1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Niall was a 10-year-old boy who enjoyed the outdoors. He was fond of parks and nature trails and was saving up for a new bike he could use for his outdoor adventures.

One day after school, Niall checked the refrigerator for some leftovers. He was very hungry after spending the early afternoon playing football with his friends.

He noticed his mom Linda’s to-do list stuck on the refrigerator door. “Prepare dinner, wash the dishes, mow the lawn (修剪草坪), water the plants,do the laundry, clean the house...” Niall read the list. He realized his mom would only be able to go to bed at one o’clock in the morning if she wanted to accomplish everything. And she had to wake up at five to prepare breakfast for both of them before school and work.

“Oh, Mom,’’ Niall sighed. He was sad that his mother had to work hard because she was raising him as a single mother. Without hesitation, he quickly finished his meal and decided to help with the housework on his mom’s list in two hours before she came home.

Niall first cleaned the floor and did the laundry. Then he went to his mom’s room to put the folded clothes in the closet, where he saw a beautiful card. It was his mother’s bucket list. Niall found her top wish was to fly to a white sand beach alone. The boy smiled. He knew how much she loved going to the beach and how much she had devoted to the family.

Inspired, Niall decided to use the money he had saved to buy a plane ticket for his mom. He could ask his grandma to teach him how to book a flight. He imagined how happy his mom would be when he handed her that ticket.

Smiling, Niall quickly placed the clothes inside the closet. There were still many other chores — like mowing the lawn — that needed to be done.

2 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I live in a small but lovely neighborhood. Our house is neither large nor luxurious, but it has a fairly big garden. My father loves his garden. He planted some seeds in it and took good care of the plants, watering them, applying fertilizer, weeding and getting rid of bugs. He was never tired of doing all that stuff. But at that time, I didn’t understand why working in the dirt excited him so much.

Unfortunately, in the summer vacation before senior high school, my father was seriously injured in an accident. He had to stay in bed for a while. My mother had several business trips, so she couldn’t take care of the garden. I didn’t want my father to worry. I said that I would take care of his garden until he recovered. I assumed that the little plants would continue to grow as long as they had water, and luckily it rained fairly often, so I didn’t think much about the garden.

One Saturday morning, my father said to me, “Christine, the vegetables should be about ready to be picked. Let’s have a salad today!” I went out to the garden and was upset to see that many of the lettuce (生菜) leaves and carrots had been half eaten by bugs. There were hundreds of bugs all over them!

I panicked for a moment but then I quietly went to the nearest supermarket to buy some vegetables. When I was making the salad, my mother came home and saw the bag from the supermarket in the kitchen. I was embarrassed and admitted, “Dad would like a salad, but the garden is a disaster. I don’t want to disappoint him, so I went to the store and bought some vegetables.” My mother smiled, saying, “Honey, you know what is the right thing to do.”

Paragraph 1

My father seemed very pleased when I took the salad to him.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Dottie's Thanksgiving Dinner

Dottie, a puppy, knew today was special. It was Thanksgiving and everyone was getting ready for a big dinner. The doorbell kept ringing as cousins, grandparents, uncles and aunts all came to visit.

Amazing smells were coming from the kitchen. Dottie was not allowed to be in the kitchen today. Mom said that she would get in the way. Dad said she would lick (舔) everything she could reach. They were both right.

The children had been asked to keep the dog out of the way. They did, at first. However, once their cousins arrived, they forgot about Dottie and started playing with each other. The dog got closer and closer to the kitchen. Everything smelled so good! On the edge of the table was a plate filled with slices of ham (火腿) . Before she had a chance to eat it, Dad saw her.

“No! Leave that alone, Dottie! No food for you,” he said. Then he let the dog out into the yard where some family members were playing football. Dottie smiled. This was good! She liked running. She grabbed (抓住)   the football from a small boy and wouldn’t give it back. He started to cry, and Dottie got in trouble.

“That's enough, Dottie,” said Uncle Bill, taking the ball away from her. “Maybe you should go back in.” He opened the door again, and the sad puppy went inside.

