1 . How to deal with your homework

Write it down.     1     Always be sure to write down all the homework so you won’t forget anything.

Create a homework station. Find somewhere comfortable and quiet to do your homework.     2     It will take twice as long to get the homework done. Shut off your cell phone, log off (退出) your computer (unless you need it for your homework) and close the door.

Do homework as early as possible. Don’t leave homework to the last minute.     3     The earlier you start your homework, the sooner you will finish! Do all your homework as early as you can, so you don’t have a pile of ( 一 堆 ) homework the next day.

4     Think about how long it will take you to complete homework for each subject. For example: English-ten minutes, science-ten minutes, math-forty minutes, history-twenty minutes.

Treat yourself. You can easily get tired by sitting through an hour or two of homework without stopping. Once you finish homework for a subject, take a small break (no more than 15 minutes). Either taking a walk or finding something to eat will do. But do not turn on the TV, or you’ll never go back to your study.     5

A.Use your time wisely.
B.Start as soon as you get home.
C.Start with your hardest homework.
D.Do not burn the midnight oil, either.
E.Never do your homework in front of the TV.
F.After short breaks, return to finish the rest of your homework.
G.Keep a homework notebook where you record all your homework.

4 . Good study habits play an important role in raising confidence and getting higher marks in exams. Of course, it’s usually hard to build lasting study habits at first, but it won’t be too long before your new good habits become part of your routine.    1

Set a daily study time. Studying for a test begins well before you reach exam day.    2    By reserving a specific time each day for studying, it can be easier to focus, because you won’t have to worry about any other things competing for your attention.

Arrange your study space. Choose an area that is clean, well-lit, and free of distractions. Avoid sitting in front of the television or around a busy part of your home. Some people like to study in the library or coffee shop.    3

Turn off your electronics. Electronic devices are a big distraction, so remember to turn off your phone and television. Keep your cell phone away from you, as it will distract you.     4    When you need to use your computer while studying, stay away from social media, emails, and off-topic websites.

5    Plan a small reward for each day you study, such as time playing your favorite game, a piece of candy, or money to set aside for something you really want. Think of a weekly reward for meeting each daily goal that week, such as a few hours with your friends.

A.You should set aside time every day to study.
B.Only check your messages during break time.
C.Reward yourself for meeting your study goals.
D.Leave yourself enough time for games or time with friends.
E.To better your study habits, you can employ efficient ways of studying.
F.Break the information down so you’re only dealing with a little each day.

5 . Study Tips and Techniques

If you find yourself struggling with your studies, here are some useful study tips and techniques that can help you out.

Self-study and research

It is a common wrong idea that self-study can begin only after a particular topic is taught in class.     1     After attending the classes, it is of great importance that you have time to review the notes that you have taken during the class as well as try and read more about the subject on your own.

    2

Yes, one of the important habits that you must acquire to improve the studying process is to involve yourself in group discussions about the subjects that you are studying. Group discussions can be a great way to broaden your viewpoint over important problems since group discussions give every group member a chance to voice their understanding. Group discussions are thus a healthy and a rather informal way of exchanging information and discussing issues.

Regular Planning

3    . According to your convenience, map out your daily/weekly/monthly study. It is always better to have a weekly or a daily arrangement, so that sudden changes in class schedules or any other changes can be taken into consideration accordingly.

Balanced study

Yes, there exist many students who burn the midnight oil.     4    . Always plan a schedule that will not influence your sleep, your health, your sports/entertainment activities and other tasks.

Build the right attitude

Normally students get too caught up with the grades, the percentage and the entire marking system. Always remember that if you study with the aim of acquiring knowledge, the grades will be brighter. However, if you just aim for the high grades, there is a chance you might get the grades, but you will miss out on acquiring overall knowledge on a particular subject.     5    .

A.Debates and Conversations.
B.Organized and overall notes.
C.You should start preparing for the class in advance.
D.Having a clear project makes it easier for a person to reach the goal.
E.Try and answer these questions yourself with the help of books or Internet.
F.The studying process should leave enough room for entertainment and relaxation.
G.Always study with the right point of view, and you will never have to worry about your grades.

9 . If you are always successful, you may not learn much.     1     Scientists have found that being wrong 15 percent of the time is the secret to learning new things. Although nobody likes to fail, scientists have long suspected that people learnt better when they were challenged to learn something just outside of their existing knowledge.

Make a task too hard and participants will give up without learning any new skills, but if it is too easy, they will also not pick up anything useful.     2     To find out where the “sweet spot” lies, researchers at the University of Arizona conducted a series of machine-learning experiments in which they taught computers simple tasks, such as picking whether a number was odd (奇数的) or even (偶数的).     3

The scientists have named it “The 85 percent rule” and say it could help teachers adapt their classes to the right level. If the teachers give really easy examples, you get 100 percent right all the time.     4     If they give really hard examples, you still won’t learn anything new. Only when you are at this “sweet spot” can you get the most information from each particular example.

5     You shouldn’t be disappointed if you aren’t 100% right all the time. If you are taking classes that are too easy, then you aren’t probably getting as much out of a class as someone who’s struggling but managing to keep up.

A.Accept challenges bravely.
B.Then there’s nothing left to learn.
C.The more difficult the task, the better.
D.In this way, you can maximize your learning.
E.But that “sweet spot” has always been unknown.
F.Some studies have shown that failure is not a bad thing.
G.They found that when the error rate was 15 percent, the computers learnt fastest.

10 . A study plan is an effective way to help you get through your college education in an organized way. Each student will develop a different study plan.     1     When creating your personalized (个性化的) study plan, you will need to do some self-evaluation of your current schedule and time management. Follow the step-by-step instructions below will help you.

Create a time chart of your current activities.

Creating a time chart will allow you to see how you spend your time from day to day. For a one-week period, take notes about your daily activities. Record things like when you are at work, school, or home with family.     2

Develop a schedule.

Now that you have determined available days and times for studying, make a mark in your calendar. Use detailed notes to block out (概略画出) times on your calendar so that you are reminded every time you look at it.     3     Seeing it written down can make it seem more important, like a doctor's appointment you can't miss.

Determine your study goals.

At the beginning of each week, determine why you need to study and what you plan to accomplish in each class. Do you want to raise your average in a particular class in order to maintain a certain GPA (平均分)?     4     For example, if you are studying for an important mid-term exam, change your study plan two weeks before the test to include reviews of old tests and notes in your sessions (课程).

    5

A study plan works best if it is followed on a consistent (一致的) basis. You should try to develop a study plan that you can follow for the length of each term of college. Since most students enroll in different classes each term, you will have to reevaluate your plan and fine- tune it each term.

A.Stick to your schedule.
B.Even note when you eat and sleep.
C.Are you preparing for a big exam?
D.There is no correct study plan for everyone.
E.It is best to have a schedule written down so you won't forget.
F.So be sure to analyze what you plan to get out of each study session.
