Over the last few years, my family and I have been working towards a greener life. My mum and dad ________ less and often take a bus to work. In Cixi, Zhejiang province, every family was enjoying the May Day holiday. A middle-aged man put down his chopsticks and went out with a tool bag, leaving his wife at home. He is Qian Haijun who was honored the title of “Model of the Times” on May 6th 2022.

Qian Haijun is a worker who deals with electric problems. In the past 23 years, he has spent all his spare time in helping a number of families with electric problems. Qian Haijun has made 500 cards with his name and telephone number and handed them out so that people would know who to call when a problem comes. He answers every call at any time and values them very much. People often say he not only lights up the rooms, but also lights up their hearts. He also pays much attention to the group of elderly people over 60 who live on their own. He realizes that the elderly need companionship (陪伴) more than anything else. Over the past few years, he has become the “good son” of more than 100 elderly people.

His stories were made into a mini movie, and even the Ningbo and Cixi Volunteer Service Centres are named after him. Under his leadership, more than 1200 volunteers have joined the project for the disabled, covering places like Zhejiang, Tibet, Guizhou and Sichuan. And they have provided help more than 30000 times.

“I am a common person, I will never think about stopping offering help to people in need, and I will try my best to bring beauty to the world”, he said.

I can’t remember whether I was nine or ten years old. I remember that it was the last day of my 4-H camp. I was looking in the mirror and checking my face for bruises (瘀伤). The day before, for some silly reason, I had a fight with another boy. My head was still sore. We hadn’t talked since the fight, but only stared (盯) coldly at each other.

Still, I was in a good mood (心情) in the morning because I knew my mom was bringing some of her homemade pizzas as a treat for my brother, me, and our friends. Soon, I saw her walking towards our room. She had been bringing these pizzas to us every 4-H camp for years. I saw her smile as my brother and his friends all picked up the big pieces. She saved the last two pieces for me. I thanked her with a smile and started to eat when I saw that boy standing off to the side by himself. At that moment, something moved my heart. I walked over to him and gave him one of the pieces. We talked, laughed and ate. And for some reason that I didn’t understand at the time, the pizza tasted better than ever before.

I can see now what moved my heart: A little miracle (奇迹) was working inside me. It was moving me to forgive (原谅), to give, and to love. And I’m so happy that I followed that guidance.
