文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了随着美国的学校增加冒险类课程教学,学生的受伤数量大幅上升,相关研究提出了一些理论来解释背后的原因。

1 . Is Adventurous Sports Teaching Good or Bad?

In recent years, adventurous sports such as bungee jumping have become increasingly popular. More and more people are taking these kinds of sports whatever the cost is. They say it is so exciting and enjoyable to take part in an adventure, which can relieve pressure or stress.

According to ED, some schools in the U.S. have also been urged to increase class teaching about adventures. And many have.     1     Injuries increased one hundred fifty percent between 1997 and 2007.

The study involved injuries treated in hospital emergency departments. Only two percent were serious.

The researchers did not try to identify the causes of the increase, but they have some theories. Lara McKenzie from Ohio State University was the lead researcher. She says one possibility is a decrease in the number of school nurses during the period they studied. For example, a study in 2004 showed that the number of school nurses nationally failed to meet federal guidelines.     2

Another possible reason for more injuries is a change in the traditional idea of adventure. Cheryl Richardson is with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. From her point of view, this “New adventure” expands the kinds of sports that are taught.     3     Also, she says not all states require relevant teachers to be specially trained. Untrained teachers could be less likely to recognize unsafe conditions. Cheryl Richardson points to one of the study’s findings — that injuries are often the result of contact with a person or a structure.

The researchers say larger class sizes are another possible reason for the increase in injuries.     4     The National Association for Sport says twenty to thirty students in such kind of class teaching should be the limit.

A.Classes on large scales can mean less supervision and cause potential injuries.
B.Yet now comes a study showing an increase in the number of injuries in “adventurous” class.
C.Generally speaking, untrained nurses could be more likely to be unemployed.
D.Adventurous sports help to relax students’ pressure and benefit their mental health.
E.But high-risk activities some schools offer now, like bungee jumping, can also expand the risks.
F.Schools without a nurse on duty may be more likely to send an injured child to a hospital.

2 . In the Pacific Northwest during winter, 5:15 a.m. might be the dead of night. The alarm goes off and the only light is the red glow from my clock. My body says, “Go back to bed.” But I don’t. I know my running partner will be waiting in the street and I’m not going to stand her up. Then I walk onto the road, complaining about the cold and wishing I were back under my warm covers.

If you asked me a year ago if I could see myself running at 5:15 on a winter morning, my answer would be surely no. Running in the morning was something I didn’t even consider. While my friends went to the gym before work, I preferred to work out in the middle of the morning or in the afternoon.

Then, last fall I met an old friend. She’d been running in the morning and lost forty pounds. When I looked in the mirror, I knew I could benefit from the same kind of weight loss. I asked if I could join her. I knew I needed to change something if I wanted to get back in shape.

The first two months was especially hard, because we ran twice a week at 5:15 a.m. and I slept till 7:00 the other mornings. But as I’ve adjusted to the morning run, I’ve discovered great joys that make it even more worthwhile than a little weight loss.

While I haven’t lost forty pounds yet, I fall in love with the morning run. It’s amazing that I have more energy and feel stronger. Because of the morning run, the rest of my day is more productive.

1. What can we know about the author from paragraph 1?
A.5:15 a.m. is the best time for her to exercise.
B.She prefers to run alone without any company.
C.She always goes running with many warm clothes on.
D.She goes for a run despite the cold and the need to rise early.
2. What was the author’s attitude to the morning run a year ago?
A.Uninterested.B.Scared.C.Confused.D.Supportive.
3. What made the author begin to run in the morning?
A.Her friend’s suggestion.B.Her partner’s encouragement.
C.Realizing the harm of being fat.D.Realizing the benefit of running.
4. What effect does the morning run have on the author?
A.She has become slim again.B.She has become more energetic.
C.She has become more confident.D.She has become a better runner.

3 . Staying fit is a great way to improve your mood and physical health. With some simple tricks, you can stay fit for years to come!

Start walking, jogging or cycling

No matter what your speed is, walking, jogging and cycling are very important part of a healthy lifestyle.    1    . Come up with a daily walking, jogging or cycling routine that fits with your schedule first. After a while you can increase your distance, speed and the length of your workout.

    2

For example, if you drive to the grocery store, try to park your car in a spot far away from the entrance so that you have to walk those extra steps to get there. If you live close enough to school, it will be a good idea to start walking.

Exercise in the classroom

Not everyone has the time or money to go to the gym and there is no need to.     3    . Some in-classroom exercises include:

Sit-ups. Sit-ups can be done by simply lying on the ground or with a chair or exercise ball.

