The Molai Forest, named after its creator, was once an area    1    (strike) by floods. Teenager Jadav noticed    2     sharp fall in the number of birds and snakes in the nearby forest area and wetland.  

The boy soon turned to his elders and asked, “What if all of us die like these snakes one day?” The grown-ups only laughed. But the boy comforted    3    (he), saying “I will make the planet greener.” 

From then on, Jadav started planting bamboos. He found a small island and planted many young trees. He worked     4    (extreme) hard at this for over three    5    (decade). His work paid off and the land became a    6    (beauty) green forest.  

In 1980, Jadav worked with a team    7     carried out a tree plantation project. And when the project was discontinued after 3 years, he continued    8    (plant) trees.

Today I will introduce two of the “Living Legends of Sports” to you, One is Lang Ping, and     1    other is Michael Jordan. Lang Ping is     2     (know) to Chinese people as a player and a coach. As a player, Lang Ping brought honour and glory to her country. As a coach, Lang Ping     3     (lead) her volleyball team to Olympic gold in Brazil in 2016.

Michael Jordan is famous as “Air Jordan”,     4    showed great mental     5     (strong) in the games. He says that the secret     6    his success is learning from failures. He also says that he can accept failures,     7    he can’t accept not trying.     8     (lose) games taught him to practise harder and never give     9    . Besides, he has learnt to share his success with others.

Although they are in different sports, they are both     10    (master) and set good examples for others.

I have a fifteen-year-old son. He    1     (be) a perfect boy. I love my son with all my heart.

Last summer he worked to earn money for his new bicycle instead of     2     (ask) money from me. Then he spent hours and hours on it. Later I bought him a pair    3    glasses and gloves. My son rode the bicycle with the glasses and the gloves, and he looked so cool. He dreamed of taking part in a race and winning.

On November 10, my birthday, when I went to the kitchen to start the milk and bread in the morning, I     4     (notice) a beautiful guitar on the table, beside which was a card. When I wondered     9     my son could buy this expensive gift, I realized that my son sold his bicycle to get me     10     guitar.

A man got lost while driving through a country. As he tried to read a map, he drove off the road into a ditch (沟渠)     1     (lucky). Though he was not injured, his car was stuck deep     2     the mud. So the man had got to walk to     3     nearby farm to ask for help.

“Warwick can get your car out of that ditch,” said the farmer,       4     (point) to an old mule (骡子). The man looked at the weak mule and the farmer     5     just stood there repeating, “Yep, old Warwick can do the job.” The man thought he had nothing     6     (lose). Therefore, he took the old man and Warwick to the ditch.

The farmer hitched (套住) the mule to the car and     7     (shout), “Pull, Fred! Pull, Jack! Pull, Ted! Pull, Warwick!” And the mule pulled the car from the ditch with very little effort.

The man was     8     (amaze). He thanked the farmer and asked, “Why did you call out all of those other     9     (name) before you call Warwick?”

The farmer smiled and said, “Old Warwick is just about blind. Once he     10     (believe) he is part of a team, he won’t mind pulling.”

When tidying my room yesterday, I     1    (find) an old photo in a notebook. It was a photo taken in our kitchen, in which my mother looked at me     2    (kind), with a very big smile on her face. As I was looking at it, the lovely     3    (memorize) of that day came back to me.

It was my mother’s birthday ten years ago, and I decided     4    (surprise) her with home-made scrambled eggs. I woke up really early and tiptoed to the kitchen. The boy was annoyed.He had put so much effort into     9    sunflower,but in the end he wasted it all for his impatience.And he was even     10    (angry) when he saw how big his classmates’ sunflowers grew.Finally,he decided not to be so impatient any more.

Mr Brown was going away for a week. Before he left, he said to     1     (he) son, “If anyone asks to see me, you can tell him that your father has been out for doing something,and will be back     2     a week. Then be sure     3     (ask) him to sit down for a cup of tea.” “OK, Dad,” said his son. But he was afraid his son couldn't remember this, he wrote these words down on a piece of paper and gave     4     to him. Four days passed, but no one came to see his father. The boy thought that there was no man to come and     6     the piece of paper was of no use to him, so he burnt it that evening.

The boy opened it.A man was standing at the door and said, “Where is your father?” The boy put his hand into his pocket at once and looked for the piece of paper. He     8     not find it. He suddenly remembered he had burnt it, so he shouted, “No more.” The man was very     9     (surprise). He asked, “No more? I met your father last week. When did it happen?” “It     10     (burn) yesterday evening.”

Ashley Power’s mother bought a computer for her when she was eight. When she was thirteen, she was surfing the Internet regularly,     1     she couldn’t find anywhere for teenagers to meet and talk. One day she thought, “If I had my own website, I’d make     2     a really interesting site for teenagers.”

So, when Ashley was sixteen, she launched her own website,     3     (call) Goosehead. She had no idea     4     a big success it would be, but three years later, the site was the     5     (successful) teen site in the USA! It was getting 100,000 hits every day.

After a few years, the website closed down. Then Ashley, who lives in Los Angeles,     6     (ask) to write a book The Goosehead Guide to Life. The book is     7     how to design a website and start a business. “I was so happy. But it was crazy in a lot of ways. I got very stressed: I mean, I was only sixteen — I didn’t even have a car! If you were sixteen and You had your own company, you’d be stressed, too!”

In     8     interview Ashley gave advice to teenagers who wanted to start their own business, “Just be strong and have your dreams and work hard at them. And don’t listen when people tell you     9     you can’t do it, because I heard ‘no’ a lot. Just keep going     10     you’ll succeed!”
