1 . 将下列几个部分(A、B、C、D 和 E)按题号排序,构成一个符合逻辑的完整语篇。
A. Putting aside employment prospects(就业前景)and the expectations of my parents,   the major I’d most like to study is computer science.
B. What’s more, nowadays the Internet enters every aspect of life. We use the Internet to shop, chat with friends who live far away, and book tickets when we travel. The Internet is so powerful that I doubt that modern life would be possible without it.
C. However, it’s not easy to qualify for the world of IT. Therefore, I am going to put in every effort to achieve the high standard that is required. I firmly believe that one day my dream will be fulfilled.
D. There are a lot of reasons. Firstly, I have been interested in computers since I was a child. I like playing games and drawing pictures using computer software, so I think that a computer science major would allow me to build on this interest.
E. If I do study computer science as my major, after college I want to develop artificial intelligence products. They will undoubtedly meet people’s demand for higher living standards. That’s something that will add real value to my life.
2 . 将下列几个部分(A、B、C、D和E)按题号排序,构成一个符合逻辑的完整语篇。
A.These activities are good ways to think about words. They make the meaning of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.
B.When you see, hear, or read something, it goes first into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory.
C.When you learn a foreign language, you need to remember lots of words. To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short-term and long-term.
D.Your long-term memory is like a very big library with many, many books. And like a library, it’s organized. When you put away a book —or memory—you can’t just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find the word again.
E.How can you do this? The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can write new sentences that include it, or you can invent a little story about the word, with people or places that you know. Another way is to make a picture in your mind with the word. For example, if the word is“height”, you can think of the tallest person you know.

Many people in cities and towns in South America and Asia are at risk from landslides. In April 2017,the city of Mocoa in Colombia was hit by a landslide, leaving many dead and injured. A great number of people live at risk from earthquakes too. These have claimed more than 1.6 million lives in the last hundred years.

Most disaster experts believe that things could get a lot worse. Professor Hou Ming of Peking University studies volcanoes. He warns that the world has not seen the worst yet. The worst eruption in human history was probably Mt Tambora in 1815,in Indonesia. Dust from the volcano rolled across the Earth’s skies. There was no summer in Europe and America the following year. But evidence shows that 73,000 years ago there was a much greater eruption. “It reduced temperatures by maybe 6°C in some places, and the whole planet was sent into winter for years. And there are about two of these events every 100,000 years...”

4 . Today’s world is not an easy adjustment for young adults. A key skill set for success is persistence (毅力), a characteristic that researchers say is heavily influenced by fathers. Researchers from Brigham Young University discovered that fathers are in a unique position to help their adolescent children learn persistence.

BYU professors Laura Padilla-Walker and Randal Day arrived at these findings after following 325 American families over several years. And over time, the persistence gained through fathers led to higher achievement in school.

“There are relatively few studies that stress the unique role of fathers,” Padilla-Walker said. “This research also helps to prove that characteristics such as persistence — which can be taught — are key to a child’s life success.”

Researchers determined that dads need to practice an “authoritative” parenting style. Authoritative parenting is not authoritarian: rigid, demanding or controlling. Rather, an authoritative parenting style includes some of the following characteristics: children feel warmth and love from their father; responsibility and the reasons behind rules are stressed; children are given an appropriate level of autonomy (自主权).

In the study, about 52 percent of the dads exhibited above-average levels of authoritative parenting. A key finding is that over time, children raised by an authoritative father were significantly more likely to develop persistence, which leads to better outcomes in school.

This particular study examined 11 to 14-year-olds living in two-parent homes. Yet the researchers suggest that single parents still may play a role in teaching the benefits of persistence, which is an avenue of future research.

Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Three Characteristics of Authoritative Fathers
B.Key Skills for Young Adults to Succeed in Future
C.Children Tend to Learn Determination from Father
D.Family Relationship Influences School Performance

David was a 14-year-old boy who was very honest and diligent. Recently, he had entered a new school and still had no friends yet. On Monday morning, he was nearly late for school. The night before, his family attended a wedding and reached home late, which contributed to his being late.

All the morning, David could not pay attention to anything and wanted the bell to ring so that he could buy something to eat. After a few hours, when the bell rang, David quickly opened his schoolbag to find his money, but just then he remembered that he had left for school in a hurry in the morning and forgotten to take money. He looked under his books, hoping to find some money but there was nothing.

Not knowing what to do, he walked out of the classroom and sat on a bench in front of the canteen (食堂). He saw a few of his classmates there, among whom was Bill. He was one of the richest kids in his class, but he was a very arrogant boy who thought everyone else was a loser. But as David was new, he didn’t know much about Bill.

When he went towards Bill and asked if he could borrow some money for his lunch, Bill laughed a lot and said,“I knew you were a loser, maybe a beggar?” Bill laughed out so loud that other kids also heard it and made fun of the situation. David didn’t answer Bill, and slowly walked back towards an empty bench.

When he reached the bench, he noticed something lying near it. It was a wallet. He picked it up and recognized it was Bill’s, as he remembered Bill ever showed it to his friends and told them that his uncle had bought it for him as a birthday gift. There was quite a lot of money inside for a kid.

At first, David wanted to keep it a secret and punish Bill.     1     .

Then Bill said: “Why are you giving it back?”     2    .

A.However, it was not easy. A sense of guilt rising inside of him. Glancing first at Bill, who was still chatting happily, and then at the wallet in his hand, David finally made up his mind. He got up and went straight to Bill. Upon seeing David approach him, Bill said, “Hey loser! You okay? Still want money?” “No,” replied David, “I’ve just come to return your wallet which you dropped over there.” Bill stood, shocked. All his friends were silent too.
B.Billy rose at the break of day, hungry and thirsty. She could hear water trickling somewhere at a distance. Quickly she followed the sound to a stream. To her great joy, she also saw some berry bushes. She drank and ate a few berries. Never in her life had she tasted anything better. Feeling stronger now, Billy began to walk along the stream and hope it would lead her to the lake.
C.“Honesty matters.” explained David directly. Bill tried to avoid David’s shining eyes. What followed was an awkwardly (尴尬地) long silence, eventually ending with David’s stomach growling (腹鸣) loudly. Surprisingly, the arrogant boy reached out his hand and said, “What about having lunch together?” Before David could say anything, Bill quickly added, “Of course, my treat.” It was on that very day that David made his first friend in the new school, and he truly recognized the value of sincerity and honesty in a relationship.
D.If only Billy had not left her mobile phone in that bag with David. Billy kept moving, but the farther she walked, the more confused she became. As night was beginning to fall, Billy was so tired that she had to stop for the night. Lying awake in the dark, Billy wanted very much to be with David and her family. She wanted to hold him and tell him how much she loved him.
