文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了接触大自然的好处:促进身心健康。

1 . Humans have long known that being in nature is good for the mind and body. From indigenous (本土的) adolescents completing the adult ceremony in the wild to modern East Asian cultures taking “forest baths”, many have looked to nature as a place for healing and personal growth. But the question still remains. How can nature make it?

There is no doubt that being in nature reduces the physiological symptoms of stress in our bodies. What this means is that we are less likely to be anxious and fearful in nature, and therefore we can be more open to other people and creative patterns of thought. Also, nature often leads to awe, wonder and respect, all these emotions facilitating everything from physical to mental health. There is also some evidence that exposure to nature impacts the brain. Viewing natural beauty makes specific reward circuits in the brain associated with dopamine release, a chemical that gives us a sense of purpose, joy and energy to pursue our goals.

But, regrettably, people seem to be spending less time outdoors and less time in nature than before. It is also clear that, in the past 30 years, people’s levels of stress and sense of “busyness” have risen dramatically. These joint forces have led environmental writer Richard Louv to coin the term “Nature Deficit Disorder”—a form of suffering that comes from a sense of disconnection from nature and its powers.

Perhaps we should take note and try a course corrective. The 19th century philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote about nature, “There I feel that nothing can befall me in life—no disgrace, no calamity.” The science speaks to Emerson’s intuition. It’s time to realize that nature is more than just a material resource. It’s also a pathway to human health and happiness.

1. Why are “indigenous adolescents” and “modern East Asian cultures” mentioned in paragraph 1?
A.To clarify a viewpoint.B.To answer the question below.
C.To present the natural scenery.D.To show the cultural differences.
2. What does the underlined word “facilitating” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Restricting.B.Exposing.C.Promoting.D.Covering.

4. What can be the best title for the text?
A.Is It Time to Challenge Yourself in Nature?

3 . The activities and services that England’s libraries offer are worth £ 3.4 billion a year, says a report by the University of East Anglia. The study found that projects run by libraries — such as improving children’s reading skills — provide valuable benefits to society.

The exact value of libraries is impossible to calculate, but the report’s authors developed a way to work out the financial worth of the activities they provide. The team looked at how much other organisations charge for similar services, for example, and the impact that library services had on people’s lives. Libraries are often run by volunteers and don’t charge people for many of their services.

The report put a value on library services, including helping people to secure jobs (worth £379 per person) and improving their reading (£279 per person). Other services on offer included free yoga classes and teaching older people how to use computers. The researchers also found that people visit libraries to help themselves feel less lonely.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, library use fell because people stayed at home. However, by the end of last year library use was very high. The charity that wrote the report, Libraries Connected, warned that many libraries in Wales, Northern Ireland and England will have to make cuts to services because they aren’t being given enough money by local authorities. Isobel Hunter, the head of Libraries Connected, hopes the report will change how local authorities think about libraries. She said, “The evidence is clear: investing in libraries brings huge returns for local communities and the public purse.”

Although the report focused on libraries in England, the authors say that it could also be useful for libraries in the rest of the UK. In Scotland this month, nine libraries have set up “lend and mend hubs”, where people can learn how to repair items to save money. Meanwhile, the Welsh government has recently announced £ 1.7 million in funding to restore libraries and museums.

1. What can we learn about the libraries from the text?
A.They aim to help the homeless.B.They offer services to community.
C.They can be measured by money.D.They are always run by volunteers.
2. What may Isobel Hunter’s words imply in paragraph 4?
A.Libraries in Wales are closing down.
B.Investing in libraries is a wise choice.
C.The local government suffers from a financial problem.
D.Libraries in England have been ignored for a long time.
3. Why has “lend and mend hubs” been set up?
A.To cut the cost for the libraries.B.To help people socialize.
C.To repair items for the locals.D.To teach people to save money.
4. What is the suitable title for the text?
A.The Report May Bring Libraries to LifeB.The Report Focuses on Library Service
C.Libraries Are Home to ActivitiesD.Libraries Are Valuable in Our Life

文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章主要说明了乔治亚娜的播客因为报道了她所在社区的一个重大事件“杰克逊的水危机”而获奖,文章介绍了起因经过。

4 . Georgianna McKenny’s award-winning podcast (播客) begins with a blaring alarm. It’s an alarm clock, waking her 17-year-old cousin, Mariah. Back in January, living in Jackson meant waking up without access to clean water. No showers, no drinkable water out of the tap, and, for a few days, no school.

