文章大意:本文是说明文。短文讲了家庭火灾每年都会导致许多人死亡,不幸的是,许多火灾都是由孩子们造成的。详细的介绍了如何使用烟雾报警器来预防火灾。

1 . Smoke alarms(报警器)

House fires cause many deaths each year and a large number of these fires are unfortunately set by children.    1    . Kids must understand that they’d better not play with fire. You should keep matches and lighters out of their reach.

2    . The main job of such an alarm is to protect you while you’re asleep. You should have a smoke alarm outside each bedroom and on each floor of your home. You ought to have two plans for getting out of your house if there is a fire and practise these plans in the dark with your family.

A smoke alarm warns you of the danger.     3    .Take action immediately. When you come to a closed door, check it with the back of your hand. If it feels hot, there may be smoke or fire behind the door, so take care. Once you are out of your house, call the fire department from a neighbor’s house. If a family member or a pet is caught inside, you shouldn’t go back in. Firemen know how to perform rescues safely.

4    . Change the batteries at least once a year. You should use the test button each month to see if the alarm and batteries are still working. A smoke alarm lasts about ten years. You ought to change it even if it seems to be working.

About two out of three fire deaths happen in homes with no working smoke alarms.    5    .

A.Most of these deaths can be avoided
B.But when you hear it,you don’t have much time
C.A smoke alarm is only good if it’s working properly
D.So, it’s important to teach them that fire is a tool, not a toy
E.A smoke alarm greatly reduces your chances of being hurt in a fire

Building team spirit.

Sports provide children with the important lesson of learning how to work in a team.     4     By working together they will learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses and will be better able to decide and work out the best plan for the team. This will without doubt help them in their future lives and jobs as well.

4 . Are you aware that you actually possess six senses? The sixth is a muscular sense responsible for directing your muscles intelligently—to the exact extent necessary for each action you perform. For example,     1    , the sensory nerves linking the muscles to the brain stop your hand at the correct spot. This automatic perception of the position of your muscles in relation to the object is your muscular sense in action.

Muscles are stringy bundles of muscle fibers varying from one five-thousandth of an inch to about three inches.    2     They can become shorter and thicker, they can stretch, and they can retract to their original positions.     3    , muscle tissue is seen as long, slender cells with a grainy texture like wood.

More than half of a person’s body is composed of muscle fibers, most of which are involuntary.     4     The voluntary muscles, those that we move consciously to perform particular actions, number more than five hundred.     5    That is why an average woman can’t lift as much, throw as far, or hit as hard as an average man.

A.Women have only 60 to 70 percent as much muscle as men for their body mass.
B.They have three unique characteristics.
C.In other words, they work without conscious direction.
D.Under a high-powered microscope

5 . How to Learn English Idioms (习语)

One way to improve your English is to learn English idioms-and then use them.     1     They make you sound more like a native speaker. Like other languages, English has thousands of idioms which you can use in many different situations, or to talk about your feelings and opinions. So how do you learn them?

Learn idioms in context

It’s difficult to learn idioms through lists.     2     Make sure you have an example of how the idiom is used, and know clearly whether it’s common. This is important, because if you use the idiom in the wrong situation, it won’t sound natural.

Don’t try to learn too many at once

3     For that reason, don’t try to learn more than five at any one time. Don’t forget: You’ll need to practise your new idioms (like any new vocabulary), so limit what you do in any lesson.

Understand the feeling

We often use an idiom to express a feeling or emotion. So for example, we say that someone has a heart of gold. Because gold is a precious metal, we can imagine that someone with a heart of gold is a good person.     4

Listen out for idioms

If you hear two words used together in an unusual way, it might well be a new idiom.     5     However, usually you might need to make a note of it or ask the person who has spoken it.

A.Idioms can be complex.
B.Instead, learn their meanings in context.
C.Idioms can add interest to what you say or write.
D.In fact, it does mean that a person is very kind.
E.Sometimes you can guess its meaning in context.

Account holders get points by correctly sorting their garbage. Through the Allpay app, they can exchange the points for milk, phone cards and other products.     3

Wet waste is also known as household waste. “They are things you don’t want but that pigs can eat,” Guangzhou Daily explained.

Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste.

Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs(荧光灯泡). Finally, any waste that’s not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the “dry waste” bin.

Many other Chinese cities are also using this method to sort their garbage. For example, Shenzhen has been sorting its garbage into the same four groups since 2012. Students there also receive waste-sorting guidebooks that they must study, China is improving its waste-sorting efforts.    4    . But it’s never too late to learn how to sort your trash properly and protect the environment.

If you don’t sort your garbage, all of it will go to a landfill(垃圾填埋场) and be buried together.

5    The electronic waste you throw away, such as batteries, can pollute the soil and groundwater(地下水).

Other pieces of garbage, like the metal part of a pen, can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.

10 . Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.

Once again, DC Comics and Warner Bros, have divided fans and critics -- over the superhero film Justice League.

1     There are a log of reshoots of scenes. A new director was brought in to finish the film after original director Zack Snyder’s tragic loss of his daughter. Of course, there was a lot of talk about Ben Affleck’s future in the role of Batman.

Some people are saying that Justice League is another big disappointment. They say it could have been incredible and instead fails to really entertain. Others say that Warner Bros have finally got it right and that the future for the League looks bright.

My opinion lies somewhere in the middle. The film was by no means a disappointment: It was both exciting and funny to watch. There is something special about watching the heroes from your childhood brought to life on the big screen.     2

However, I will say that a lot more work needs to be done if the producer wants to guarantee success in the future. Although the film was good, it was obvious which scenes had been reshot and how the characters had been changed.     3     These are the kinds of problems that you don’t expect to see in a film with such a big budget.

Another point to add is that it is good to see the producer making Superman a somewhat brighter character and adding some jokes to the plot to add to the fun, though there is , sadly, no post-credits scene(“彩蛋”). The producer must be careful, however, not to make the same mistake as many others in the industry have:making bright and colorful movies with rather poor stores.

Justice League is not a perfect film, but it is definitely not a terrible one.     4    . For me, I hope that DC does not completely lose its darker side.

A.I also have to mention the several scenes in which the special effects were very badly done.
B.There had been worrying news about Justice League in the months before its release.
C.As far as I am concerned, the film is a marvel.
D.Definitely, a lot of work is still to be done.
E.Whether the film will be well received, especially among the young, still remains to be seen.
F.Perhaps that is affecting my opinion.
