Peter must be dancing, shaking the whole room. Is at up suddenly and shouted out to my little brother above me, “Stop shaking the bed, would you?”In the meantime, he was saying, “It’s not me. It’s you.”
Seconds later, Mum rushed into our room with an extra worried face and a crying baby in her arms, screaming to us to run out of the house. By then I found things were flying everywhere. The room was shaking like a “jelly (果冻)”. The bookshelf fell on the ground.“What’s happening?”I was thinking. Peter was too scared to move. All of a sudden, I completely woke up and realized what was going on was the first earthquake I had ever experienced in my life. I grabbed a blanket from the bed, dragged Peter down, and left on foot in a flash.
In a second, I was shirtless and shoeless in the street with my neighbors, being thrown back and forth by the ground that seemed to turn to liquid. The tremble I felt from beneath the earth was like a truck passing or the subway moving underneath. The house swung and twisted as if it were made of paper. As we all stood in the street, some tried to call their family and friends but the networks broke down, and they couldn’t get through to anyone. People were hugging each other, anxiously trying to reach their loved ones or weeping in panic.
The chaos and noise kept growing when we sensed the smell of gas floating in the air. A woman in the crowd pointed to the front gate of a small house with a courtyard and a gated entrance. Obviously, it was close to collapsing, as glass and pieces of concrete rained down on the sidewalk. “Shut the gas and turn off the electricity. There’s a leak!”shouted the woman. It was our house. Mom must have been cooking just then and forgot the gas when the earthquake struck.

7 . Are you consciously designing your life? Do you really understand what that means and how to do it? This matters because when online marketers are selling their services or products, they’ll give you the time and financial freedom.
Get clear on what you want. At the core of designing your life is the question of what you actually want and what will help you wake up excited to live every day.
Create a plan. Think about your life like a beautiful work of architecture. A bunch of builders didn’t just walk out there one day and start throwing things together in the hope that something nice would turn out.
Be flexible and open-minded. Even when there is a plan in place, those who live the most fulfilled and joyful lives are those who are flexible and open-minded to change and new opportunities.
A.Say“no”more often. |
B.Then you need to create your “life by design”. |
C.There exists a culture where “no” has a negative suggestion. |
D.To achieve this, you have to make it clear what you exactly want. |
E.Many aspects of your life are constantly developing and changing. |
F.Be like the architect and take the time to create the plan before you start. |
G.Instead, they did the dull work of mapping out every single detail of that structure. |
8 . Researchers at Oregon State University have made a key advance in seeking for the green chemistry of changing the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide in toreusable forms of carbon by electrochemical reduction.
Published in Nature Energy, the study led by Zhenxing Feng of the OSU College of Engineering and colleagues at Southern University of Science and Technology in China and Stanford University describes anew type of electrocatalyst(电催化剂).
“The reduction of carbon dioxide is beneficial for a clean environment and sustainable development,” said Feng, assistant professor of chemical engineering.“In contrast to traditional CO2reduction that uses chemical methods at high temperatures with a high demand of extra energy, electrochemical CO2reductionreactions can be performed at room temperature using liquid solution. And the electricity required for electrochemical CO2 reduction can be obtained from renewable energy sources such as solar power, thus enabling completely green processes.”
“To understand the reaction mechanism of our catalyst, my group at OSU used X-ray absorption spectroscopy(光谱学) to monitor the catalyst’s change during the reaction processes, confirming the role of the catalyst in the reaction,” Feng said.“This collaborative work demonstrates a high-perform an cecatalyst for green processes of electrochemical CO2reduction reactions. It also shows the reaction mechanism of our catalyst, which can guide the future development of energy change devices as we work toward a negative-carbon economy.”
The National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Catalysis, Oregon State University, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratory for Photonic-Thermal-Electrical Energy Materialsand Devices supported this research.
Maoyu Wang and Marcos Lucero of OSU were among the collaborators, who also included scientists from Yale University, North western University and the Argonne National Laboratory.