Georgianna is the newly-announced high-school winner of NPR’s fifth-annual Student Podcast Challenge. In a year with more than 3,300 entries from middle and high schoolers in 48 states, her winning entry tells the story of the toll that Jackson’s water crisis has taken on the city’s students.

Georgianna struggled, at first, to settle on a subject. Then she mentioned the water crisis, which has troubled Jackson for years, while texting with a friend from another state. “She lives in Georgia,” Georgianna remembers. “I texted her, and she was like, ‘What is that?’ Like, she didn’t know about it. I was really shocked.”

Once she settled on the Jackson water crisis, and specifically, on her cousin Mariah’s experience of it, Georgianna had something just as powerful as experience. She had purpose. “No water comes from the tap.” Georgianna’s podcast is about a few tough days in January, when low water pressure across the city hit families and schools hard.

“Something so simple as using the bathroom has become difficult,” Georgianna says. “They ended up shutting down some of the bathrooms because the toilets could no longer be flushed (冲洗),” says Mariah. The school administrator told Georgianna, the water problems even affected what students were given to eat. If there was enough water, the cafeteria could prepare full, hot meals. If not-sack lunches. Mariah, Georgianna’s cousin, was not a fan. “Imagine getting turkey and ham-and-cheese sandwiches for seven days straight. It felt like we were in prison.

NPR judges loved Georgianna’s entry because she took on a major story in her community, conducted in-depth interviews and made excellent use of sound. Now, in winning NPR’s Student Podcast Challenge, Georgianna Mc Kenny is getting exactly what she wanted: A platform to sound the alarm on behalf of the kids of Jackson.

1. What does the underlined word “toll” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Benefit.B.Potential.C.Influence.D.Change.
2. What inspired Georgianna to talk about water crisis in her podcast?

C.She edited the podcast together with Georgianna.
D.She was really shocked to know the water crisis in Jackson.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍网络技术的发展导致刷剧现象的出现。文章分析了此类现象出现的原因和影响,提出了解决这一问题的方法。

6 . Binge-watching (刷剧) is when a person watches more than one episode of a TV show one after another. With developments in the speed and connectivity of the Internet, increases in technology and the rise of on-demand entertainment companies, people can now watch their favorite shows directly on the Internet at their convenience.

This behavior is nothing new. In fact, “binge-watching” has been officially listed in dictionaries since 2015. The entertainment companies recognize this behavior and many take steps to encourage it. Often, instead of releasing each episode on a week-by-week basis, an entire series will become available at the same time. Once the episode finishes, many platforms will display pop-ups with “you might like” suggestions, or will automatically play the next episode.

However, this wonderful gift may in fact be poisonous. Recent research from British media Ofcom suggests that this behavior may have become a hindrance(障碍). Out of the more than half of British adults who watch more than one episode of a show in a row, almost a third have admitted missing sleep or becoming tired as a result; and one quarter have failed to do their household chores. Next we’ll be missing work!

Bingeing has other connections — binge eating, binge drinking and binge smoking. All of which are often associated with compulsive (强迫性的) behavior, a lack of control and a possible route to addiction. Lindsey Fussell, consumer group director at Ofcom, said: “The days of waiting a week for the next episode are largely gone, with people finding it hard to resist watching multiple episodes around the house or on the move.” If people find binge-watching hard to resist, coupled with the fact that it has shown to lead to negligence (疏忽) in many, are we witnessing the birth of a new type of addiction?

The large number of information and entertainment that television and online media can bring us is, many would say, a good thing. It offers us opportunities to better understand the world we live in, educate ourselves and enjoy much needed downtime. However, like any behavior done to an extreme degree, it can become dangerous. And when the activity begins to bleed into other areas, causing us to stop functioning-then it becomes a problem. So, what’s the answer? Neither a tiny amount, nor too much. After all, as the old proverb says, a little of what you fancy does you good.

