文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了乔治亚州全地形项目,在乔治亚州的公园为身体残疾的人免费提供全地形轮椅。

2 . “Everyone should have the chance to play” is the idea behind All Terrain (地形) Georgia, a program that offers free all-terrain wheelchairs at Georgia’s parks to those with physical disabilities. Being in the woods, fishing, or having a picnic at one of Georgia’s state parks can help those people feel normal again. This is a cooperation program between the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Aimee Copeland Foundation.

All-terrain wheelchairs look like an advanced version of everyday wheelchairs. They have a tank-like appearance, and their wheels are bigger. And bigger engines make them have more power to cross terrain quickly. Most importantly, these chairs are specially designed to make them reliably cross terrain that’s rough, wet, sandy or snowy. Therefore, they can give people who might not be able to cross more difficult types of terrain the ability to start a trip.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 11.1% of U.S. adults have serious difficulty walking or climbing steps. And yet, the most wheelchair-friendly national park in the country, South Dakota’s Badlands National Park, has only 3 roads out of 17 suitable for wheelchairs. Besides, traditional wheelchairs can be risky, uncomfortable, and difficult to use in the park, not to mention the fact that the price of some all-terrain wheelchairs can be between $13,000 and nearly $30,000.

Now, as long as you complete a form and meet the requirements, you can book an all-terrain wheelchair and use it for free at one of the cooperative state parks in Georgia. Do remember you need to have an adult around you during the trip. The adult must undergo a training program, carry a fully charged phone and be physically capable of seeking help, if necessary, by returning quickly to the place where the chair was checked out.

Last year, a number of all-terrain wheelchairs were put into service at 11 state parks and historic sites through All Terrain Georgia. Looking ahead, Melanie Dunn, the assistant director of the Aimee Copeland Foundation, said, “The foundation will soon have the ability to move the chairs to many other parks. Everyone deserves the chance to get close to nature and we can help them do it.”

1. What may users value most about all-terrain wheelchairs?
A.Their ability to run on challenging terrain safely.
B.The convenience of avoiding heavy traffic.
C.The creative idea behind them.
D.Their cool appearance.
2. Why is South Dakota’s Badlands National Park mentioned?

3. What do the instructions on the program in Paragraph 4 suggest?

4. What is Dunn’s attitude towards the future of all-terrain wheelchairs?

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者开展一个家庭扫盲计划,邀请了儿童书籍创作者詹姆斯·兰瑟姆来参加,詹姆斯发表了讲话,鼓励了很多家庭。

9 . As a doctoral student, I served as a hostess for famous authors and illustrators when they came to participate in the Ohio State University Children’s Literature Conference. I hosted such beloved creators of children’s books as Nikki Grimes, Jerry Pinkney and James Ransome. I would stand at the airport, holding one of their books and waiting to pick them up and then drive them around town to places they needed to go and assist them during autograph sessions. After graduating from my university and accepting a position at Clemson University in 2003, I kept in touch with James Ransome.

In 2005 I received a grant from the government to conduct a family-literacy program. I wanted to see what would happen when I exposed ten African American families with children to books by and about African Americans. I provided each of the families with copies of seven books, five of which were illustrated by James.

The families participated in a series of five monthly workshops, and the final event was a presentation by James and an autograph session with him. I believed this event would be a meaningful way to end the program, by having a famous illustrator of children’s literature come and talk about his work, especially because the families and I had read and responded to several of his books over the course of the five workshops.

James’s visit was informative and enlightening for the families. A parent, Ashley, told me that she sent a note to her son’s teacher about having participated in the program and loaned her son’s autographed copies of James’s books for the class to read. Looking back over my career, this family-literacy program is one of the accomplishments of which I am the proudest, and I am especially pleased that James was part of it.

1. How did the author come into contact with James?
A.The author met him by accident at the airport.
B.The author went to him to ask for an autograph.

2. What can be learned about James?
A.He ran monthly workshops.B.He is an African American.
C.He has written seven books.D.He graduated from Clemson University.
3. What did James do for the family-literacy program?
A.He gave a talk to the families.
B.He loaned his books to the families.
C.He responded to the questions raised by the families.
D.He asked the government to give financial support to the families.
4. What is Ashley’s attitude towards James?

10 . A year after he died at 17, a young man’s love of helping others lives on through a foundation. The Benjamin Canlas Courage to be Kind Foundation gives away bikes to Filipinos who are struggling to hold on to jobs in a country undergoing difficult times.

Benjamin Canlas was always warm-hearted. One time, he saw a food seller riding an old bicycle. Its pedals were missing. To help, Benjamin let the man ride his bike and used his own savings to send the seller’s bike to a bicycle shop for restoration.

After Benjamin’s death, his parents George and Glennda Canlas created the foundation in memory of the young man and his kindness, seeing it as a way to connect donors with those in need. In the Philippines, many jobs have been lost this year. This has left thousands of Filipinos taking odd jobs. With restricted public transportation, many people have to walk for hours to do these jobs.

The Canlases had the idea to give away bikes to individuals nominated (提名) by their peers or loved ones. When the giveaway contest was announced on social media, they did not know how much interest there would be and planned to give away seven bicycles at first. But they received over 50 nominations. “We didn’t expect that, uncertain whether what we do is of any practical value,” said Glennda. “But now we’re determined.” One bike owner is Camilla, a mother of a 2-year-old. When her husband’s work was put on hold, she started selling and delivering food. Camilla said the bike was a big help and she was “so happy” that she didn’t have to walk so far anymore.

Even as the contest ended, nominations continued to pour in. The foundation said there are people still in need. Now it is working on launching more sustainable projects that will help more while also inspiring others to pay it forward. “We live in a world where it takes courage to be kind,” said Glennda. “Our goal would be from ‘courage to be kind’, and create a world where kindness does not require courage—it is simply the thing we all do.”

1. What did Benjamin do after seeing the seller riding an old bike?
A.He sent money to the seller.B.He had the old bike repaired.
C.He gave his own bike to the seller.D.He bought a new bike to the seller.
2. The Canlases set up the foundation to ______.
A.continue their son’s wishesB.memorize Benjamin Canlas

A.To show impacts of the country’s tough situation.B.To appeal for attention to the people in need.
C.To illustrate being kind does require courage.D.To state the difference made by the good deed.
4. What is the foundation aimed at now?
A.Providing more bikes to the people in need.B.Encouraging everyone to be courageous.
