Backlight 226 is a rare bookstore in Shanghai, as it offers books by visually impaired （损伤） people to those with visual impairments.     1     (locate) in the city’s leafy Nanchang Street, the store has been a fixture in the area since 2022, providing much-needed reading materials to the blind community.

“People may only know about the famous Helen Keller, but there are famous blind Chinese     2     (writer) as well,” said Han Ying, the manager of Backlight 226, referring to the American author and activist     3     lost her sight and hearing at an early age.

Han partially lost her vision after an accident aged 21 and     4     (become) completely blind five years later. She said she had to give up     5     (teach) calligraphy, and the way she read was also affected.

Now, aged 43, she relies     6     special apps designed for the visually impaired and spends most of her time at the bookstore. There, she promotes reading among visually impaired people and the bookstore     7     (equip) with facilities that allow the visually impaired     8     (read) more comfortably.

“Backlight 226 is a start,” Han said. “There will     9     (definite) be more like it across the country so that we can make the public know more about the special groups     10     their world.”

In 1992, Jiang Mengnan was born in Hunan. When she was six     2    (month) old, she lost her hearing. From then on, she couldn’t hear anything at all and     3    (she) world became silent. Her parents began to teach her to read people’s lips (嘴唇) and speak. It was not easy, but her parents never gave up. After a lot     4    practice, Jiang Mengnan learned to speak.

When Jiang Mengnan    5    (be) old enough, she went to school. She tried to understand what the teachers said by     6    (read) their lips. She worked very hard and overcame a lot of difficulties. She     7     (final) became a top student. In 2011, she got a high score in gaokao and went to Jilin University. In 2018, she was accepted by Tsinghua University as a PhD (博士) student.

“I think I am    8    (luck). I want to thank my parents, teachers and friends,    9     have been helping me all the time. And     10    best way to pay them back is to do something good for society,” Jiang Mengnan said.

I could feel the excitement rising in me as I held the beautifully wrapped present in my hands. Unable to contain my curiosity any longer, I tore     1    open. It was a brand-new laptop. I     2    (envy) my friends who were exchanging news about “chat rooms”, “instant messaging” and “emailing”, all of     3    I knew nothing about. Now I was going to find out.

Eric Brown, only three years old, knocked Henry down when he fell. The boy is in the hospital and doctors say he'll be OK.

Eric woke up a little later when he heard children playing outside. He pushed a chair onto the balcony, and climbed up     4     (see) them. It was a nice Monday morning and I was waiting for the bus at the station. “Here     1     (come) the bus,” a boy nearby cried out. But it was not the bus I was waiting for. Most people dream of living in a big expensive house. But Tim Shea just wanted to find a place     1     could become his home.

This 70-year-old homeless man had spent several years living on the streets until he became the first resident of a village filled     2     3D- printed little houses.

Shea was chosen to be the first person     3    (move) into Community First Village , a 51- acre site in Austin, Texas. The small houses in the village , like Shea’s 400-square-foot home, were built by the Austin-based start-up company ICON.

Life wasn't easy for Shea before     4     (live) in Community First Village. He lived in an RV(野营车) for most of his life.
