I'm crazy about running. Sometimes the pain of running can have a magic influence on a runner. Throughout any given race, you are suffering. Your lungs feel like they're being squeezed (挤压) by something unseen. But it is in this pain that a great runner is created.
My first cross-country coach told me that every race is run with patience and determination. I've carried this advice with me for hundreds of miles. I especially remember the 5 miles of running in one race, where his words encouraged me a lot.
That day the weather was perfect. I and dozens of runners gathered at the starting line to do some last-minute preparations for the running. Then, we lined up and got ready to start. There was a brief moment before the gun gave a signal of running. In that moment of great stress, I determined to push myself to run as fast as possible, hoping to make my coach proud, who was waiting for me at the finish line. When the sound of "Bang" came up, we were off.
Running between runners, I managed to work my way up in the first 400 meters and passed many racers on my sides. But out of good sportsmanship, we each said a "good job" or "keep up" to every person we passed. Although we were competitors, running was a connection we all shared.
The first mile passed quickly in a feeling of excitement. It was not challenging in the beginning of the running. But I knew it would be harder and harder in the following miles. I made full use of the running skills that my coach had taught me. I checked that I was doing everything right, breathing in through my nose, keeping my hands relaxed and pumping (快速摆动) my arms. However, the shadow of tiredness danced before me. Anyway I tried to push it out of my mind.
With time going by, the competition became fiercer. Every runner tried their best to run in order to gain a good place in the race. Audience along the track shouted and cheered us.

4 . An Olympic Village is a place that houses Olympic competitors. It is a place where they prepare for what might be the most important moment in their life. But we want to know more about this mysterious place: What really happens in the village?
We asked swimmer Natalie Coughlin, a three time Olympian and 12 -time medalist. She says, “People think it’s a lot more attractive and interesting than it is. It isn’t. It’s like a huge college campus, including a bank, a salon, a post office, and a huge cafeteria- except that everyone is anxious, getting ready for their biggest event under unbelievably high pressure (压力).”
But some other Olympians look differently at their campus. “It’s like the first day of college,” water polo player Tony Azevedo says. “You’re super excited. Everyone s meeting people and trying to socialize with others,”
Coughlin says the best spot to be in the village is the cafeteria. Not only does it provide a place to talk with the rest of the athletes from your country but it’s a great chance for people watching. One of her favorite games was to tell what sport someone in front of her took based on their body type.
Living in the same village means athletes run into one another all the time. Coughlin shares this story: While in London in 2012, at one point applause (欢呼) broke out at the arrival of someone. Coughlin thought it was one of the British royals (王室成员), but it ended up being Jamaica’s Usain Bolt (the world’s greatest runner alive). Runner Allyson Felix— a winner of six gold Olympic medals— has also had her run-ins. In 2008, she came across the world-famous U. S. men’s basketball team, including Anthony, Bryant, Wade and other top players.
It’s “a pretty wild scene, the biggest melting pot— a place where large numbers of people, ideas, and cultures are mixed together— you’ve been in,” said swimmer Eric Shanteau. Felix agrees, saying, “You get to meet people from other countries that you wouldn’t even come into contact with. To me that’s the coolest thing.

5 . A hundred days out from the opening ceremony, Beijing, which previously hosted the Summer Paralympics in 2008, is to stage another Games with even higher standards of inclusiveness, accessibility and equality when the Winter Paralympics open on March 4.
Preparatory work for the 10-day Paralympics has shifted from facility readiness to operational tests. After hosting a series of international test events, organizers are now busy fine tuning (微调) operational details and services to offer Paralympians better experiences based on feedback from the trials.
The aquatics center, nicknamed the “water cube", has been repurposed into an “ice cube” for curling after the completion of an innovative project to fill the pool with removable steel structures topped with sheets of ice.
The transformed venue (地 点) withstood intensive tests on the stability of the ice surface, delicate control of temperature and humidity, accessibility and COVID-19 protocols (协议) during the wheelchair curling event to make sure it was up to international standards, the team operating the venue said.
“The test event went quite successfully and shed light on the improvements that we need to make in the next step," said Yang Qiyong, general manager of the venue. World Curling Federation president Kate Caithness heaped praise on the venue's readiness after an inspection visit for the test event last month.
With preparations for the Paralympics gaining momentum as they enter the final stretch, Chinese organizers and sports promoters have set their sights on maximizing the event's impact on leveling the playing field so that more disabled sports lovers get involved in exercise on ice and snow, while raising awareness of the need for equal access to training facilities, especially in winter sports, beyond 2022.
