It was my first day at my new school, which dates back     1     a hundred years ago. On my way to school I was quite concerned about some questions     2     some boys would ask me and practiced all the answers. I might meet with a     3     (various) of troubles.

There were fifty boys in the class, so I didn’t stand out(突出)there until the first lesson of the afternoon. Mr. Jones, my teacher, first said to several boys, “Do you know Dickens’ birthplace?”

A boy whose name was Brian said, “Timbuktu” and Mr. Jones went red in the face.

Then he asked me. I said, “Portsmouth,” and everyone stared at me because Mr. Jones said I was right. This didn’t make me very popular, of course. But this     4     (affect) Brian to some degree.

“How did you get the answer? You think you are wise,” Brian said to me. I pretended     5     (hear) nothing.

China has named 24,126 primary and middle schools across the country as specialist football schools     1     (lead) youth football development, according to the Ministry of Education. It's required that at least one football class     2     (offer) each week in these schools so that they can encourage their students to     3     (active) participate in football training and matches.

Last month our school held a Reading Week, which aim was to encourage the students to read wide. During the week, book lovers recommended a plenty of good books which were suitable to high school students. In addition, two famous writers are invited to give lectures on how to understand and appreciate great work of literature. The poetry recitation contest was another amazed activity for the students to bring his talent into full play. All the contestants took turns read their favorite poems to the audience. We all find the Reading Week very beneficial. It has not only enriched our school life, and helped us form the habit of reading.

Our school was holding a charity fair(义卖),aiming at helping out those students in need.I brought a big toy with me,     1    was so cute that it was only two minutes before it was sold.The best-selling things,however,were books.Everyone seemed to have several books     2    (give) away; piles of books were put together and all disappeared fast.A student even stood up on a desk,using a teacher's speaker to make himself     3    (hear),but his voice was still drowned out by the beating of an Indian drum.We walked back and forth, knowing that we were helping to make a difference     4     students’ lives. An hour later, the sale was at an end with all of us wearing huge       5    (smile)on our faces.

From this fair, I understood why my grandpa     6    (tell)me to have respect and care for everyone when he was holding my small hand as a child and why my mom told me to put     7    one-yuan note into the beggar's bowl when my mom placed     8     into my hand. I feel it's every person's duty to fight not only for our dreams,but also to help people who are     9    (little) fortunate than we are.
