1 . Shopping therapy (疗 法)is the practice of using the shopping experience to help overcome depression or other emotional problems.     1     Actually, it really works.

2     One of the most obvious things is the enjoyment people get from the items they buy. When people shop, they often buy things they really care about on some level. For example, when people come home with a new shirt or a new computer, they assume that the item is going to improve their lives in some way. This can help reduce many feelings of unhappiness.

3     Some experts think humans are linked with the need to constantly achieve and fight for improvement. People make a decision to buy something, and then actually follow through this plan. This is one way people can take action to directly change their own lives for the better.

People who don't actually have any money to buy things still benefit from shopping therapy. For them, simply browsing (浏览)can be a nice experience. That's because it helps them form future shopping plans.     4

The simple act of leaving home and spending time around other humans is another possible reason for the effectiveness of shopping therapy.     5     Many people even use shopping as a specific social activity by bringing friends along with them and turning the process into a pleasant one.

A.So why not shop until you start feeling better?
B.So how do people benefit from shopping therapy?
C.These plans offer great expectation and hope in their life.
D.Many people shop for this reason without even realizing it.
E.People can have the feeling of achievement after shopping.
F.Many people have gone into debt due to shopping addiction.
G.There is sometimes a sense of community in the shopping experience.

2 . Most of us struggle through the time it takes to get a cup of coffee to our lips once our alarms go off. Luckily, this coffee-brewing alarm clock could make those few struggling minutes practically disappear.

An alarm clock that brews a fresh pot of coffee as soon as you wake up actually exists, and you can buy it right now. Thanks to the Barisieur, your morning time will never be the same.

Here’s how it works: Before you go to bed, fill the glass container with water and pour ground coffee into the filter (过滤器). Not a black coffee drinker?

Not to worry --- special drawers keep your cream cold and store your sugar, too.

Then, just set your alarm and go to sleep. This machine will take care of the rest.

A few minutes before your alarm goes off next morning, the Barisieur will begin to brew your coffee. And voila! A hot cup of coffee is waiting for you when your alarm rings and you open your eyes. You won’t even have to leave your bed.

London designer Joshua Renouf designed this invention himself, raising over $500,000 through donations on IndieGoGo. Coffee lovers should act fast and put in a pre-order on the website now, paying just $300. Otherwise, you have to wait until it hits stores and pay $420.

Owning one of these clocks will be totally worth it. Nothing says “seize the day” quite like waking up to a pot of freshly brewed coffee, after all. Also, the machine isn’t limited to making coffee only in the morning. You can go out and return home with a hot cup of coffee waiting for you.

4 . Hi Judy!

You often complain to me that you always buy goods unreasonably on sale promotion(促销)and feel it shameful after going back to your school dormitory with new things not needed, considering all the money you spend is your parents’ income.

In fact, this is a common phenomenon, called impulsive buying, a buying unplanned and hard to control. It usually happens when a store offers discounts(打折)or sales promotion—a special way used by stores to get more customers, which means you may fall into its traps even without notice.

Stores, with a good knowledge of customers’ psychology(心理), make use of it to drive business. Avoiding all the impulsive buying is a hard thing. However, knowing our psychology behind it and reducing the times when influenced by sales promotion may be useful. So you should keep calm when facing the sales promotion by keeping in mind what you really need.

Find out the conditions where you are likely to buy things blindly. When seeing a dress advertised at 20% off, do not concentrate on the discount, but warn yourself against falling into the trap of “saving money’’.

Besides, do not forget the long-term effects of your choice when meeting a sales promotion. Short-term benefits, like excited feeling just after buying items encourage impulsive buying. But the long-term costs such as waste of money and the sense of shame really annoy you. When seeing the advertisements, remember what you really want to buy originally and warn yourself of that terrible feeling. Only in this way can you save money for really needed things.

Yours,

Rachel

5 . Shorts may feel nice and casual on your legs on a warm summer’s day, but they’re not so gentle on your wallet.     1     Usually the fact that one obviously uses less cloth than the other makes it hard to be accepted So what gives?

It turns out clothing sellers aren’t trying to cheat you by charging you too much money. They’re just pricing shorts according to what it costs to produce them.    2     Extra material does go into a full pair of pants but not as much as you may think. As experts explain, shorts that don’t fall past your knees may contain just a fifth less cloth than ankle-length trousers.    3

Those same details that end up accounting for most of the material—pockets, belt loops, waist bands—also require the most human labor to make.    4     The physical cotton in blue jeans accounts for just a small part of its price Jag. Most of that money goes to pay the people stitching (缝合) it together, and they put in roughly the same amount of time whether they’re working on a pair of pants or some shorts.

5     For another example, short-sleeved shirts cost roughly the same as long-sleeved shirts. There are also numerous invisible factors that make some shorts more expensive than nearly identical pairs, like where they were made9marketing costs, and the brand on the label. If you don’t want to spend $40 on something that covers just a small piece of leg, stay at home with your wallet!

A.More or less, shorts almost cost what pants do.
B.This is where the true cost of a garment is determined.
C.This price trend becomes popular across the fashion field.
D.This is because most of the cloth is sewn into the top half.
E.In general, a pair of shorts isn’t any cheaper than a pair of pants.
F.To tell you the truth, it is a real bargain to pay for a pair of shorts.
G.Customers are willing to purchase a pair of shorts if it is at a reasonable price.

6 . Shopping for clothes is not the same experience for a man as it is for a woman. A man goes shopping because he needs something. All men simply walk into a shop and ask the assistant for what they want. If the shop has it in stock, the salesman immediately finds it, and the business of trying it on follows at once. All being well, the deal can be and often is completed inless than five minutes.
For a man, small problems may begin when the shop doesn't have what he wants. In that case, thesalesman, tries to sell the customer something else. "I know this jacket is not the style you want, sir, but would you like to try it for size? It happens to be thecolour you mentioned. "Few men have patience with this treatment, and the usual response is: "This is the right colour and may be the right size, but I should be wasting my time and yours by trying it on."
However, a woman in almost every respect she does so in the opposite way. Her shopping is not often based on needand she is only "having a look around". She is always open to persuasion; indeed she _________ what the saleswoman tells her. She will try on any number ofthings. Most women have an excellent sense of value when they buy clothes. They are always on the lookout for the unexpected bargain. Faced with a roomful of dresses, a woman may easily spend an hour going from one room to another, often retracing her steps, before selecting the dresses she wants to try on. It is a laborious process, but apparently an enjoyable one. Most dress shops provide chairs for the waiting husbands.

9 . Still seeking a destination for your weekend break? There are some places which are probably a mere wall away from your college.
King’s Art Centre
A day at the Centre could mean a visit to an exhibition of the work of one of the most interesting contemporary artists on show anywhere. This weekend sees the opening of an exhibition of four local artists.
You could attend a class teaching you how to ‘learn from the masters’ or get more creative with paint – free of charge.

It is also said that on occasion Byron swam naked by moonlight in the lake, which is now known as Byron’s Pool.A couple of miles past Grantchester in the south Cambridgeshire countryside, the pool is surrounded by beautiful circular paths around the fields. The cries of invisible birds make the trip a lovely experience and on the way home you can drop into the village for afternoon tea.If you don’t trust me, then perhaps you’ll take it from Virginia Woolf – over a century after Byron, she reportedly took a trip to swim in the same pool.
