文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道,主要讲的是在快速发展的社会中,游客们不能集中注意力很好地欣赏艺术品,而艺术是需要专心欣赏的。

1 . What is the place of art in a culture of inattention? Recent visitors to the Louvre report that tourists can now spend only a minute in front of the Mona Lisa before being asked to move on. Much of that time, for some of them, is spent taking photographs not even of the painting but of themselves with the painting in the background.

One view is that we have made tourism and gallery-going so easy that we have made it effectively impossible to appreciate what we’ve travelled to see. In this society, experience becomes goods like any other. There are queues to climb Everest as well as to see famous paintings. Thus, leisure is considered as hard labour rather than relaxation.

In the rapidly developing society, what gets lost is the quality of looking. Consider an extreme example, the late philosopher Richard Wollheim. When he visited the Louvre he could spend as much as four hours sitting before a painting. The first hour, he claimed, was necessary for incorrect impression to be removed. It was only then that the picture would begin to disclose itself. This seems unthinkable today, but it is still possible to organise. Even in the busiest museums there are many rooms and many pictures worth hours of contemplation (沉思) which the crowds largely ignore.

Marcel Proust, another lover of the Louvre, wrote: “It is only through art that we can escape from ourselves and know how another person sees a universe which is not the same as our own and whose landscapes would otherwise have remained as unknown as any there may be on the moon.” If any art remains worth seeing, it must lead us to such escapes. But a minute in front of a painting in a hurried, harried (烦扰) crowd won’t do that.

1. Why does the author mention the example in Louvre in Paragraph 1?
A.To express his concern about Louvre.B.To report the popularity of Mona Lisa.
C.To introduce a good place to take photos.D.To show a disappointing current situation.
2. Which of the following will Richard Wollheim agree?
A.People need to clear up their misunderstanding of paintings.
B.People have to stay at least 4 hours when appreciating paintings.
C.It is impossible for modern people to admire paintings attentively.
D.The longer one admires the paintings, the more unlikely he loves them.
3. What role does art play in our life according to Marcel Proust?
A.Art is of help for us to accept ourselves better.
B.Art makes our life more colourful and meaningful.
C.Art allows us to know the world in the view of others.
D.Art pushes us away from ourselves and explores the moon.
4. Which is the best title of the passage?
A.Into art attentively.B.Escape from ourselves.
C.Beyond art completely.D.Go to the museums often.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了有机食品,有机食品有利于地球和人类,所以人们想增加有机耕作,目前世界各地都在提倡有机种植。

2 . Not long ago, people could only buy organic food in small shops. Today it is common in most major supermarkets. The reason for the increase is that more and more people are demanding food grown without chemicals. Since the 1990s, organic farm production has gone up continuously. This pattern is expected to continue around the globe.

Australia leads the world in land used for organic agriculture. It has four times as much land devoted to organic farming as all of Asia. However, most of the land is not very fertile, and it only produces a modest amount of food. Argentina is a distant second, followed by Brazil, the United States and China. In Africa, only a very small amount of land is registered for organic farming. That does not mean Africa relies on chemicals. In fact, many farmers do not use chemicals because they cannot afford them. Yet there are no programmes for these farmers to prove they do not use chemicals. Without these programmes, their food can never be approved organic.

India has had the most dramatic recent increase in organic farming. Like many other countries,India sees continual growth in organic food sales around the world. This, of course, leads to growth in profits. Sales of organic food were more than doubled from 2000 to 2005. Like India, many countries are trying to increase commercial organic farming to get a share of the sales. This has led to criticism. Some people believe that organic farming should not just be about making money. They think the goal is to help the environment. Others say organic farming will not continue if it is not profitable. They say that people should be able to make money while providing health y food for mankind.

1. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Organic farming is growing around the world.
B.Organic food has become much less common.
C.Peopledonotwanttoeatfoodwithchemicalsinit.
D.Countries all want to make money from organic farming.
2. From the second paragraph, we can know that       .
A.India uses the least land to organic farming
B.Brazil uses less land to organic farming than China
C.the US is the fourth largest organic farming country
D.China and India have the same amount of organic farmland
3. Why do people want to increase organic farming?
A.Organic food is good for the Earth and the human beings.
B.More and more people demand chemicals to grow food.
C.There are fewer chemicals available to the human beings.
D.Profits from organic farming help make approval programmes.
4. It can be inferred from the passage that        .
A.people who eat food with chemicals have shorter lifespan
B.India will soon become the largest country of growing organic food
C.more countries will farm organically as the environment gets worse
D.there will be fewer organic farms if the demand for organic food goes down

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。本文通过克朗比和她的三个十几岁的孩子签了一份协议来帮助保持房子整洁的故事介绍激励家庭分担家务的方法。

3 . Anyone who has messy children, lazy partners or naughty flat mates will be impressed by the resourcefulness (足智多谋) of Katrina Neathey, the co-owner of a cleaning company in West Sussex. She has made her three teenagers sign an agreement to help keep the house tidy. Any infraction of the agreement, for example, littering up their bedroom with magazines and drinks, or failing to put their dirty plates in the dishwasher, will come with a 5 pounds' fine or removal of their phones.

It is one way of setting up a cleaning rota (轮班表) that people might stick to. “Cleaning is teamwork,” says Lynsey Crombie, also known as the Queen of Clean. She suggests getting everyone in the household together to find out what people like doing. “In our family, my husband is better at mowing the lawn. I love cleaning rooms. Someone else might like folding the towels. You let everybody do what they're good at, or enjoy, so there's more chance they'll actually do it.”

Crombie is not a fan of fines. For her children, she takes away their phones or turns off the Wi-Fi. For other adults who aren't joining in, she suggests keeping asking them to take action.

