2 . We have all experienced the force of gravity. It is what happens to you when you jump up into the air. Disappointingly, we tend to fall right back down to the ground. But what if we could switch gravity off? What will happen if the gravity vanishes?

Buckey, an astronomer, says that our bodies are adapted to an Earth-like gravitational environment. If we spend time living where gravity is different, such as on board a space station, our bodies change.

It is now an established fact that astronauts lose bone mass and muscle strength in space, and their sense of balance changes due to the absence of gravity. There are also other problems. For reasons not entirely clear, their red blood cell count falls. Wounds take longer to heal and the immune system loses its strength. Even sleep is disturbed if gravity is weak or absent.

That is just what happens after a short visit to space. “What if you were to grow up without gravity?” Buckey asks. “What about the systems that depend on gravity like your muscles, or your balance system, or your heart and blood vessels?” There is good reason to believe the human body would develop differently.

Karen Masters has explored the immediate physical consequences of losing gravity. The first problem is that Earth is rotating at high speed. Earth’s atmosphere and its oceans, rivers and lakes would be one of the first things to drift away into space. A lack of gravity would eventually destroy our very planet, writes Masters. “Earth itself would most likely break apart into pieces and float off into space.”

A similar fate would happen to the Sun. Without the force of gravity to hold it together, the intense pressures at its core would cause it to burst open in an explosion. The same thing would happen to all the other stars in the Universe. However, because they are so far away, it would be years before the light from their death reached you.

1. What effects will the lack of gravity have on astronauts?
A.Their sense of balance will lose.B.Their immune system won’t work.
C.Their wound will no longer heal.D.Their red blood cell count will decrease.
2. What will happen if gravity stops working according to Karen Masters?
A.Human body on Earth will develop differently.
B.Earth will rotate at its highest speed.
C.Atmosphere and water on Earth will travel away into space.
D.Earth will break down into pieces and float off into space.
3. What may happen to the Sun after we lose gravity?
A.It will hold the Universe together.
B.The pressure of its core may lead to its burst.
C.The light from its death will reach Earth quickly.
D.Its core will drift away into space.
4. Where can we most probably read the passage?
A.In a science magazine.
B.In a guidebook.
C.In a short story.
D.In an environment report.

7 . When the world responded to the COVID-19 epidemic with broad lockdown orders, home delivery services lacked the manpower to keep up with the explosion in demand. Stores and companies went on doing the hiring; in some areas, it was very hard to get goods delivered.

You know what might have made things a bit easier? Drones. It has taken years for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to allow the use of unmanned aerial devices for commercial delivery. Over the course of a decade, we've gone from a complete ban to slow, heavily regulated, and restricted initial testing.

At the end of August 2020, the FAA finally gave Amazon approval for its Prime Air drone delivery fleet. It did that by classifying Amazon as an "air carrier" and making it obey some relatively recent regulations intended to facilitate drone deliveries.

The FAA's rules initially required that private drones remain in sight of the operator at all times. That simply won't work for delivery services. So in 2019, the agency introduced a special certification process that would allow approved pilots to operate drones across much longer distances.

Amazon will now be able to join Google in drone deliveries. The company revealed that its fleet can carry packages weighing up to 5 pounds and deliver them within a 15-mile range in less than 30 minutes. The FAA also recently granted the company Zipline, a temporary waiver allowing it to deliver medical supplies in North Carolina. Zipline had been operating for some time in Africa. But the United States continues to fall behind both developed and developing nations in giving drone companies the freedom to test their services.

While Amazon still faces several technical problems and strict regulations, it's great that the government is giving it this new room to move. Too bad it took the feds this long to allow it, especially as the pandemic made drone deliveries not just an innovation, but something we could have used yesterday.

1. What can be inferred from Paragraph 2?
A.Drones are the most convenient aerial devices.
B.The use of drones was completely banned at first.
C.It took a short time to allow the use of drones.
D.FAA allows drones to serve for the army.
2. According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.Home delivery services were in great demand because of the COVID-19 epidemic.
B.Rules for private drones also works for delivery services.
C.Amazon's pilots were allowed to operate drones across much longer distances until 2020.
D.America took the lead in giving drone companies the freedom to test their services.
3. What's Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.The companies allowed to use drone delivery.B.Amazon joining in drone deliveries.
C.Drone deliveries used in medical service.D.Zipline operating in Africa and America.
4. What's the author's attitude toward Amazon's drone delivery?
A.Neutral.B.Negative.C.Favorable.D.Indifferent.

9 . The problem of global warming has caused a lot of people to get started on increasing their battles to save the Earth's ecological system. The trouble is that nearly all people think it even expensive to begin living green. Continue reading to see several immediate things you can do to get on the road to living green.

You can get on a great start by learning to recycle. While this appears really simple, there are many people who still throw glass bottles and aluminum(铝)cans into their common garbage. In the US, it's easy to locate a trash service that has glass and aluminum recycling alternatives. If you take a few seconds to wash the cans and bottles and put them in the recycle bin, you will be on the path to saving the Earth.

One more big waste product is newspapers. Majority of people will merely take their newspaper and throw it in the garbage when they finish reading it. Still there are many other things you can do with an old newspaper when you finish reading it. For instance, newspapers make terrific material for cleaning windowpanes. You can clean your windows with newspapers rather than paper towels and window cleaner for a streak-free shine.

What else you can do to get started living green is to start walking a bit more. Many people think nothing of getting in their car and driving one block to get soda at the local convenience store. If you merely walk to the store, not only could it take less time, because you won't have to try to find a parking place, but you will be saving money on petrol and helping to save the planet by not burning those fuels. If you wish to save even more on fuel, take the chance to join the car pool whenever you can and just mow your lawn twice a month instead of weekly.

1. What is the main purpose of Paragraph 1?
A.To tell us that many people are living green.
B.To express worries about global warming.
C.To call on people to live an easy life.
D.To advise people to learn how to live green.
2. The author thinks that________.
A.many people can't recycle glass bottles properly
B.cans and bottles are usually washed before recycled
C.it is rather difficult to recycle cans and bottles
D.people would like to throw the wastes everywhere
3. The underlined phrase "car pool" in the last paragraph probably refers to__________.
A.a pool where cars can park
B.a good way to avoid traffic jams
C.a group of people sharing the same car
D.an organization to protect the environment
4. What is the main idea of the passage?
A.It may cost us much more to live a green life.
B.Going green is much simpler than people think.
C.A lot of things can be reused in our life.
D.People are living a much better life than before.
