Any time you bring people together, you will have more than one opinion instantly on anything. Living in a community, I’ve heard arguments among groups of people over some of the silliest things. It’s human nature that we want others to agree with our point of view. How we     1     (解决) conflicts within a community is important to the long-term success of the community. I’d like to share three tips.

First, respect others. Be careful to debate the issue itself and not the person. You can make     2     (投诉) about what is wrong but you have to be polite to the person. And remember, as a community we have a single common identity.

Second, have     3     (自制力). Don’t let your emotions control your discussion. Avoid being overly dramatic to “win     4     (票数)”. It’s hard to keep this in mind when discussing something you’re deeply keen on, but you have to.

Lastly, work together to     5     (协商) a solution. Compromise is often the result of debates. Don’t expect to always win everyone over to your point of view.

Many parents have probably felt at one time or another that one of their child’s teachers is a “miracle worker”, a teacher who somehow gets results where other teachers have failed. Although the idea of a miracle worker has entered common parlance (用语), the expression     1     (was invented, had invented) by Mark Twain to describe one person in particular. That person was Anne Sullivan, the teacher of Helen Keller.

Anne Sullivan, who     2     (has been, had been) blind for much of the first part of her life, was first employed to teach blind and deaf Helen in 1887, at the age of 20. Helen Keller lived a long life as a successful and inspiring writer, lecturer, and activist. After    1     the firm from his father, Tom    2     some scientific ideas and    3     some experienced and hard-working workers, which suggested that his firm would    4     soon. Tom held the strong belief that his firm would    5     a new look in the near future.

Recently, there is one thing that I can hardly     1     (容忍). That is the noise music coming from a nearby shop. Frankly, I can never tolerate     2     (listen) to such kind of music. That is, it is     3    (我无法忍受). But my mother always tells me that I should be     4    (tolerate) of that noise. Anyway, they need it to attract more customers.

First, I     7    (醒来) early in the morning to do some reading aloud and attempt to learn the basic knowledge by heart. Also, my teachers are ready to assist me with my studies. With their help, it is not long before I make progress and catch up with my classmates. Not long ago, I participated in an Spoken English Contest on     8    (代表) of my class and I held the firm belief that I would     9    (打败) the other competitors. What astonished everybody was that I attained the championship and was     10    (授予) a gold medal. Now, not only do I go all out to study but I often exercise because only in this way can I keep the balance between study and relaxation.
