2 . Ask any kid what they dislike the most in their study routine, and they will answer, “homework.”
Setting the right workspace
Setting the perfect working environment is of outmost importance. That’s why you should make sure to separate places for playing and studying to prevent your kid from switching between them.
Once you set a spot, it is time to prepare to do the assignment. Remember: you want your kid to be focused. Therefore, the first thing to do is make everything necessary to complete the task within arm’s reach. Make sure your kid can access any note or textbook without leaving the workspace.
Unlike adults, kids are very active. And while the former can remain focused for around half an hour, children’s attention span(时长) is much shorter than that. That’s why it is essential to set up a work schedule to maintain concentration.
With that being said, however long your kid’s working time is, remember to include several breaks.
Understanding teachers’ expectations
Usually, educators assign tricky and challenging tasks on purpose, because they want students to use and develop their skills.
Whether you guide your kid through the writing process, it is important to understand the task before working on it.

7 . Every year, workers put up a big, freshly cut evergreen tree in a historic building in Asbury Park, New Jersey to celebrate Christmas. But recently workers put up a very different kind of Christmas Tree instead.
Unlike an evergreen, it requires little care and can never die. That is because the 2021 Christmas Tree is made wholly of a thick and strong paper material called cardboard. When the winter holidays end, the “tree” is to be recycled. The piece uses natural and artificial lighting to darken parts of the tree while shining light on others. In this way, the piece’s appearance changes throughout the day. The tree’s creators sought to honor elements of Asbury Park’s natural environment, cityscape and rich musical history.
Opinions on the tree are mixed. “I like that it’s different…It’s pretty interesting,” said local man Chris Trifari. Local Elizabeth Khimitch offered similar praise. “I think it’s very creative.” She had come to the Grand Arcade to take pictures of her dogs in front of the tree. Others on the boardwalk were not as pleased by the tree. Antony Solimando said it looked like “an Amazon package.” “Can’t we just have our traditional tree?” added Amy Mackey.
Michael Lavallee, a local artist who goes by the name Porkchop, created the piece with Brad Hoffer. They call it The Giving Tree. He said the company told him there would not be a natural Christmas tree at Convention Hall this year. “I was asked to come in and do something festive-ish,” said Porkchop. Festive means celebratory, especially in connection with a holiday.
Amy Quinn is Asbury Park’s deputy mayor. Quinn said the city is not involved in the Convention Hall decisions, but that she likes the piece. She said, “I love that it’s different. Love it or hate it, people are talking about it. ”

8 . You go out for a meal. You scan a QR code to order the food, but it asks for your phone number. You ride in a taxi, and your addresses are leaked. You go back home and are asked to look into a facial recognition camera. Data collection is everywhere.
However, the personal information collected by companies can be leaked for marketing or used for communications fraud. According to a 2018 survey of 5,458 people by the China Consumers Association, 85.2 percent of people said they had experienced personal information leaks from applications on their smart phones. Most said they got unwanted calls or text messages afterward.
On Nov 1, the personal information protection law came into effect in China. The law defines personal information as any kind of information about people who are or can be identified, in electronic or other forms. So a person’s name, date of birth, ID number, address and phone number are all personal information.
According to the law, activities such as collecting, using, processing and trading of personal information will be strictly regulated. One key rule is that those handling personal information should inform users and get permission. For sensitive information, such as fingerprints, faces, religious beliefs, medical health, financial accounts and all data relating to minors under 14, there are stricter rules on related activities.
Protection of personal information of online platform users is especially stressed. According to a report released in June on Internet development in China, the country has more than one billion Internet users and 60 percent of surveyed applications had collected users’ information illegally.
Many apps would collect users’ information even when the app was not in use. They could access the phone-book, photos, turn on the microphone and get the users’ location. That’s why protection of personal information is needed, according to Zhou Hanhua, a researcher with the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

There is no school equal to a decent (体面的) home and no teacher equal to a virtuous parent.
There are two typical examples: Edison’s mother and our mother. As you all know, Thomas Edison is one of the most outstanding scientists and inventors in the world. Unbelievably, young Tom was in school for only three months. It is said that he liked to ask strange questions, many of which have nothing to do with learning. His teacher didn’t understand why he had so many strange questions. He didn’t want to teach Tom any more. He asked Tom’s mother to take the boy home. Tom’s mother taught him to read and write, and she found him to be a very good pupil. He learned very fast and became very interested in science. It was she who played an important role in Edison’s growth. Although we can’t compare with Edison, our mother played a more important role in our growth than his mother. Our dad was an English teacher who taught high school students. For many years, he had been cautious and conscientious (认真的) towards work. Mom stayed home and homeschooled their four children. Three of us had no trouble in learning but my sister Catherine still could not read by fifth grade, and worse still, did not even know the alphabet (字母表).
My mother did some research and found that Catherine had some sort of learning disability. She sent Catherine to a public school to get some help. Catherine made many friends at school and amazed everyone with her gift for telling creative stories in class, but she still couldn’t master reading skills. After all the testing was done, the school had my parents come in. They were told that based on the test results, they should just take Catherine home, which was very similar to Edison’s experience. However, the biggest difference is that Edison was not stupid, and my sister really had learning disabilities.
