文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了如何在日常生活中实施感恩。

1 . How to Practice Gratitude (感激) in Your Daily Life

Gratitude is a positive emotion. Learning how to practice it is an effort to remind yourself of the good in life and to show an internal appreciation for yourself and others.     1    . Whichever exercise you do, it’s vital to remember the elements of gratitude: the awareness of the good things, expressing gratitude to yourself and giving thanks to people you’re grateful for.

Create a gratitude list. The intense stress of life can get you so caught up that we may fail to recognize the positive events or interactions we encounter on a daily basis.     2    . It can also help you picture the biggest and smallest moments that make your day.

3    . Expressing your gratitude to those you’re grateful for strengthens your relationship with them. Plus, bonding with family and friends is a simple act that can help you feel gratitude for these relationships. Sharing kindness will make you feel happier and healthier. In turn, those benefits get passed along to those you most care about.

Make a gratitude jar (罐). Make the jar fun and personable by decorating it and placing it where you can always see it. Every day, write down what you’re grateful for on a slip of paper and put it in the jar.     4    . Whenever there’s a moment of doubt or sadness, return to the jar and read a few notes to remind yourself of who and what is good in your life.

In conclusion, engaging in daily gratitude exercises can make a great difference. Showing gratitude helps you connect with positive emotions, focus on acknowledging the good, and shift your focus to positive aspects of life.     5    .

A.Share your gratitude with others
B.Seek out opportunities to help others
C.There are several gratitude activities and exercises
D.As you fill it, it serves as a good reminder of good times
E.It is better to keep track of whatever happens in your life
F.You’ll also harvest the greatest rewards when it becomes a habit
G.Writing down the positive moments helps put life into a better perspective

My parents grew up poor. But as a family, we were comfortable, though we didn’t have much what would be considered luxuries. One year, my father went on a trip to Italy and brought my mother an opal ring. It was her favorite stone, and she cherished that ring. It represented Dad’s love for her.

Dad died at the age of 53 in 1980 after a grueling battle with cancer. Mom was working at Burlington Coat Factory Department store. She usually wore the ring to work. Over the years, the ring became impossible for my Mom to wear because of her swollen knuckles (指关节). I had the ring fitted with a clasp so that Mom could wear it again. She took great pride in the frequent compliments as she got on that ring.

One day during her shift, the ring slipped off. She didn’t realize it until the following day. Mom was sad. The ring did not have a high monetary value, but it meant as much to her as life itself. I decided to go and look for it.

I encountered Chloe, one of my Mom’s co-workers at my Mom’s workplace. She led me to the store where Mom worked, and then left. It was packed with clothes, racks and tables. I started row by row crawling on the floor to see if I could find the ring underneath all the clothes. When I got to the last row and hadn’t found the ring, the thought occurred to me that it might have fallen into the pocket of a coat as my Mom was hanging or rearranging the clothes. I started feeling around in the pockets of some of the coats, but quickly abandoned. There were at least 20,000 pieces of clothing in that department. The attempt seemed useless.

Hunger

When I was a young boy, my mother would place spoonfuls of vegetables onto my plate whether I wanted them or not and the rule in our family was that we always had to clean our plates. However, I rarely saw my mother eat the vegetables herself. She always served us first. She seemed never hungry.

She worked for a rich lady in town, and I always assumed that the reason why she didn’t have our tasteless meals was that she had eaten meats and sweets in the rich lady’s kitchen. Our meals were boring, and there was never enough since there were ten of us — my parents plus eight children.

One afternoon my older sisters were sick, so they couldn’t take care of me. Therefore, my mother had no choice but to bring me with her. It was a long winter day and as my father hadn’t had much work, we had even less food than usual. So I was very excited to go to the rich woman’s house.

My mother placed me in a corner while she rolled out pie crust (饼皮). Then she cooked some meat, and by the afternoon, the pleasant smell filled the kitchen and was making its way into my empty stomach. Then, a bell rang in the kitchen and my mother told me, “Don’t move” and then left.

I tried to do as told, but then I thought it wouldn’t matter if I ate just one blackberry. So I put a single blackberry into my mouth. What an explosion of flavor! The wonderful taste hitting my empty stomach was more than I could handle! Soon I was throwing blackberries into my mouth with two hands! It wasn’t until I was staring at the empty bowl that I noticed the empty, unbaked pie crust sitting on the table waiting for the berries. I looked around for more berries, but there was none. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching, so I quickly hid into the cupboard (碗柜).

4 . For many people, worrying is their life. They’re also anxious over things. They are anxious for family, friends, relatives and mankind. They fret(烦恼) about the past, the present and the future. I was once one of those people. Here’s some advice on how to stop worrying.

Let there be no crisis before its time. Don’t worry about something that’ll take place in a week, a day or even an hour. The variables( 可变因素) will be different then. If you’ve to make a decision on Friday, wait until Friday. Squash(压制) unnecessary worrying with one question. If the answer is “no”, stay in the present moment, write the thought quickly and then let it go.

Don’t let possessions possess you. Don’t let objects rule you. Don’t give them the power to spoil your day. Worrying over a problem after the fact can’t restore or bring anything back. The less you have, the less anxiety you bring into your life.

Set worry limits. If you can’t get worry under control right away, then establish limits. Set a timer or a watch alarm for 15 minutes. When the time is up, the alarm will be a tangible(切实的) reminder to let the worry go. Schedule this time when you’ve something important to do, so you’ll have to drop worry and refocus fast. Worrying is a choice, and you can choose not to do it.

Don’t control others with your worries. Worrying about loved ones wastes lots of time and opens up the door to permanent estrangement(疏远). Let people be who they are. Stop forcing others to do what will make you feel better, instead of what they want. Don’t manipulate(操纵) them into eating what you want them to eat, going where you want them to go, or doing what you want them to do under the guise(伪装) of love. Give people credit for having half a brain and knowing what’s good or bad for them. You’ll cut your worrying in half.
