Quan Peng, a man in a wheelchair, set off from Beijing in August 2014, and     1    (visit) 43 cities and towns in five provinces so far. In the next six months, he hopes to make    2     to China’s southern tip — his final destination.

“I see it as a battle.” Quan said, “I’m not just battling against my disability,     3     also against discrimination (歧视).”

Quan has traveled on a tight budget. He has slept in a tent or in his chair, and camped out in hospitals, banks and public toilets. The few times he tried to stay in hotels, but he     4    (turn) away. “Restaurant owners would refuse     5    (take) me in because they see me as a beggar; I go to a hotel and they would tell me they are     6    (full) booked.”

Quan,     7     was housebound for eight years, wants to use his wheelchair trip to raise     8    (aware) of the need of disabled people around the country. Even in cities like Beijing and Shanghai, which are     9    (well) equipped for the disabled, Quan says he was not able to take a bus. “I would like to try my best to let people know that we are able to create value. We are not useless people    10    (stay) in bed all day long,” said Quan.

After attending a wedding ceremony, 17-year-old Norwood together with three friends was going home by car in St. Petersburg, Florida, on February 20. Norwood’s friends’ real     1     (recommend) was that she drive faster. Their car was about to pass a crossroads when a black car hit them. Their car sailed into someone’s yard and crashed into a tree. Later, the driver admitted not     2     (pay) much attention to the traffic on the road.

As the smoke rose from the car, a bystander (旁观者) who was     3     (scare) said loudly that it     4     (blow) up soon, adding, “Get out! Look! It is so     5     (horror).”The driver’s side doors couldn’t be opened, Quickly, Norwood climbed out through the window. Along with two of her friends, who’d also managed to free themselves, Norwood ran for her life.

But halfway down the street, she realized that her best friend, Simmons, wasn’t with them. Norwood couldn’t turn her back     6     her so she anxiously ran back and found Simmons in the back seat, unconscious. She threw open the back door and pulled her friend out. She dragged Simmons to safety, laid her on the ground and made     7     effort to save her. “I checked her pulse (脉搏), and put my head against her chest. No sign of life,” Norwood told CNN.

She started pumping Simmons’s chest     8     (appropriate) and breathing into her friend’s mouth in the hope of filling her lungs with the kiss of life. She made no response. And then, the 30 compressions (按压) and two rescue breaths enabled Simmons     9     (wake) up.

Soon, doctors arrived and rushed Simmons to a hospital. That was the hospital     10     she heard how her life had been saved by her best friend. “I wasn’t surprised,” Simmons said. “She will always help any way she can.”

Last month, a Uber driver stopped her work so she could help a helpless new mother with a sick child.

John Henry, Linda’s son, was born with a serious disease. Linda and her husband, who live in Kansas City and are both excellent athletes in the US, tried to find a doctor from Minnesota and Missouri to treat John Henry for the condition—but failed. Luckily, Linda managed     1     (contact) the best doctor in the world in St. Petersburg, Florida. The doctor asked for many of the     2     (detail) of the baby’s disease. It was said that the doctor was quite     3     (responsibility) and able to treat the disease so Linda said to her husband, “Next week I     4     (travel) to the Sunshine State to give our newborn son a fighting chance.”

After John Henry was put into the ICU, Linda decided to go and buy him some new clothes. Upon ordering a Uber ride to the nearby clothing store, she was picked up by a woman     5     age was about forty. Her name was Nancy.

Shortly after she got into Nancy’s car, Linda couldn’t help having a talk about her heartbreaking situation. “She told me her story and I really felt sorry for her,” Nancy said. Rather than simply drop Linda off at the store,     6     (amazing), Nancy parked the car and took her passenger to the store so she could treat John Henry to new clothes.

Linda said, “For this stranger to go completely out of her way, who stopped what she was doing and stopped making money to come to be with me for     7     couple of hours, it was just moving and unbelievable.” Moved by Nancy’s good deed, Linda applied     8     a job in a charity (慈善组织) last week and signed     9     for some voluntary work to give a hand to others in trouble. Now Linda has changed her former personal     10     (prefer) and spends more time caring for her child and doing some volunteer work.

A mother returned home very tired. Her 8-year-old son ran up to her. He was waiting for her and wanted to tell her     1     his younger brother had done.

“While I was out playing and Dad was on a call, Tyler took his crayons and wrote on the wall! I told him you would be mad at him     2     doing it again, but I couldn’t stop him.”

She let out a long sigh and asked: “He did it again?     3     is your brother now?”

“He is in his room.”

She walked to the younger son’s room. She called     4     full name as she entered. Then, she found Tyler     5     (try) to hide. He knew that the worst moments     6     (come)! For the next 10 minutes, the room was full of the sound of her shouting about the expensive wallpaper. She scolded the little boy for his bad behavior. A few years ago, I was going through the deepest point in my     1     (depress)—my living situation was bad, I had no car, no license and barely enough money     2    (get) by. All of these was due     3     the choices I made but I couldn't seem to find my way out. I     4    (ride) the bus home one day from work when an older woman sat across from me and     5    (strike) up a conversation with me. She asked me     6     I took the bus often and replied with a yes. She told me how she had just lost her job so that she would not need her bus pass any more and offered     7     to me. This woman had zero knowledge of my current situation and was on one of her     8     (bad) days, but she still found a way to be kind to someone else.

It touched a part of me I had forgotten about and it's an experience     9     will stay with me forever. I think about her sometimes and hope she is doing     10    (good).