Push-ups.     4    .

Join a school sports team

4 . Reasons Why Running Is the Easiest Exercise

Some people think that running is hard. I once thought that too.     1     Here’s why it is such an easy activity to start and stick to.

★It can be as easy or hard as you want.

Many people start running by going out and running as fast as they can for as long as they can. That is not so fun.     2     But easing into it is a different story. Start slowly and cover a short distance. Then gradually work your way up to it. In this way, running can be pain-free and actually wonderful.

    3

Classes at the gym are great but they always end up never working for me. With a busy life, I find it hard to take a class. On the other hand, with running, you just need to find the time whenever you can, here and there, and change it around.

★The gear (设备) is simple.

4     However, that’s really just about all you need. Expensive sport-specific clothes are available(可用的) but not required. If you fall in love with running, you may think you need some seasonal running clothes. Even so, that will be cheaper than bike gear.

★You can do it anywhere.

You can run in the city. You can run in the country. You can run on a track, in a park, on the street or even on the beach. You can run at home. You can run when you travel. And in fact, running around new cities when you’re traveling is great fun.     5

A.You can do it on your own schedule.
B.Choose some training classes at the gym.
C.It is important to have proper running shoes.
D.It might make you hurt or even cause injuries.
E.That is a wonderful way to get to know a place.
F.Starting at a running track is a great way to begin.
G.But if you work out properly, it is easy and wonderful.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了沙滩跑步的优缺点,并给沙滩跑步者提出了一些有用的建议和注意事项。

5 . The beach may seem like an inviting place to run on a cool summer morning, but is running on the sand good for your body? It can be, but it’s important to be aware of the challenges that some beach runners experience before you get ready.

Running on the beach can be a good thing. It’s certainly different from running on a track or a pavement. For starters, sand can be a challenge because it has an uneven(不平坦的) surface. As you push off, you’re going to lose some of your push as the sand moves. So, you’re not going to be able to push yourself forward as you would on a track or a pavement. But this unevenness has an upside: It gives your body an extra workout, forcing you to exercise muscles that don’t get as much use during runs on firm surfaces. For example, your feet, ankles and lower back might feel sorer and more tired than usual after a beach run just because the surface is constantly moving and changing step to step.

You also might feel sore afterward because beaches tend to slope (倾斜) down to the water. If you’re going for a long run on the beach, you might notice that one side of your body might feel sorer because you’re putting more pressure on it due to the slope.

Some beach runners prefer to run barefoot-- not wearing anything on feet. However, if you’re not used to barefoot running, start slowly and don’t run long distances at first. That’s because running barefoot uses more different muscles than running with shoes does, and it’s important to strengthen these muscles and adapt your feet. If you want to run barefoot and as long as you run carefully enough into it, go for it!

Running on the sand can be a smart choice for you, because running on softer ground surfaces can reduce muscle damage.

1. Why is it difficult to run on the beach for starters? ________
A.The soft surface makes people fall over easily.
B.It’s hard to keep one’s balance on its hard surface.
C.People need to run carefully on its smooth surface.
D.Running on its uneven surface takes much effort.
2. Which of the following best explains “upside” underlined in Paragraph 2? ________
A.Challenge.B.Advantage.C.Reason.D.Character.
3. What’s the author’s attitude to barefoot running? ________
A.Positive.B.Critical.C.Doubtful.D.Uncaring.
4. The passage can probably be found in ________.
A.a primary school textbookB.a tourist guide
C.a sports magazineD.a scientific report

6 . Do you want to live in a healthy lifestyle? Practicing yoga is one of the best choices. Yoga has a well-deserved fame for helping to improve balance and flexibility and for gaining calm and relaxation.     1    . Here’s more about how doing yoga is a complete body and mind workout.

Reducing Stress, Reducing Pounds

Several studies have confirmed that doing yoga does reduce cortisol (皮质醇) levels.    2    . It can also increase your desire for high-fat and high-sugar foods and drinks while reducing your muscle mass.

    3

In a 2016 study, participants involved in practicing yoga realized that they tended to notice not only the amount of food they ate, but what type of foods they ate and the impact of eating those foods as well. “Subjects are reported becoming aware of the effect of certain foods on their bodies during their yoga practice, including sugar, dairy, meat and alcohol,” wrote the authors of the study.

