Our school organized a cross­country running race and     1     (大量学生参与其中). The route which was narrow and rough went from our school gate to the foot of the South Mountain. As hosts, they treated us to desserts. We played together, setting off fireworks, singing and dancing. We did have an enjoyable night. Only then did I know the truth—my family was in need of money. Wrapping my sweaty hands tightly around the bills,     1     (我的心在痛). Shame conquered me as my hands started to tremble. When their little daughter offered me all her snacks, I     6     (非常感动) and words almost failed me. The next day, I posted the story on my blog.

For forty years Jane Goodall, has been    1    (outspeak) about making the rest of the world understand and respect the life of these animals. She has argued that wild animals should be left in the wild and not used for    2    (entertain) or advertisement. She has helped to set up special places    3     they can live safely. Not that Charlie’s own life was easy! He was born in a poor family in 1889. His parents were both poor music hall    5    (perform). You may find    6     astonishing that Charlie was    7    (teach) to sing as soon as he could speak and dace as soon as he could walk.

On a cold, windy day in November, my Granny moved in. Somehow, at that time, I didn’t know that she was sick.

After Granny moved in, she     1     most of her time on the brown sofa by the fire. When I wrote a letter to Father Christmas, she m    2     to help me.

In December, our excitement     3     every day. Granny and I made sugar biscuits, stuffed the turkey and then I sat on my granny’s lap and we sang Christmas songs.

On Christmas Eve, Granny took a seat by the fire as we p    4     the Christmas tree. I hung most of the decorations on the branches. Before bed, Granny and I put a stocking at the end of my bed. I remember Granny sitting on my bed and singing softly until I f    5    .

On Christmas morning, my stocking     6     small toys and sweets. Granny gave me a music box with a ballet dancer inside. After breakfast, my cousin David and I raced around the garden and     7     a big snowball to make a snowman. We p    8     silly paper hats. David put too much pudding in his mouth that he couldn’t     9    . Granny laughed so much that her paper hat fell off.

A few weeks after that Christmas, Granny p    10    . I think of her often though, especially at Christmas. When I think about What makes Christmas so msgical, it’s not just gifts and Father Christmas that come to mind. It’s also my memoty of Granny.