The puppy went into the dining room and no one was there. Dottie went under the table. The tablecloth was so long that it hung down to the ground. This was a good place for a sleep, she thought.

In the kitchen, everything was ready. Mom and Dad began carrying big bowls and plates of delicious food into the dining room. “Before we get started, we should take a family picture,” suggested Mom. Dad agreed. They went to tell everyone to go outside for a Thanksgiving photo together.

Dottie's nose woke up before she did. She came out from under the table. She looked around. The house was empty. She remembered what Dad had said. “No food for you.” He was wrong.

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I was hungry and hopeful that our babysitter would make a meal. But I found she was sleeping on the sofa. So I wanted to turn to my sister, Ashley. She was coloring in her room. When she saw me, unexpectedly, she said, “I’m hungry. Let’s make some sandwiches.” Unluckily, before making sandwiches in the kitchen, Ashley and I had a fight. We ran around the kitchen, throwing flour at each other. Flour flew in the air around us as we went into the living room. Suddenly, we heard footsteps outside.

“Oh, no! Mom is coming!” I said. “What are we going to do about the mess?” I wondered nervously. It looked like it had snowed inside the house. Ashley quickly ran and took a vacuum cleaner, but she didn’t know how to turn it on. Suddenly, Mom walked in, tired from a long day’s work. After seeing the scene, she shook her head.

Ashley and I ran to her and smiled. Mom didn’t get angry at us. But she seemed disappointed at the babysitter when she woke her up and showed her the mess. Once the babysitter had gone, Mom went into her room. “We’re not in trouble!” I shouted with joy. “But Mom didn’t look so good,” Ashley said to me in a sad voice. “What? She was smiling. Surely she looked good and happy!” I argued. Then Ashley continued, “Well, let’s go and see!”

So we went to Mom’s bedroom door and secretly looked in. Mom was sitting on the bed with tears in her eyes. We returned to the living room. “Mom is crying because of our mess,” Ashley said. “Let’s clean the house. And she’s probably hungry now. Why don’t we make sandwiches for her? We just need to put some meat, vegetables, or something else in between two pieces of bread.”

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

As long as I can remember, it is more than 5 years since Dad left us, whom we missed very much. And what we are supposed to do now is accompany Mum very well, caring for her as much as possible. Mum cherishes everything from Dad, especially the thing that gives her a beautiful memory.

Yesterday, after telling my brother Rhys, and me to stop playing like wild animals, Mum went to take a bath. We were having a pillow fight when suddenly one hit a vase. Mum heard the loud crash. Wasting no time, she went wiping into the room. I was sure that she was going to shout at us, but instead she just knelt by the pieces and began to cry.

This made Rhys and me feel pretty awful. We went over and put our arms around her, and she explained to us why she was so upset. In the pieces lay a broken glass rose, one pedal(花瓣) gone, which was given by Dad on their first wedding and anniversary. Dad had said that if he ever forgot to bring flowers home for an anniversary in the future. Mum was to look at that one. It was like their love: it would last a lifetime.

We began crying, and offered to glue it. But Mum said that wouldn’t really fix. Now that it had been broken, the value of the “limited edition” had reduced. As Mum slowly began to pick up the mess, we tried everything we could think of to cheer her up, but even our best funny faces didn’t work. Everything was picked up. Tears kept coming down her cheeks.

Paragraph 1

Seeing Mum going back to the bath, I stopped her.

8 . I was visiting my sister and watched as my fifteen-year-old nephew, Ben, emptied the trash without being asked. “You’re such a great kid,” I told him. “Thank you for doing that.” He smiled, “The trash is my job. I’m ATT around here.” At my confused look, my sister Mandy explained that ATT stood for All Things Trash. “Emptying the trash has always been Ben’s job, and sweeping the floor is Anna’s job. Whenever some of the trash would spill out onto the floor, they’d argue about whose responsibility it was to clean it up,” she said. “So, we came up with the word act to solve that problem. If it has anything to do with trash, no matter where it is, it’s Ben’s job.” I nodded. “That makes sense. I love easy ways to solve common problems.”