Making Weight Loss Last

4    . This can be attained through improvements in sadness tolerance, mindfulness and self-sympathy. For example, if someone experiences improvements in mindfulness, they may be less likely to ‘mindlessly’ eat in response to emotions such as boredom, stress, anger and other external stimulation like the presence of tasty foods.

Choosing the Right Type

Ultimately, the best yoga is the practice that fits you—the one you’ll commit to. There are now many accessible styles of yoga that meet you where you are no matter what your weight, age, physical challenge or background.     5    .

A.Finding the best food
B.Moving Well, Eating Well
C.Everybody and every body can benefit from a certain style
D.Yoga is also well-known for helping you burn more calories
E.High levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, can lead to an increase in fat
F.Another study shows that someone in a more positive mood are less likely to overeat
G.Recent research shows that yoga may help to improve long-term weight loss outcomes

7 . At an age where many of his contemporaries are winding down, Jo Schoonbroodt is somehow speeding up. On Sunday, the 71-year-old from the Netherlands, ran a marathon in 2hr 54min 19sec to become the fastest septuagenarian (70-90 年龄组) in history.

A few days later, when the Times catches up with him, his achievement is still sinking in. “I only started jogging at 36 because my doctor told me I had high cholesterol (胆固醇),” he says. “But last year I ran 7,242 kilometres, which is more than double what I did in my car.”

But the secrets of his success might surprise you。 “Most runners train too hard. I do a lot of my training with groups who run very slowly. And then I build on these basics with some faster interval training.”

Schoonbroodt often runs at 9-or 10-minute mile pace, far slower than the 6.38min / mile he ran for 26.2 miles to set his world record, but he says the crucial thing is that he listens to his body. “A lot of people follow a training plan or coach and push on even when their body is saying: ‘No, this is not a good day to do it.’ But if you go out the door and just do what you feel, it’s easier to keep running and stay injury-free.”

Being a late bloomer (大器晚成), he believes, has actually helped him because his ego (自我意识) never had to worry about chasing faster times of his youth. “Because I started so late, I missed my best years. But that’s no problem. Everything is still new to me.”

Schoonbroodt, meanwhile, has no plans to put his feet up. “My next marathon is in two and a half weeks, on an old Roman road built 2,000 years ago,” he says, the excitement obvious. It will be his third in 2023. And with that he is off. After all, the quest (追求) for another sub-three-hour marathon waits for no man. Not even one who is 71.

1. What message does Schoonbrodt’s story carry?
A.It is never too late to run.B.More haste, less speed.
C.Time waits for no man.D.An earlier bird catches the worm.
2. What is the secret behind Schoonbrodt’s success?
A.He competed with slower runners.
B.He made full use of the intervals.
C.He trained in line with his condition.
D.He ran faster in the races than in trainings.
3. Why is being a late bloomer helpful to Schoonbrodt?
A.He can draw lessons from other runners.
B.He has no youthful success to think back to.
C.He can equip himself with new running skills.
D.He has a strong desire to make up for the lost time.
4. How does Schoonbrodt talk about his next marathon?
A.He is unsure of winning it.B.He is eager to participate in it.
C.He has no plan to enter for it.D.He will not run it in three hours.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章认为应该让儿童参与多种体育运动,因为这样可以避免单一运动造成的损伤和无趣,帮助孩子培养多项身体能力并助力全面发展,并引导孩子发现自己真正的兴趣所在。

8 . Sports play a key role in the physical and mental development of children. Although it’s great to see a child succeed in one sport, it’s important to keep their activities in balance. Participation in multiple sports enables children to acquire a knowledge of many movement skills. In addition to this, here are some other good reasons why kids should be encouraged to play several sorts of sports.

Repetitive movements can overstress growing bodies which later on can lead to injuries. With multi-sports, each sport works the body slightly differently. This will lead to fewer overuse injuries. Also, kids who overspecialize in one sport may end up losing interest and eventually give up. Specializing in a sport raises expectations and may put too much pressure on young kids. Having a variety of experiences will keep children interested and motivated, and even make them enjoy sports without any pressure.

Multi-sports also allow kids to experience different roles. Being a goalkeeper in a football team is very different from being a point guard in basketball. Being exposed to baseball develops better hand-eye coordination (协调). Soccer develops better footwork (步法). Volleyball develops jumping and hand-eye coordination. Martial arts develop strength, mobility, and discipline. Swimming develops full-body coordination and strength. The list goes on and on! Participation in multiple sports broadens a child’s developmental social, and situational experience. It opens up opportunities to become a better competitor and a promising athlete — flexible and energetic.

