My 5-year-old daughter, Alice, likes painting very much. I think she might be a great artist someday.
Last Sunday, I taught her to paint at home. She was very happy when she put her brush into the paint quickly, and then into a bowl of water. Soon most of the paint on the brush just disappeared in the water. I got angry and shouted, “What are you doing? This is not what you are supposed to do!”
But she was so excited that she still did what she liked. She had so much fun painting in her own way. Soon, the paint was everywhere and the room became very dirty. I just sat there, thinking, “Oh, my God! This girl is hopeless.” Soon after, she shouted, “Mum, when I mix pink and blue, the water turns purple(紫色)!”
I was surprised. I thought that she was just wasting the paint and the paper, but she actually got something new! I laughed and thought she made that just by chance.
Suddenly, I got another idea—maybe I could teach her something about colors. So I began to work on my computer. Seeing this, she got happier and wanted to try it by herself. She started to mess with buttons(胡乱摆弄按钮), and I almost got mad.
But at that time, she found something new once again! She just told me, “I pressed(按)this, and I pressed that, and then this happened.” How could I imagine that I would end up learning things from a kid!
All of a sudden, I realised that kids could understand more through practices or games. They have a different way of learning things. So never judge(判断)whether they’re right or wrong so quickly!
