3 . Playing sports offers you more than just physical benefits (好处).     1     The benefits are the same whether or not you’re good at sports. If you are not good enough to play competitively on a school team, you can play sports with your friends.

Making new friends.

Playing sports enables you to create friendships you otherwise might not have formed.     2     You play together happily and gradually know each other. Many times, the friendships you create on the field remain strong when you are not playing sports.

Understanding the value of health.

Taking part in sports improves your health in many ways.     3     This gets you thinking about what to eat and how to treat your body so as to achieve the highest performance levels. Thus, playing sports can lead to better eating habits and prevent you from becoming too fat.

Building team spirit.

Sports provide children with the important lesson of learning how to work in a team.     4     By working together they will learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses and will be better able to decide and work out the best plan for the team. This will without doubt help them in their future lives and jobs as well.

Playing sports requires a lot of time and energy. Some may think this would take students’ attention away from schoolwork. However, the opposite is true. Sports require memorization, repetition and learning — skills that are directly relevant (有关的) to schoolwork.

Three quarters of an hour later the doorbell rang and the house erupted in excitement. Bruno and Gretel took their places standing side by side by the staircase and Mother waited beside them,     1    . Father gave them all a quick glance and nodded, looking pleased by what he saw, and then opened the door.

Two people stood outside: a rather small man and a taller woman.

The Fury was far shorter than Father and not, Bruno supposed, quite as strong. He had dark hair, which was cut quite short, and a tiny moustache—so tiny in fact that Bruno wondered why he bothered with it at all or whether he had simply forgotten a piece when he was shaving. The woman standing beside him, however, was quite the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life. She had blonde hair and very red lips, and while the Fury spoke to Mother she     3    , making him go red with embarrassment.

“And these are my children, Fury,” said Father as Gretel and Bruno stepped forward. “Gretel and Bruno.”

“And which is which?” the Fury said, which made everyone laugh except for Bruno, who thought it was perfectly obvious which was which and hardly cause for joke. The Fury stretched out his hand and shook their and Gretel     4    . Bruno was delighted when it went wrong and she almost fell over.

“When charming children,” said the beautiful blonde woman. “And how old are they, might I ask?”

“I’m twelve but he’s only nine,” said Gretel, looking at her brother with disdain. “And I can speak French too,” she added, which was not strictly speaking true, although she had learned a few phrases in school.

“Yes, but why would you want to?” asked the Fury, and this time no one laughed; instead they     5     and Gretel stared at him, unsure whether he wanted an answer or not.

6 . When a thunderstorm comes, lightning strikes can be a dangerous threat. Powerful lightning strikes can hit trees, bodies of water, vehicles, and even buildings. Lightning can cause power cut, damage to structures, and possibly serious injury.     1    , especially considering that we often compare unlikely events to being struck by lightning. It does happen. Here are some important tips.

Have a weather warning radio. The most important tool you can have is a weather warning radio.     2    , and continue providing information about the storm's threat, which can include dangerous lightning strikes.

Find shelter. During bad weather, the most important thing to remember is to find shelter. Strong buildings such as homes and businesses provide the most protection.     3    .

If outdoors, find cover. If you are outdoors and unable to find shelter indoors, take cover in a vehicle. The car’s metal structure will protect you from a lightning strike.     4    ,you can do a few things that may lower your risk of getting hit by lightning. Trees, tall objects, and metal structures are most likely to be hit, so don't plan on using those for shelter.

Stay away from windows and conductors(导体). Lightning can cause serious injury to you or your family no matter where you are, even in your own home.     5    . Because water and metal conduct electricity, avoid using water, like taking a shower.
