1 . Neighbors play an important role in our lives. Their lifestyle, friends, and social habits can have a strong influence on our lives.   So it's a good idea to get along well with neighbors and build a better relationship that will last for many years to come.   But how should you get along with your neighbors?

When you hear of a special need you can meet, do it, such as sitting with a sick child while your neighbor goes to work or taking an elderly parent to a doctor's appointment when their car won't start.

If you hear that someone close by is ill, has an accident, or is out of work, give him or her a hot meal or a fresh dessert. Your kindness will add a special feeling during a difficult time.   If your neighbor is cutting down a tree or building a doghouse, offer helping hands to him or her.   There is no better way to build relationships.   Besides, you never know when the favor might be returned.

Exchange holiday cards, gifts or traditions.   Invite your neighbors over for a cup of coffee or lunch.   A backyard barbecue can be a great way to share food and fun.   If they've watched your kids grow up or been concerned about your family events, they may want to share these special events.

Plan a party.   Invite all your neighbors to your party.   Planning and carrying out the activity helps everyone to know and understand each other. Your neighbors are like your family in many ways since you have to live with them, or near them for a long time.   Appreciate their strong points and ignore weak points, and everyone will get along well.

3 . A Few Active Listening Guidelines

Listening is probably the most important element of interpersonal communication. Our

ability to listen affects the quality of all of our relationships, and not just at home with our family and friends――it can also affect our relationships and interactions(交流) on the job, as well as the effectiveness and quality of our work。

Listening is not something that comes naturally or easily for most of us.    1    Active listening means the difference between simply hearing, and listening with the intention to truly understand. It is a subtle but important distinction.

1. Give focused attention

Try to minimize outside disturbance. Turn down the noise, and put down or step away from what you're doing if possible.    2    Don't watch the clock, keep moving your hands or go over your to-do list for later.

2. Keep eye contact

Direct eye contact shows your attention and intention to listen.    3    Be reasonable, but try not to let your eyes wander to whatever is going on around you.

3. Reflect back

Restate, but don t repeat word for word. Paraphrase (解释) what you think the other part Is saying with responses such as: "What I'm hearing is ."or"Let me see if I'm following you……"    4

4. Respond appropriately.

5    Share your thoughts, comprehension and fee lings in a clear, but respectful and considerate manner even if you disagree.

Active listening is a model for good communication. Remember that listening is not just to gather information and share ideas, but also to gain viewpoints and understanding. It takes practice to develop active listening skills, and it's a habit that has to be strengthened. Remind yourself that the goal of conversation is not merely to trade words, but to truly understand what the other party is saying and to be understood in turn.

A.Focus on what is being said.
B.This doesn't mean stare, though.
C.Be open and honest in your responses.
D.You do not have to agree on everything.
E.Instead, it is a skill that must be developed and practiced.
F.Also, set aside other thinking and dialogue inside your head.
G.Reflecting what you' re heard signals that you're attempting to understand fully.
