4 . Here are two exciting movies to come in 2022 and they are listed as the most expected by IMDb, one of the world’s most popular and authoritative sources for movies. Highly recommended!
Jurassic World: Dominion
Being extinct for thousands of years, dinosaurs often fascinate us and fuel our imagination. That’s why the Jurassic World series is so popular around the world. In June, this latest film will hit the big screen.
Unlike the first two films which are set on an island or a single mainland location, this time dinosaurs live everywhere on Earth. For example, they wander in different environments: the wilderness, cities, desert, snow. But that means they will encounter human beings. Can they live peacefully with human beings? Apart from the interesting plot, its director Colin Trevorrow said that an all-new raptor, Atrociraptors, would be added to the film.
The Batman
Batman is a classic superhero in DC Comics. Since his first appearance in 1939 in Detective Comics, several film adaptations have shown how Wayne fights crimes bravely and beautifully. But the latest movie to be released in March will give a closer examination into the early years of Batman. Not yet the greatest detective, Bruce Wayne must use all his strength and skills against evil. But even so, sometimes, he can make mistakes. With the dual role as a crime-fighter and an ordinary citizen in Gotham City, he often struggles to balance his violent anger with justice. 5 . When you watch your favorite movies, you might not think about science. Of course, there’s a lot of science behind movies like Interstellar or The Martian but not movies like Frozen or The Avengers, right?
Animated(动画片)movies use a lot of science and math to make things look as real as possible. For example, snow was used in many parts of the movie Frozen, but making the snow look real was a challenge. The snow needed to act differently in different situations, as if it were melting or blowing in the wind.
Science is important for superhero movies, too. Superheroes are supposed to have special powers that can’t always be explained.
So next time you see a movie, don’t forget to think about the science behind it.

6 . The opening sequences (片头) of television series are usually significant. They need to show great honor to the stars and make an introduction for the episode to follow. Above all, they must persuade the viewers to be interested in the show for the next 30 minutes or more. Take, for example, Game of Thrones, which no one doubted was a masterpiece when watching the amazing pictures at the start of each episode in 2011. For long, networks thought it was worthwhile to create complex and costly opening sequences.
However, it was Girls, which had its first show in April 2012, that took an absolutely different opening approach. With a sequence of a single title card on screen lasting only seven seconds, Lena Dunham’s (the director and leading actress) comedy thumbed its nose at the industry’s usual luxurious (奢华的) opening.
With the rise of streaming (流媒体) services, viewers started watching several episodes without a break, and the brief opening gained additional praise. In 2017 Netflix started its “jump introduction” function, enabling viewers to cut out opening parts and get straight to the drama. Most viewers were happy that they no longer had to press fast-forward, but others saw it as a disrespect to the art of television.
Indeed, maybe opening sequences are no longer necessary. But if they become a history, the desire for something more creative and mysterious may reappear one day. When they are done well, they can be as appealing as short films.
1. What’s the main function of opening sequences?A.Showing great honor to the audience. | B.Making the episodes complex and costly. |
C.Interesting viewers to watch each episode. | D.Giving a summary of the previous episode. |
A.Respected. | B.Smelt. | C.Challenged. | D.Praised. |
A.Opening sequences will never disappear. | B.People have a desire for historical things. |
C.Opening sequences can be made into short films. | D.Opening sequences will be continuously improved. |
7 . When Owen Vaccaro, star of The House with a Clock in Its Walls, thinks about the start of his acting career (事业), he thinks about his first-grade teacher and his dislike of sports and other activities that many children enjoy.
“She knew we had tried every single sport and activity for me,” the 13-year-old actor said about his teacher. “Nothing really worked. So she said we should try out a theater company called MZ Stageworks. I went into it with really low hopes. I didn’t think I was going to like it any more than I had liked anything else.”
Now an eighth-grader, Owen still remembers the excitement of discovering those early theater classes in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. “I loved it and couldn’t wait until the next class.”
Soon, the theater classes led to his first auditions (试镜), which finally landed him his first film part, A Product of Me, six years ago. In the years since, Owen has been in eight more movies.
In The House with a Clock in Its Walls, an adaptation (改编) of a 1973 children’ s book by John Bellairs, Owen plays Lewis Barnavelt, the lead character. After losing his parents, Lewis is sent to live with his uncle Jonathan (Jack Black). Lewis quickly discovers that Jonathan and his best friend and neighbor, Mrs. Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett), actually have magic powers, and there’s something strange going on in Lewis s new house.
“It’s a film about amazing powers and family and fighting evil (邪恶) with the people you love,”' Owen said. “It is a starter horror (恐怖) movie for teens and older.”
Working with Black and Blanchett, who are both parents, “was marvelous,” Owen said. He even got to know their families. “I love them. Cate brought her kids to set. One of them, Iggy, and I would play games together,” he said. “And as for Jack, I went to Six Flags with his kids, and it was a ton of fun.”

Learning from films is motivating and enjoyable.
Motivation is one of the most important factors in learning second-language, while films are an important part of students’ entertaining lives.
Students can use examples of English from films in real situations outside the classroom. Films expose students to natural expressions and the natural flow of speech. If not living in an English-speaking environment, perhaps only films can provide learners with this real-life language input.
Films give a visual context.
The visuality of films makes them an invaluable language teaching tool. They enable students to understand more by transforming the language in a full visual context. Students can listen to language exchanges and see facial expressions and gestures at the same time.
Films bring about variety and flexibility.
Films can extend the range of teaching techniques and resources, helping students to develop all four communicative skills.
