4 . A self-driving bus, made by CRRC Electric Vehicle Co Ltd, performed a trial run in Paris, France. Smart electric buses made in China are scheduled to start regular passenger services on open roads in autumn next year.

Demand for environmentally friendly public transport vehicles is rising in many parts of the world, especially in Europe. The company put a 12-meter-long self-driving bus on a trial run in Paris last week. The autonomous vehicle cleared a 6-kilometer route in southeast Paris on Friday. In about 40 minutes, the bus passed 26 traffic lights and 10 bus stops.

Benjamin Joliviere, a French engineer, said the results of the trial were "more than positive". It was the first time in France that a self-driving bus ran on a regular bus route.

Francois Yann, a bus driver, sat in the driver's seat during the trial run. "Once we had done the training and saw the vehicle in operation, we found it performed actually quite well," he said. “It feels like a technology we were dreaming about when we were kids. And now, it's all happening ...”.

In recent years, smart bus trials have been held in a number of Chinese cities. CRRC Electric Vehicle said the trial operations of Shanghai's first autonomous bus line began last month. The 8.5-km line with eight platforms opened to the public in mid-August. It takes a bus 35 to 40 minutes with 14 bus stops to complete the ride. The autonomous vehicles can automatically respond to 15 traffic lights, pull over, and open and close their doors.

Thanks to the rapid development of digital, intelligent and green technologies in transport, Chinese companies are seeking commercial opportunities. They are pioneering a new wave of technological breakthroughs.

A high-speed maglev test vehicle, with a designed speed of 600km/h     1     (successful) conducted its first test run on a maglev line at Tongji University in Shanghai last Sunday.

Air travel of passenger planes usually has     2     average of 800km/h, while high-speed trains in China now run at a speed of up to 350km/h. Researchers expect the 600km/h maglev train to fill the gap between the two and help to establish a more     3     (reason), efficient and flexible transport network     4     (meet) the travel needs of different groups.

China aims to put a 500-kilometer-long high-speed maglev line to use by 2025. People in Zhejiang are especially excited about the news. Once completed, the project     5     (enable) Hangzhou citizens to reach Shanghai in 20 minutes.

The high-speed maglev train features high speed, safety, reliability, large passenger capacity, on-time     6       (perform), environmental protection and low maintenance-cost. 7 . Before the Second World War, everyone everywhere rode their bicycles—and then with the dawn of the 1950s the automobile killed the cycling culture. In the 1960s Copenhagen was very polluted and crowded with cars. It took the city planners and politicians a long time to reclaim (恢复) the streets of Copenhagen.     1    

Rush hour in Copenhagen is when 45% of the population travel by bicycle to their places of work or study each day.     2     It looks very different there than in my home country of Canada—where there is a very low percentage of the population who ride bicycles.

The environmental concern is a minor part of what encourages people to cycle in Copenhagen.     3     Is there a linkage to cycling and why Copenhagen is often ranked the happiest city on the planet?

The Danish don’t have big monuments, they have Hans Christian Andersen’s “Little Mermaid (美人鱼),” which is life-size. This captures the spirit of the city; laid back, practical and responsible. Their monuments are big wind turbines (发电机).

Trees bring rain. When you cut down trees for building, for farming, the land and rivers dry up. The springs as God made them are gone, as is every living thing found that requires water to survive.
