2 . How to Create a Home First Aid Kit

Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere, so having a properly stocked first aid kit in your home is an easy but essential part of good emergency preparation. Here are some useful tips for you to personalize your own first aid kit.

Pick a good container. You can buy pre-filled first aid kits, and you can also buy empty first aid kit containers.    1    One good choice is a large, water-resistant, flexible plastic container with either a zipper (拉链) closure or a lid. Lunchboxes are also another good option.

2    When your child is crying about a wound on her knee, you don't want your home kit buried on the back of a closet. Establish a clearly-defined, consistent spot for your first aid kit, on a visible closet shelf, for instance, and inform everyone in your home of its location.

Teach your family about the kit.     3     For younger children who shouldn’t try to use the items in the kit, teach them where it is located, so they could show a visitor, relative, babysitter, etc. For older children and adults, instruct them on when to retrieve (收回) the kit and how to use the various items in it.

Keep your kit up-to-date. No one wants to fetch a first aid kit and find the bandage box empty or the painkillers expired.     4     You’ve probably heard that you should check the batteries in your smoke detectors. This would also be a good opportunity to check the status of your first aid kit and restock it as needed.

Create a checklist to include with the kit. Stock your first aid kit and record every item on a sheet of paper you can keep it in the kit. Record amounts and expiration dates next to the listed items on the checklist you include in your kit.     5

A.Make sure anyone who retrieves the kit knows what it includes and does not include.
B.Make sure everyone in your home knows the location of the kit and when to retrieve it.
C.Make your kit safely accessible.
D.But you almost already have a perfectly good first aid kit container in your home.
E.Keep track of supply amounts and expiration dates regularly.
F.Make your kit clearly recognizable.
G.Or you can buy a first aid kit in the store.

7 . 阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Mike insisted the bed must be made every day. He and Linda were newly married, so Linda played along. Linda figured he took after his mother rather than his father. However, she took after her parents, who had the girl make the bed. Linda and Mike had no child, of course. They were young and poor and they made the bed in the apartment early in the morning on weekdays before they went to work.

Their habit of faithful bed making continued through the birth of their three children.Linda learned from her mother that even when she was in the hospital having a baby (which Linda did three times in three years), Mike made the bed without fail.

Finally Linda and Mike made the “Big Move” and arrived in California. When they were invited to neighborhood dinner parties, Linda found most Californians just pulled a quilt (被子) over their messy bed, but she always had a proper bedspread (床单), which she folded neatly over the pillows.

Once, when Linda and Mike were having a quarrel, she refused to make the bed. Without saying anything at all, Mike did the job alone.

Of course, years later the children grew up and moved out. There were a lot of changes. Still, Linda and Mike stood on both sides of their bed every morning, neatly making the bed. Whenever Linda wanted to give up their daily routine, Mike would ask her to help him make the bed with determination. It seemed important to his peace of mind.

After they celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary, it occurred to Linda that the way they made the bed was like a symbol of their marriage. Their style had always been both of them working as a team. Mike painted walls, created vegetable gardens and fixed everything that broke inside the house and out.Linda prepared meals and did most of the childcare. This system worked well for them for many a year.

9 . How to Handle an Argument with Your Family Members

We’ve all been there. A relaxed evening with our family members. A lot of laughing. And then, as if someone had sat on the TV remote and changed the channel, the mood shifts. No more warmth. Suddenly there’s shouting, a ping-pong of accusations(指责), deadly stares, and hostility(敌意) streaming from eyes like red laser pointers. Having a conflict with your family members is frustrating, and you may feel sad and depressed.     1

Do remember that as much as it might feel this way, you’re not in a court of law with your family members.     2     .It is to restore kindness and connection. Think of it this way —if somebody wins, both parties lose.

Do try to be an advocate of others’ feelings.     3     try to stand in the shoes of your family members. Try to understand their immature ways.

4     .This might frighten your family members, making them feel accused and in turn, act defensively. Example: “I was on the phone with my sister and then suddenly you started acting like crazy out of the blue.” Talk about the way you felt instead. Example: “I was on the phone with my sister and then I suddenly felt scared when I saw you looking at me like I was in trouble.”

Don’t try to explain yourself. You often want to explain yourself when having conflicts with your family members, but you don’t have time. You’re being cut off and attacked again.     5     .The more you talk, the less your family members seem to understand and the further away you get from an agreement.

A.If you are looking for a new relationship
B.Don’t attempt to prove yourself in the face of your loved ones
C.The point of an argument isn’t to prove the others guilty or to win
D.Rather than going in circles about what you think and how you feel
E.Each accusation strikes deeper and deeper into your sense of justice
F.Don’t talk about what happened as though you’re simply stating the facts
G.Here are the do’s and don’ts when you are arguing with your family members
