1 . Geoff Banks and Celesta Byrne met as part of an educational project to put British and American students in contact and they still keep in touch with each other.
Centenarians (百岁老人), Geoff Banks from Devon, Britain, and Celesta Byrne, from the US, started writing to each other at the age of 16 in 1938. The former engineer Geoff even kept in touch with Celesta during WWII. They, now, can talk to each other on the Internet.
They recently had their first call giving Geoff a break from putting pen to paper that he said he found difficult at his age. Despite having chatted for decades, the pair have only ever met twice-first in 2002 while Geoff visited New York at the age of 80, and then again two years later. Celesta was living in New Jersey at that time, and then she moved to live near family in Texas.
Geoff said, “I had worked abroad for a number of years but had not been to the US for some time. Celesta was in New Jersey, so we decided to meet up in New York for a short Christmas trip. We just talked about daily lives and our families. In one of my early letters, I sent her a copy of a British paper in 1953 which had Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation (加冕) on the front of it.”
Despite having such a special relationship, the pair deny there was ever any romance there. Both have been married, with Geoff’s wife having passed away in 2011. Geoff is now a great grandfather, having sadly survived his daughter but still having three sons scattered across the world and many more grandchildren.
They felt grateful to the educational project, which gave them the chance of being friends. They are friends, like people who live next door. They value their friendship and think it’s nice to hear friends’ voices.

As we all know, it is difficult to start a friendship but it is even more difficult to keep one. Recently I’ve understood it better for I experienced both the pain of the potential of losing a close friend and the joy of regaining one.
In primary school, I was just an ordinary student, shy and a little awkward. However, Jenny was outgoing, confident and helpful, which made her popular among classmates. One day, when I felt upset for failure in an important Maths test, Jenny came to my aid, cheering me up, and we talked a lot. Since then, a close friendship has grown between us and she has been like a sister to me. Up to now, we have been good friends for eight years. We’re always together, walking to school, doing homework or just hanging out on weekends. Everyone will feel surprised if we’re not seen playing together. But last Saturday, what she did really made me feel heartbroken.
We intended to see a new film at the cinema that day, but in the morning she called me, saying she had a bad cold and wanted to rest at home instead of going out for a film. “Never mind, ”I told her. "We can watch the film when you’re better. ”
However, a horrible surprise hit me on the next Monday. A classmate told me she had seen Jenny chatting with another girl in a cafe on Saturday afternoon. Why did she cheat me?I exploded with anger and ignored her during school all day, without responding to her online messages. Actually, this stressful situation made me confused and sleepless in the night.

Going back to school in September is always cool. Seeing old friends and making new friends are really exciting.
Rebecca was an old friend of Sheila, her classmate. Sheila liked playing football, and Rebecca had the same hobby.
There was a new girl in the classroom. Her name was Mary Brown. Unlike the others in the class, Mary was very quiet. She always sat by herself during lunch. At playtime, she didn't ask anyone to play with her, and no one asked her to play with them either. Rebecca was thinking about going over to talk to her, but that was when they would be able to join a football team in the youth league. Rebecca was so busy that Mary was soon forgotten.
The teacher gave out some homework. It was a composition. Rebecca decided to write a piece about Fiona, which is a cat, a Christmas gift from her dad. As a result, everyone liked Rebecca's composition.
At lunchtime of the third day, Rebecca was about to talk to Mary when Sheila stopped her with an angry look towards the table where the new girl was sitting by herself. Rebecca walked away feeling so embarrassed.
She told her parents what had happened at school. Rebecca said, "I want to talk to a new friend, but I don't want to lose my old ones." Her father thought for a moment and asked, "Rebecca, what do you think courage means?" Rebecca replied, "Isn't that when our soldiers go to war to fight for us?" Her dad said, "Well, yes. That is one kind of courage. But to do something that you are afraid to do is a different kind of courage."
Rebecca's mum reached over, holding her daughter's hand, and said, "If Sheila is really your friend, she will understand and still be your friend. Just do what you want to do."

9 . The Peer Education Project
The Peer Education Project is a school-based programme that aims to give young people the skills and knowledge they need to safeguard their mental health, and that of their peers (同龄人). By training older pupils to deliver mental health lessons to younger students, we intend to include the programme in the school course as a key source of support to young people experiencing mental health problem.
Why is peer education helpful?
·Young people always turn a deaf ear to adults and are more willing to listen to their schoolmates.
·Young people may feel more comfortable asking questions of their fellows.
·Peer-delivered programmes can provide accessible role-models and advisers.
·The Peer Education Project uses existing social networks to exercise influence and maintain the influence beyond the classroom.
What does the project teach?
·It introduces mental health as something that we all have, like physical health.
·It encourages students to think about ways to stay well, how to seek help and support friends.
·It introduces some common wrong opinions about mental health, and deals with the discrimination (歧视) against people with mental problems.