1. What effects can binge-watching bring about if you have formed the habit?
A.Positive.B.Negative.C.Neutral.D.Unclear.
2. What causes the action of bingeing?
A.Watching too much.B.Being too careless.
C.Too many TV shows.D.Uncontrollable behavior.
3. How do people quit binge-watching?
A.By educating ourselves.B.By doing something good.
C.By watching neither too less nor too much.D.By better understanding the world we live in.

7 . Dressed in long robes, a crowd of young people wanders around royal gardens, with their flowing sleeves and heavily embroidered (绣花的) skirts gently swaying in the breeze. They are not actors on a movie set, but hanfu enthusiasts at a themed event in Beijing.

Benefiting from the growing popularity of social media and a craze for traditional culture, hanfu, a traditional style of clothing once worn by the Han people, has enjoyed a new life thanks to a new wave of young Chinese fans.

A 1980s-born rocket scientist Liu is also a cofounder of a hanfu community in Beijing called Hua Yan Hui. The community was founded in 2011 following a hanfu revival(复兴)movement that emerged from the desire to express national identity and growing cultural confidence. Since then, Liu has been volunteering to support the group.

At first, people who wore hanfu in public were occasionally greeted with mockery, while more passersby asked about their clothing style. “More young people are taking to wearing adapted hanfu as they believe the best way to preserve tradition is to adapt it to modern life,” says Liu.

Yang Kunning was born in the 1990s and works in public relations. She is fond of sharing her love for hanfu online. She opened an account on the video-sharing platform Bilibili and posted videos featuring herself wearing the traditional attire. Thousands of comments and likes pour into her channel as viewers find her videos attractive and creative — blending traditional culture with modern dance movements. “Social media has made hanfu culture popular in China and abroad,” says Yang. “Traditional culture has no national or ethnic boundaries.”

Companies and factories also smell the massive potential in hanfu-related industries. Caoxian County, Heze City, East China’s Shandong Province, is one of the major hanfu manufacturing centers, gathering over 2,000 enterprises and promoting the increase of employment. Over 600 clothes-processing companies have their own designs with intellectual property rights. In addition to domestic clients, a number of companies in Caoxian reported arise in foreign orders this year.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。本文主要讲述了自动驾驶技术在公共健康方面的影响以及对就业的威胁。

10 . Self-driving technology is expected to have a great effect on public health and reduce the 1.25 million deaths every year on global roads. At the same time, this new technology is a threat to the employment of the millions who are paid to sit behind the wheel — from truck drivers to cab drivers and delivery workers.

Baidu chief scientist Andrew Ng, an expert in the world of artificial intelligence, acknowledges the unemployment concerns, but he sees a way forward that offers society the benefits of autonomous vehicles and blunts the negative (消极的) effects of job losses.

Baidu plans to have commercial self-driving cars on the road in 2018. “I feel a strong moral responsibility to try to make self-driving cars a reality as quickly as possible,” Ng said in a visit to The Washington Post. At Baidu, a Chinese tech company where Ng is developing self-driving technology, the number 3,000 has become a rallying call (号召), representing the number of humans killed every day on roads. For Ng self-driving cars are a good example of the benefits of what he calls the golden age of artificial intelligence.

But for humans who could lose their jobs in this golden age, governments could offer a solution. “We as a society have a responsibility to help those whose jobs are displaced by this value — creating artificial intelligence,” Ng said. “I think everyone in this country has a right to the chance of having a great life.”

He is an advocate for basic income, in which governments pay citizens a nominal (象征性的) amount to guarantee a basic standard of living. Several Northern European countries are planning basic income experiments. Ng also suggests an adjustment to basic income — paying the unemployed to study online and prepare for a new career.

1. Once self-driving cars are available, drivers and delivery workers may ________.

C.work for BaiduD.get basic income
2. What does the underlined word “blunts” mean in Paragraph 2?
