Cottage we stayed at was located on Nokara Farms. The cottage overlooked Ontario Lake and the view was exciting. Lying on the couch and looking straight out of the window I could see Ontario Lake.

In the morning of our first day there, we traveled around the farm. I was glad that I hadn’t forgotten to bring my camera along with me. I was able to take some amazing photographs of the lake and the sunset. In the afternoon, the owner of the farm took us on a tour of the farmland and then allowed us to pick fruits and vegetables.

It gave me a feeling that something big was going to happen and that’s when the fireworks started. No wonder so many people came there that night.

文章大意:本文是说明文。本文介绍了“什么都不买”的活动以及它的两个好处。

3 . We all have things we don’t need. For Canberra resident Zoe Bowman, it is melon ballers(蔬果挖球器). “Someone asked for a melon baller to make some melon balls for a kid's party, and I looked in the drawer and I had three,” she says. “I don’t need three melon ballers!”The request was made on a Facebook page that she manages, one of the thousands of local pages that make up the “buy nothing” movement.

Part zero—waste movement, part community—building project, “buy nothing” has taken off in Australia's inner—city suburbs as a way to rehome unwanted goods and avoid unnecessary purchases—like a third melon baller. "It gives people something to do before immediately consuming," says Bowman. In a world where people rarely know their neighbors, a "buy nothing" page is a way to get to know the people living on your street. Bowman has become friends with some people she regularly corresponds with in the group.

In such a group, both behaviour and membership are strictly policed. Demanding or offering money in exchange for goods or services will get you banned. Posting about lost pets is discouraged, and politics is outlawed.

Once a group gets too big, usually more than 1,000 or 1,500 members, it is divided into smaller groups. When Bowman joined her group in Canberra, it covered a sixth of the city. Now it covers just three suburbs: Aranda, Cook and Macquarie. The aim is always to make the groups as hyper—local as possible.

The “buy nothing” community exists in a comfortable and trusting bubble. People recognize each other by name and leave their back gates unlocked for people to come and collect what they need. Without trust, a “buy nothing” group can’t go smoothly.

1. Why did Bowman respond to the request for a melon baller?
A.She was eager to become famous.
B.She desired to make friends with others.
C.She wanted to make money by selling them.
D.She had extra melon ballers that she didn't need.
2. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3?
A.The origin of “buy nothing” groups.B.The meaning of “buy nothing” groups.
C.The regulations of “buy nothing” groups.D.The achievements of “buy nothing” groups.
3. What matters most in the running of “buy nothing” groups?
A.Trust.B.Profit.C.Commitment.D.Management.
4. What might be the best title for the passage?
A.Buy Nothing—A Good Way to Save Money
B.Buy Nothing—Explodes Around The Global
C.Buy Nothing—Saving Money & Living Better
D.Buy Nothing—Contributes to World Development

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了如何为未来的自己做出选择。

6 . Every day, whether you like it or not, you have to make choices for your future selves. Whether it’s about where you’ll be living next year or how you’ll spend your money, making tough decisions is something that is bound to happen.     1

2     When I try to make a decision, I always think about where I want to be in a year. Is this the direction I want to go? If the answer is against what I’m working towards, I’ll try to change my decision, even if that means taking the harder route.

3     Depending on the situation you’re in, this one can be hard to follow through on. Whether you’re making a decision about your relationship, your job or your general well-being, every decision you’ll make includes one thing in common: you. No one else is living your life.     4     Their advice helps you weigh your choices more objectively. Remember though: Advice is just advice.

Learn to trust yourself. The person you need to trust first is yourself. Being kind to yourself increases self-confidence and lessens your need for approval. Loving and caring for yourself not only increases self-trust, it also deepens your connection with others.     5     However, once you have more confidence in yourself, you may feel better about making big decisions in the future.

A.Everything we do is a choice that we make.
B.Ask for advice but make your own choice.
C.Having the confidence to trust yourself is a task on its own.
D.No matter how things may seem, you always have a choice.
E.Still, it’s never a bad idea to ask for an outsider’s advice.
F.Before you make a big decision, though, there are a few things you should consider.
G.The best way to make a decision is by knowing what your goals are.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了Alastair Humphreys设计了一个名为“一张地图就够了”的项目,来探索家附近区域一年。文章介绍了他启动这个项目的原因以及感受。

7 . Life in lockdown has been hard on people for many reasons, but it has presented unique challenges to those who are used to wandering far from home. For professional adventurers like Alastair Humphreys, who has biked around the world and walked across southern India, the prospect of staying close to home is particularly frightening.

Humphreys’ concept of the “microadventure” has been covered before on Treehugger, so he’s no stranger to finding adventure in the seemingly boring places of home. But to create an ongoing sense of discovery throughout the long months of lockdown at his home in southeastern England, Humphreys had to come up with another plan. He designed a project called “A Single Map Is Enough”. For this, Humphreys ordered a big paper map of his region that measured 20 kilometers along either side. He aimed to explore this map, one small area at a time, for a year.

This project is a pleasant reminder of just how much there is to see around us — if we choose to notice it. There’s nothing wrong with staying close to home; it can offer far more opportunities for discovery than we may realize. Humphreys told Treehugger, “At the start of the project, I feared a year on one map. I was sure it would be boring. By the end of the year, I was astonished by how little of my map I had seen, and how much there was still to explore.”

“A Single Map Is Enough” will be coming out in book form, allowing us readers to travel through Humphreys’ stories and photos. But this time, his adventure won’t be nearly as difficult to replicate as his earlier ones. We can all get a local map, divide it into squares, and start getting to know our backyards better than ever. And like him, we’ll probably be amazed at what we discover.

1. What does Humphreys’ new project focus on?
A.Making a big map of his region.B.Exploring areas near his home for a year.
C.Encouraging people to take up a new hobby.D.Meeting like-minded people around his home.
2. How did Humphreys feel at the beginning of his project?
A.Confused.B.Disappointed.C.Anxious.D.Amazed.
3. What does the underlined word “replicate” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Predict.B.Record.C.Discover.D.Copy.
4. What would be the best title for this text?
A.Developing our map reading habitsB.Limiting our adventures to one map
C.Reading is the new way of travellingD.Lockdown has brought more rewards than challenges
