4 . There’s no lack of family fun in New York City, especially when you and your family visit the many amazing museums for kids. Every site offers something exciting. If you’re looking to enjoy a weekend or a day ff school, try the following museums for kids.
Children’s Museum of Manhattan
This nearly 40, 000-square-foot museum makes learning about culture and science an enjoyable experience for kids. It also hosts classes and workshops which are all designed with the latest child-development research in mind.
Brooklyn Children’s Museum
When founded in 1899, the BCM was the country’s first museum designed for children. Today, it’s one of the most comprehensive(综合性的)museums, with a collection of 30, 000 objects, including musical instruments, masks, dolls and fossils. Kids have fun while learning at interactive(互动的)exhibitions like “World Brooklyn”, a mini city lined by stores where children can make bread at the Mexican Bakery, or shop for candy at the International Grocery.
DiMenna Children’s Museum
Exhibitions and programs at this kid-focused New-York Historical Society transport children back through 350 years of U. S. history. Galleries show the lives of kids who grew up to become famous doctors, athletes and political figures, and Little New-Yorkers classes invite kids to join in sing-alongs and make crafts.
Children’s Museum of the Arts
This museum is especially designed for kids so that they can travel around the art world. The 10, 000-square-foot museum has more room to house its 2, 000-piece collection of international children’s art, including a huge center gallery. Artists lead workshops in classrooms, studios and media labs—which are famous for a sound station, a clay bar and the video-making equipment.

5 . The custom of flying a piece of cloth high in the sky began more than 2,000 years ago in China. Since then, kites have been served in many fields, like doing scientific experiments, powering boats, taking pictures from the air and much more. In fact, kite-flying is a great way to clear the mind.
When Americans Kay and Larry Day found a store selling kites nearly 20 years ago, they decided to buy a few kites for their family. For fun, Larry bought one for himself. “He went out and flew it and decided he needed to go back and get a better one,” Kay remembered. Since then, she and her husband have loved kite-flying. They own many kites and plan trips around flying them. They also organize a kite-flying event each winter in their hometown in Iowa. “I’m at peace when I’m flying a kite,” said Larry.
Nic O’Neill, president of the American Kite-fliers Association said that kite-flying can be done alone or with friends and family. Kites appeal (有吸引力) to people who like to create works of art or to those who like to combine kite-flying with music. O’Neill said, “Part of the reason I love flying kites is that I have to risk trying and not succeeding. The best way to learn is to go out, undo the string (细绳) and let your kite fly. The perfect condition includes a nice steady wind and a place away from trees and buildings.”
Grant Lovett began flying simple kites as a child, but moved on to costlier and more complex kites as an adult. Today, Lovett likes making his own kites. He builds them from strong, lightweight materials and products designed for sailboats. Lovett attends kite-making classes and looks for new models on the Internet. He makes kites of different shapes and sizes because flying conditions can be greatly different. He also notes that experience makes a difference, and so does the weather and he likes the happy feelings that he experiences when his kite moves through the sky. “It is really calming,” he said.

Indigo dye(蓝染)is an environment-friendly, natural and hand-made dye, it can be traced back to the Qin Dynasty. I was so interested that I went to a workshop to learn more about it.
First, I put some leaf of the indigo plant and some water into a bucket, with which I could successful establish a dye vat(缸). Then, I drew images on a white cloth. I tied different knots with cloth according to the patterns. After that, I put the cloth onto the dye vat. Worn a pair of gloves, I softly pulled the cloth out, placed it down and wait 10 minutes for it to absorb the dye. Then, I hung them up, leaving it there for about half an hour. Finally, a beautiful indigo dye piece was appeared. Not only did this experience teach me about indigo dye, and also it helped with my creativity.
