symbol of good fortune during my visit to my favorite place, I felt very pleasing. The unforgettable experience will always stay in our mind.
Last Saturday, I took on a bus to the museum. On the bus, a young man was smoking. I want to advise him to stop smoking but I gave up because I was shy. But the smoke was very heavy that the old lady sitting in front of him began coughing. Eventually, the old lady bad cough helped me make up my mind. She approached the young man and said, “Excuse me, would you mind stopping smoking? There are so many passenger on the bus, and they can’t stand it.” Hear this, the young man felt embarrassing and stopped smoking. I praised by the people on the bus. What happy I was!

Last term, nothing were going well in my study. One day, my father suggested we took a walk. While walking, my father said, “I believe there are still many good things to be thankful, no matter what hard life is.” Motivate by his words, I began keeping track of the good things in my life. When the sun rose, I wrote it down on paper and careful put that paper in a box. Each time I wear my favorite dress, and I wrote that down. Learning that the captain of the ship, the Beagle, wanted someone who would like to have the opportunity of visiting distance countries yet little known, a young man answered the call. Hello, everyone! I would like to share my travel experience for you. Last summer, ours school had an exchange programme with an American school, but I took part in it with many classmates. We stay at host families, that gave us an opportunity to learn more about America. The main part of our programme was to experience the school life in the America. Compare with Chinese students, American students were very open and active. Besides, they had less homeworks and fewer exams. During the visit, I made friends with some American students, who were very interesting in Chinese culture. I think the programme is of great benefit to us as well the American students.

Sometimes 1 feel that living in a city makes people lonely than before. People always feel strangers cannot trusted. They think this is not normal to start talking to anyone or even smile at anyone. I desire to change that. Last week, while I was skate, a man ran by, smiling at me. He said something to me about doing sports or he hoped to be able to finishing his run. I smiled back and said that he certain would. And then a family cycles by when I was in the park. One of the girl waved at me with a big smile, and I waved back enthusiastically. I do believe such small gestures can change into the world we live in.
I'd like tell you something about your life in this boarding school. I stay in a dormitory with three other girls, all of them are kind and nice. We get on well with each other and have become good friends. Living in a boarding school make me independent. I am confidence to take care of myself, wash the clothes, and clean the rooms, which I never do when at home. The classes here are very interesting and challenging, and I'm still feeling a little dissatisfied with some other thing. The living conditions are not as good as those at home and the chance to get in the touch with the outside world is limited. Anyway, I'll get used to live here and hope everything will be better soon.
