Born in Huizhou City in 1992,Chan has become    3    (attach) to dance since childhood. However, his parents preferred him to be a doctor or a lawyer in the future. Book club expert Davina Morgan-Witts conducted a survey of thousands of book club members. World Tai Chi & Qigong Day falling on the last Saturday of April is an annual event organized     1     (promote) Tai Chi and Qigong across the world.     2     it started in 1999, the movement has witnessed people in over 80 countries taking part in its celebrations.

The first form of Tai Chi as apractical tradition     3     (document) in Northern China in the 17th century,     4     the most widely recognized form was the “Yang style” spread by Yang Luchan in the 19th century. In the 20th century, Tai Chi’s various methods were standardized, helping it gain     5     (wide) recognition. The event that inspired World Tai Chi & Qigong Day took place in Kansas City, Missouri in 1998, where the local Tai Chi club held a public exhibition     6     (aim) to spread the Chinese martial arts (武术). Gradually, the event     7     (catch) people’s interest, beginning in other American cities and eventually spreading worldwide by 1999.

The goals of the event today are to educate the world about the medical and spiritual benefits both arts offer, and the benefits of including    8     (tradition) Chinese ideas in health, education etc. These are taught through events ranging from educational seminars     9     exhibitions. By doing so, the movement helps encourage     10     (cooperate) that goes beyond geopolitical borders.

Being a foreigner living in China since 2016, I have observed first-hand the country’s rapid     1     (economy) growth, and learned a lot about China’s fight against poverty. I think such     2     admirable programme should be adopted by the world, especially underdeveloped regions.

Caving is the sport of walking and climbing through caves under the ground. It is     1     (true) an adventure sport that takes you to another world. Yoshiko grew up in the 1930s in Berkeley, California. Her parents, both of     1     had been born in Japan, provided a loving and happy home     2    Yoshiko and her sister. They also provided a stream of visitors to their home later     3     (find) their way into Yoshiko’s stories. One visitor who later appeared in several of Yoshiko’s stories was the bad-tempered Mr. Toga, who lived above the church that her family attended. The children all feared him    4     loved to tell stories about how mean he was and how his false teeth rattled when he talked.

Yoshiko also included in her stories some of the places she visited and the experiences she had. One of     5     (she) favorite places was a farm her parents took her to one summer. The owners of the farm showed Yoshiko and her sister how to pump water from the well and how to gather eggs in the henhouse. They fed the mules (骡子) that later pulled a wagon     6     (load) with hay while Yoshiko and the others rode in the back, staring up at the stars shining in the night sky. Yoshiko, who lived in the city, had never seen such     7     sight. AS Yoshiko gazed up at the stars, she was filled with hope and     8     (curious) about her future. The images of that hayride stayed with her long after the summer visit ended. and she used them in several of her stories .

The experiences Yoshiko had and the parade of people who    9     (continue) marched through her young life became a part of the world she created in over twenty books for young people, such as The Best Bad Thing and A Jar of Dreams. Because of such books, we can all share just a little bit of the world and the times in which this great writer     10     (grow)up.

With about half of the vast country covered in wilderness, China is the world’s third most species-rich country. Therefore, China’s     1    (achieve) in biodiversity conservation and wilderness protection are important to the future of global biodiversity conservation.

The vital biodiversity,     2    (combine) with a large population, has led the government to reconsider its protected area system and transform some wilderness areas such as the rainforest in Hainan     3    formal national parks. The Xi’an City Wall,    1    is a symbol of the history and culture of Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, has become an important city brand after continuous improvements.

The Xi’an City Wall    2    (build) in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) on the foundation of the imperial city walls of the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) dynasties. It is the    3    (old), most well preserved, and largest ancient city wall in the world.

The city wall is more than 600 years old and suffers from cracks and flaky (薄片的) soil on a daily basis.