Many sports superstars like Stephen Curry achieved their standing today by playing multiple sports. Curry played basketball but he also played baseball, football, soccer, and everything else in a sports buffet. What worked for Curry, experts say, could work for most of us.

Besides developing a wide range of sports skills, more importantly, multi-sports provide opportunities for children to discover their liking. With the help of the right coaches, sports become fun, inspiring kids’ interests. So if you can’t decide whether your child should focus on one sport or try some different sports, I hope you can make a better decision now.

1. What will happen to kids if they do one sport repeatedly?
A.They can stay more focused.
B.They can spare more time to study.
C.They can be skilled at the sport early.
D.They can be more likely to get injured.
2. What’s implied about multi-sports in Paragraph 3?
A.They inspire kids’ sporting spirit.
B.They help kids develop their special talents.
C.They have much higher requirements for kids.
D.They help promote kids’ all-round development.
3. What does the author want to express in the last paragraph?
A.Multi-sports help kids find their favorite sports.
B.Sports skills make kids more popular at school.
C.Parents should lower their expectations for kids.
D.Children should turn their interests into professions.
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.How sports benefit kids.
B.What sports children should try.
C.Why kids should try multi-sports.
D.Why multi-sports are popular today.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了一些瑜伽如何帮助控制愤怒的方法。

9 . Many of us feel anger throughout the course of our daily lives.    1     If you find yourself getting angry often, yoga can help you to manage the feeling while you are at work or at home. It can help both calm you down when you feel angry and manage anger in the long term.

Develop a regular practice. Practicing yoga regularly will go a long way toward helping you manage your anger. Try to go to class or practice a routine at least three times a week. Practice for an hour to an hour and a half when possible.    2

Join a class if you are a beginner. Sometimes it can be helpful for beginners to practice yoga with others to know the types of routines they can try.    3     However, if you have a competitive personality, practicing in a group might be bad for your efforts.

4     Focus on the breath is the central part of yoga practice. It is necessary to focus on your breath to get the most out of the yoga poses you are trying. Take your time, and continue the exercise until you feel calmer.

Keep yoga journals. Keeping a yoga journal allows you to see over time how yoga is affecting your anger. It can also be a place to show the pleasure and frustrations (挫折) of yoga after your regular practice.    5

10 . Is “plogging” the most fitness trend yet? They brought us hygge, lagom and fika, but now a new Scandinavian trend is coming, and it couldn’t be more fitness.

Hailing from Sweden, “plogging” is a fitness craze that sees participants pick up plastic litter while jogging — adding a virtuous, environmentally driven element to the sport.

Plogging appears to have started around 2016, but is now going global, due to increasing awareness and fear over plastic levels in the ocean.

The appeal of plogging is its simplicity, and the feeling of getting fit while supporting a good cause. By adding regular squats and carrying weight to jogging, we can assume the health benefits are increased.

Running and good causes have always gone hand in hand — just think of all the fundraising marathon runners do. But there couldn’t be a more on-trend way of keeping fit than plogging.

“Anything that’s getting people out in nature and connecting positively with their environment is a good thing,” says Lizzie Carr, an environmentalist who helped set up Plastic Patrol, a nationwide campaign to rid our inland waterways of plastic pollution. “There’s been a real shift in the public mindset around plastics, helped by things like Blue Planet high lighting how catastrophic the crisis is,” she says. “We need to keep momentum high and the pressure up, and empower people through initiatives like plogging and Plastic Patrol.”

The Plastic Patrol app allows users to map plastic anywhere in the world by collecting discarded items, photographing them and uploading to the app, giving us a better knowledge of what sorts of plastic and which brands are being thrown out. “I’d urge all ploggers to get involved,” adds Carr. As we can see, plogging has become a new fashion in 2018. However, plogging isn’t the first fitness trend to combine running with a good cause.

1. What does the underlined word “discarded” mean?
A.Useless.B.Abandoned.
C.Exposed.D.Distinct.
2. Carr helped set up Plastic Patrol, a nationwide campaign, in order to ________.
A.raise public awareness of pollution
B.shift the public mindset around plastics
C.connect positively with their environment
D.make our inland waterways free of plastic pollution
3. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Plogging is the best way to keep fit.
B.Plogging is an environmentally friendly way of fitness.
C.Running with good causes can make a great difference.
D.The Plastic Patrol app is an effective way to help you run.
4. What will the author continue to write?
A.Other new fashions in 2018.
B.The first healthy trends in sports.
C.Other fitness ways of running with a good cause.
D.The first healthy running trend with a good cause.
