3 . Carlos, a businessman, is tall, with a lively, open face. His son Paco isn’t as tall as his father, but his long arms and legs suggest he’ll still grow taller. Whenever Paco isn’t concentrating on his smartphone, he can be seen in scuba gear. It is through this hobby that he bonds with his dad.
Paco, who is 14, is the second oldest among Carlos’ children: Javier, 21, Adriana, 10, and Carolina, 6. “I try to find common ground between me and my kids. I find something we all have in common, and then go from there,” says Carlos. “It’s all different with each of them. My eldest doesn’t like diving like Paco. So, for example, if they like games, I approach talking with them through their games, and then go from there. It’s just being there for them, listening to them, and knowing their problems and anxieties. You just need to let them know you’re there for them.”
For Carlos and Paco, it was diving, a hobby that the former started in 1997 when his dad bought a boat and decided to buy scuba gear for the whole family. “I got certified with my brother Richie. It was an on and off thing with diving,” Carlos shares. “Three years ago, I learned that Paco wanted to study how to dive as well, which gave me a reason to go back to diving.”
“We even got certified for the advanced open water course together. That’s how committed we are to diving,” Carlos says. “Hanging out with my dad is really fun because we get to create a lot of memories. Also, he always lets me have as much food as I want, so that’s a plus,” Paco adds. The two then talked about some of their best trips together when diving. “The most unforgettable one for me was our five-day Visayan live-aboard dive trip. The sights were excellent, and it was three dives a day, so we went underwater to our heart’s content. What else could I ask for?” says Carlos.

5 . There are many friends that will come into your life-some will gradually lose touch, some will be getting closer, and some you will actively choose not to be friends with.
From old friends we learn how much we grow.
The sense of freedom that comes with old friends is new friends failing to bring. You don’t need to make a good impression with people who know you well.
With old friends, you realize true friendships are difficult to create, to cultivate, and to hold onto.
Old friends hold a mirror in front of us and allow us to see how far we’ve gone, and how far we still have to go to achieve our goals.

At 76 years old, Melanie felt tired all the time. It had nothing to do with her age, though. 14 years ago, her son, Anthony, died in a plane crash. After a long-time search, the rescuers said there were no survivors and no hope for the victims’ families.
Luckily, Melanie had Anthony’s son, Mark, and his wife, Kayla, to get her by. But it wasn’t the same. She missed Anthony and often felt hopeless about life. Her son died at a young age. He left a baby, and Kayla had not recovered from his death either.
One day at home, when watching the news on TV, Melanie and Kayla were suddenly surprised by what they were seeing. A news reporter was talking beside a man who looked like Anthony. He seemed older than he had ever been. The news caused great excitement. “It must be him!” Melanie and Kayla both said happily.
“If you recognize this man, please call the number on the screen. Recently, a vague (模糊的)memory of having a plane crash hit this man’s mind. But he still doesn’t remember anything before the crash 14 years ago near the Canary Islands. Authorities now have reason to believe that there was a mistake in the previous report that the crash left no survivors…”
When the news ended, Kayla called the number immediately. She told the attendant that she believed the man was her husband Anthony and provided details. Kayla also asked for more information about what had happened over the past 14 years since the accident. The attendant said, “14 years ago, some local fishermen found him who lost his memory. They offered him a job, and he has worked and lived with one of them since then.”
This attendant then told Anthony that his family were waiting for him to go home. Weeks later, Anthony went to the city where Melanie and Kayla lived. All the family members were waiting at the airport. Finally, the gates opened, and people were coming out.

9 . Most people can’t live to 100.Those who do live so long can hardly walk, let alone take part in any activities. A few people, however, take part in dangerous activities even though they are more than 100 years old﹣They keep going and going! There is a great grandmother who likes challenging herself although she is 101 years old this year.
Mary Hardison believes that people should always be cheerful and more importantly, take on all kinds of adventures while they physically still can. So, instead of celebrating her 101st birthday with a boring party, she decided to go paragliding(滑翔跳伞)﹣an idea she got from her 75﹣year﹣old son who recently took it up as a hobby.
So on her birthday, cheered on by her big family, she tied herself up together with expert instructor Kevin Hintze, and jumped down fearlessly from the sky near her home in Ogden, Utah. And, it was not just a simple jump either. According to Kevin Hintze, the grandmother encouraged him to turn around, as they made their way down.
This is not the first time that Mary has done something “wild” and “crazy”. For her 90th birthday she rode all the adult rides at Disneyland. And, she is not done yet﹣For her 102nd birthday she hopes to go down the 3,000 feet Alpine Slide at Utah’s Park City Mountain Resort!
Not surprisingly, this great action has made Mary Hardison very famous and also earned her a place in the Guinness World Records where she broke a 2007 record set by a 100﹣year﹣old British woman. What an amazing lady!
