2 . Instead of spending Labor Day weekend at home my uncle decided to make a trip to Ontario, Canada. After doing a Google search he found a cottage on Nokara Farms in St. Catherines, Canada and that is where we went.
Cottage we stayed at was located on Nokara Farms. The cottage overlooked Ontario Lake and the view was exciting. Lying on the couch and looking straight out of the window I could see Ontario Lake.
In the morning of our first day there, we traveled around the farm. I was glad that I hadn’t forgotten to bring my camera along with me. I was able to take some amazing photographs of the lake and the sunset. In the afternoon, the owner of the farm took us on a tour of the farmland and then allowed us to pick fruits and vegetables.
Niagara-on-the-Lake is a town in Ontario, Canada and we went to visit it on our second day there. While walking along the main street, I saw a couple that were dressed up like people from the old days, which was interesting to see. Another amazing thing that I saw was a monument that listed the names of the people who swam across Ontario Lake.
I have been to Niagara Falls in the past but I have never visited it in the evening when everything is lit up. In the evening of our second day there, so majestic, so magical, especially with the fireworks overhead. However, there were too many people visiting Niagara Falls that night. It was too crowded. It gave me a feeling that something big was going to happen and that’s when the fireworks started. No wonder so many people came there that night.
The third day we went home. My trip to Ontario, Canada was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I definitely want to return there in the future, hopefully in the near future.

3 . We all have things we don’t need. For Canberra resident Zoe Bowman, it is melon ballers(蔬果挖球器). “Someone asked for a melon baller to make some melon balls for a kid's party, and I looked in the drawer and I had three,” she says. “I don’t need three melon ballers!”The request was made on a Facebook page that she manages, one of the thousands of local pages that make up the “buy nothing” movement.
Part zero—waste movement, part community—building project, “buy nothing” has taken off in Australia's inner—city suburbs as a way to rehome unwanted goods and avoid unnecessary purchases—like a third melon baller. "It gives people something to do before immediately consuming," says Bowman. In a world where people rarely know their neighbors, a "buy nothing" page is a way to get to know the people living on your street. Bowman has become friends with some people she regularly corresponds with in the group.
In such a group, both behaviour and membership are strictly policed. Demanding or offering money in exchange for goods or services will get you banned. Posting about lost pets is discouraged, and politics is outlawed.
Once a group gets too big, usually more than 1,000 or 1,500 members, it is divided into smaller groups. When Bowman joined her group in Canberra, it covered a sixth of the city. Now it covers just three suburbs: Aranda, Cook and Macquarie. The aim is always to make the groups as hyper—local as possible.
The “buy nothing” community exists in a comfortable and trusting bubble. People recognize each other by name and leave their back gates unlocked for people to come and collect what they need. Without trust, a “buy nothing” group can’t go smoothly.

7 . Life in lockdown has been hard on people for many reasons, but it has presented unique challenges to those who are used to wandering far from home. For professional adventurers like Alastair Humphreys, who has biked around the world and walked across southern India, the prospect of staying close to home is particularly frightening.
Humphreys’ concept of the “microadventure” has been covered before on Treehugger, so he’s no stranger to finding adventure in the seemingly boring places of home. But to create an ongoing sense of discovery throughout the long months of lockdown at his home in southeastern England, Humphreys had to come up with another plan. He designed a project called “A Single Map Is Enough”. For this, Humphreys ordered a big paper map of his region that measured 20 kilometers along either side. He aimed to explore this map, one small area at a time, for a year.
This project is a pleasant reminder of just how much there is to see around us — if we choose to notice it. There’s nothing wrong with staying close to home; it can offer far more opportunities for discovery than we may realize. Humphreys told Treehugger, “At the start of the project, I feared a year on one map. I was sure it would be boring. By the end of the year, I was astonished by how little of my map I had seen, and how much there was still to explore.”
“A Single Map Is Enough” will be coming out in book form, allowing us readers to travel through Humphreys’ stories and photos. But this time, his adventure won’t be nearly as difficult to replicate as his earlier ones. We can all get a local map, divide it into squares, and start getting to know our backyards better than ever. And like him, we’ll probably be amazed at what we discover.