A few days later, I was back home with my own family. I had a deadline for a huge project at work, and I was really feeling the pressure. When I’d picked up my son from school that afternoon, I’d enter the grocery store to buy a toasted chicken for dinner. I figured that would buy me an extra hour to work on my project since I wouldn’t have to cook that night.

Now, it was 6:00 p.m., and I was typing away, making good progress. My kids were downstairs watching TV. My eleven-year-old son, Nathan, came into the room and said, “Mom, I’m getting hungry. Can you warm up the chicken now?”

“In a little bit,” I answered without looking up from the computer, “I’m trying to work.”

Ten minutes later, my older son, Jordan, came in to tell me that he was hungry too, and I needed to warm up the chicken. “I’ll do it as soon as I’m at a stopping point,” I said.

Fifteen minutes after that, my eighteen-year-old daughter, Julia, made the same request. I exploded. “Each of you is old enough to put a toasted chicken in the microwave,” I nearly shouted. “You are watching TV while I’m working on something important. I would think you would realize that I’m busy and just take some responsibilities.”

A New Addition to the Family

For the initial ten years of his life, Victor was the prince of the household. As he was an only child, his parents petted him and showered all their love and attention on him. Whatever toys his parents bought, they were always meant for him. Whatever food was in the refrigerator, there was no one to compete with him to polish it off first. Victor could leave his toys or books around the house with complete ease of mind, knowing that there was no one who would get their hands on his belongings and cause any damage.

However, all that was to change overnight when Victor’s parents brought back his new baby sister, Lina, from the hospital. With her rosy cheeks, wide open eyes and angelic smile, Lina caught the hearts of her parents, grandparents and relatives. Everyone focused their attention on the cute bunch of joy. Whenever she cried, her mother or father would rush to her bed. She simply cried because she wanted to be carried. There was little time left for Victor.

Now that Victor’s mother had his baby sister to take care of, she expected Victor himself to do most of the chores he can do. Victor was asked to clean his own room, iron his own school uniform and clean his own shoes. Before Lina’s arrival, he had never lifted a finger to help out with these tasks. The whole family also went out less because it was unhealthy to expose Lina to the bacteria(细菌) being in the outside world too often.

Victor felt neglected by his parents. He felt that they loved Lina more than him. As a result, he tried to attract his parents’ attention by becoming resistant. One evening, Victor’s parents were called up by his teacher because Victor had got into a fight at school. His teacher had noticed Victor’s behaviour and work attitude changing downwards in the past two months. Before that, he had been a model student.

10 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

For nearly twenty years, my life was about two things: smoking cigarettes—and trying to quit smoking cigarettes.

When I married Cassie ten years ago, I threw my pack of cigarettes and swore I was quitting.

When we bought our first house eight years ago, I celebrated it by pulverizing (粉碎) my pack of cigarettes with my shoe heel.

When my son, Cole, was born five years ago, I threw my cigarettes into a garbage can.

I even began working out—running days a week, rain or shine. I lost forty pounds but I never was able to outrun those cigarettes.

You know cigarettes are deadly—but every cell in your body screams out for that nicotine. Then, one day the willpower I had lacked arrived from most unexpected place: an unclouded corner of my son’s mind.

As Cassie was driving Cole home from kindergarten, they passed a cemetery (墓地), which made the boy ask: “Mom, what’s under tombstones?”

Realizing there was no delicate answer, she frankly said, “Dead people.”

“Is that where Dad’s going to be because he smokes?” Cole asked. “I hope not,” Cassie replied. “Dad shouldn't smoke,” Cole said, his voice rising in anger. He kicked the back of the front seat. “Dad’s stupid for smoking. When I'm twenty, he’ll be dead.”

Cassie was speechless, shocked by Cole’s innocence. Then, just as quickly as he had exploded, Cole calmed down. “I hope he comes back as a ghost and talks to me,” he said peacefully. “Like Obi-Wan Kenobi did to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.”

注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

When I arrived home from work that evening, Cassie recounted the story to me.