If you aren't sure what is required to keep the dirt at bay, there are many checklists online that you can print out to share the daily, weekly and monthly tasks. You can stick it on the fridge, and then everyone knows where they stand.   If it's not working, have another chat, such as “What do you dislike?” “How can we improve it?” Ironig out problems is all about communication.

C.explanation.D.discussion.
2. How does Crombie encourage her family to enjoy their tasks?
A.By dividing tasks in terms of interest.
B.By sticking to the cleaning rota strictly.
C.By setting up a role model herself.
D.By offering the family timely help.
3. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A.Fines work well among adults.
B.Ways to motivate people vary.
C.It's hard to push adults to take charge.
D.It's good to remind people of their tasks.
4. What's the author's purpose of writing the text?

6 . When it comes to mental illness, many people often find it tough to get the help they need. This is especially true for young students making the transition (过渡) to college life.

“Sometimes, students don't realize how hard it is to adjust to college,” said Laura Smith, associate dean of students at the University of Texas at Dallas. “You’re not the big fish in your classes anymore; you have all kinds of personal stress; you're away from home. “Dealing with these things is not easy.”

Students who are going through these problems sometimes want to reach out. But if students don't feel comfortable seeking help, many feel that it's the responsibility of their university to help them.

“I really wish that there was more importance placed on how counseling (咨询) centers help students,” said Connie Trinh. "Counseling services are just as important as academics and sports.”

Trinh, 27, graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 2015. During college, she hosted various workshops on how to handle mental health conditions. Trinh used her own story to connect with students who might be facing similar problems. High academic pressures, cultural differences as an Asian American and stressful social situations stood out as some of the most common causes of Trinh's anxiety.

It was only after years of personal problems that she could admit that reaching out isn’t a sign of weakness.

“If you feel you can't connect with other people around you, you should address the issue without shame,” Trinh said. “You'll find that there are a lot of people out there who sincerely want to help you.”

1. The passage can be seen as the author’s reflections upon_________.
A.college lifeB.counseling service
C.mental healthD.cultural differences
2. What's Trinh's preferred solution to the problems mentioned?
A.Making self-criticism.
B.Handling the problems actively.
C.Solving the problem on your own.
D.Finding the causes of the problems.
3. What does the underlined phrase “connect with” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Get along with.B.Join together with.
C.Be related to.D.Get through to.
4. What can we learn from the text?
A.Counseling service helps doing research.
B.Adjusting to college life is a piece of cake.
C.Hosting workshops improves students’ ability.
D.Being brave to get help is not a sign of weakness.

7 . Any car accident is frightening, but an accident in which your vehicle is thrown into the water, with you trapped inside, is absolutely terrifying.     1    However, most deaths result from panic, without a plan or understanding what is happening to the car in the water. By adopting a brace(支撑) position, acting decisively and getting out fast, you can save yourself from a sinking vehicle.

Brace yourself for impact (撞击力). As soon as you're aware that you're going off the road and into a body of water, adopt a brace position. The impact could set off the airbag system in your vehicle, so you should place both hands on the steering wheel in the “ten and two” position.

Undo your seat belt.     2     Unfasten the children, starting with the oldest first. Forget the cell phone call. Your car isn’t going to wait for you to make the call.

3     Leave the door alone at this stage and concentrate on the window. A car’s electrical system should work for up to three minutes in water, so try the method of opening it electronically first. Many people don’t think about the window as an escape option either because of panic or misinformation about doors and sinking.

Break the window. If you aren’t able to open the window, or it only opens halfway, you’ll need to break it with an object or your foot. It may feel counterintuitive (有悖常理的) to let water into the car.     4

Escape when the car has equalized. If it has reached the dramatic stage where the car cabin has been filled with water and it has become balanced, you must move quickly and effectively to ensure your survival.     5     While there is still air in the car, take slow, deep breaths and focus on what you’re doing.

A.Open the window as soon as you hit the water.
B.Surviving a sinking car is not as difficult as you think.
C.It takes 60 to 120 seconds for a car to fill up with water usually.
D.Such accidents are particularly dangerous due to the risk of drowning.
E.In conclusion, if you know what to do in the water, you will be safe.
F.This is the first thing to attend to, yet it often gets forgotten in the panic.
G.But the sooner the window is open, the sooner you can escape directly through it.

8 . In the United States, when one becomes rich, he wants people to know it. And even if he does not become very rich, he wants people to think that he is. That is what “keeping up with the Joneses” is about. It is the story of someone who tried to look as rich as his neighbors.

The expression was first used in 1913 by a young American called Arthur Momand. He told this story about himself. He began earning $ 125 a week at the age of 23. That was a lot of money in those days. He got married and moved with his wife to a very wealthy neighborhood outside New York City. When he saw that rich people rode horses, Momand went horseback riding every day. When he saw that rich people had servants, Momand and his wife also hired a servant and gave big parties for their new neighbors.

It was like a race, but one could never finish his race because one was always trying to keep up. The race ended for Momand and his wife when they could no longer pay for their new way of life. They moved back to an apartment in New York City.

Momand looked around him and noticed that many people do things just to keep up with rich lifestyle of their neighbors. He saw the funny side of it and started to write a series of short stories. He called it “Keeping up with the Joneses” because “Jones” is a very common name in the United States. “Keeping up with the Joneses” came to mean keeping up with rich lifestyle of the people around you. Momand’s series appeared in different newspapers across the country for over 28 years.

People never seem to get tired of keeping up with the Joneses. And there are “Joneses” in every city of the world. But one must get tired of trying to keep up with the Joneses because no matter what one does, Mr. Jones always seems to be ahead.

Ugur Demiryurek says they will launch the free ClearPath app for roads in L.A.in two months. In a year,he and Professor Shahabi hope to have ClearPath available nationwide and overseas once they can collect traffic data from other cities.
